- Today, I have the privilege of conducting a brief interview with one of the miners who worked in the depths of this mine. Through this conversation, we will gain insight into the daily lives of these hardworking individuals who risked their lives each day in our coal mines. Regrettably, my time with the miner was limited due to his health condition, and I am aware that this topic is sensitive for some viewers.
Parkside Colliery was a coal mine located in Newton-le-Willows St Helens, Parkside was in operation from 1974 until its closure in 1993. Parkside Colliery was the most modern and safest coal Pitt to be built in the Lancashire Coalfield.

These men kept our lights on and our homes warm.
Deep respect.
So sad to hear he past away may he rest in peace🙏
Hi guys, just to inform you, unfortunately, Roy Dysart, who I'm interviewing in this video, has recently passed away. As you can see in this video, he wasn't well. His health continued to decline following this video. Unfortunately, there was nothing more anyone could do for him. Roy rest in peace, sir, and thank you for all you have done.
❤
An Industrial Hero.
@albin2232 Absolutely,
My dad worked at parkside,plank lane and bikershawe
One of our unsung heroes
@Beel251 You're absolutely correct.
These man are heroes. In an ideal world they should have long healthy retirements after serving the country and keeping the lights on. Unfortunately, for many, it's not to be.
Yes, I agree with you. Unfortunately, Roy is extremely I'll, and there's not much that can be done. The miners are definitely our unsung heroes, and they should have been treated much better after the mines closed. It destroyed many lives, and to this day, it still has a powerful impact.
What lovely man who dug coal for us all too keep warm and the lights on 👍🏻 Well done 👏🏻
Thank you very much
Very interesting thanks James and Roy for this interview
I really enjoyed watching your video and talking to the old miner
Thank you Roy also says thank you for what you did to help those struggling through the strikes

Thank you, mate. I really appreciate your honest feedback, I'm not going to stop doing these videos, not a chance.
Roy seems a lovely gentleman, it must of been horrible having to do that I know I couldn't.
Hi, yes Roy is a really nice guy, unfortunately his health has suffered considerably as a result of working in such conditions.
True heroes
Absolutely
Coal mining should have been phased out during the 1960s.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts on this. Roy is now at home recovering.
@@exploringwithjb Stalinist Scargill destroyed the NUM by starting a fight he could not win.
@@JamesRichards-mj9kw Absolutely correct
Vertical shaft or mine entry making Is a tedious job. It takes 2or 4 y to make a underground mine productive.an inclined shaft is easier.an open cut mine is easy with invention of heavy earth moving machinery. I am an old miner from India.
And all the miners who died during the wars in UK and globally, fuelling the war efforts. Never included in statistics.
Absolutely correct
