To be honest I don’t really think anyone who says universal has “won” is really referring to them immediately winning once epic universe opens. Of course it will take some time. But the overall is that universal is trending in an amazing direction and Disney is trending in a bad direction

Keep in mind that the Tokyo Disney parks are owned 100% by the Oriental Land company so while Disney Imagineers may be involved, it’s not fair to credit something like Fantasy Springs to the Walt Disney Company.
Also, with you saying that Disney is a stronger brand than Universal, keep in mind that Nintendo is just as if not a stronger brand than Disney. Which is even more proven if you consider that Pokémon (which could very likely come to Universal) is the highest grossing media franchise in the world!

It is also believed that Mario is more well known than mickey mouse. If they wanna win loyalty over, one thing they can do is add Godzilla to their parks, as the Godzilla fan base is pretty much loyal as long as it doesn't recreate 1998.

@@charizards2009 That is a bit debatable considering Mickey is more well known than Santa Claus. However that being said Mario is a huge powerhouse, and if Universal play their cards correctly and also get Pokémon and what not, they’re poised to give Disney a run for their money.

Disney has future plans for a retheme of Splash Mountain to Tiana's Bayou Adventure adventure, additional meet and greets with new characters like Figment, and a Bluesky concept to update Dinoland to Tropical Americas.
Universal is building an entire state of the art theme park in Orlando, an entire regional park in TX, just bought land for a potential entire new park in the UK, and is adding their Halloween Horror Nights to Vegas. Not to mention they are still upgrading their current parks with maybe the best coaster in CA with Hollywood Drift, adding DreamWorks land and potentially Zelda and Pokémon to their Orlando parks.
Universal has OWNED Disney as of late. and thats coming from someone who goes to Disneyland 3 times a year, and WDW once a year.

In real time, today, Universal is way better and more affordable than Disney. I bought an annual pass for my wife and I and when we came back and I made a mistake thinking our passes were still active. (We are workaholics)They made us pay for parking and I argued it then I went straight to the guest service counter and the girl there showed me accurately that we were wrong(I’d messed up my dates and passes were expired) She said she was sorry we were disappointed and her manager was there. He spoke briefly with her then she offered us an extra 6 months on new passes if we would choose to buy them, 18 month passes for price of 1 year, because they were sorry WE made a mistake, that I admitted. She said they just wanted my wife and I to remain loyal customers at their park and have a good time. Then asked if that was same card I used to park and refunded the parking instantly. Universal went above and beyond, even after I agreed I’d made a mistake and they were right. They said it doesn’t matter, they didn’t want to disappoint us, as we were highly valued guests. That’s true customer service. This is our park now and I can’t wait to see Celestial Park

While there is truth in numbers with this, I do want to point out something that is well known within the theme park world and just IP business in general. You keep talking about how short-term but all theme parks are all based off of longevity and long-term. This is where Disney is honestly in a crisis mode, at least for a while. As you said, the current crop of Disney fans that are blind nostalgia to their brand were the children like myself who grew up with the Disney Renaissance. Problem is that does anyone remember anything from Disney from the early to mid 2000s? Maybe a couple of things from Pixar? The only real strong brands they have going forward outside of the maybe one or two. Recent animated films are Star Wars and Marvel. Which one are both not doing so hot right now after a bunch of mismanagement and similar to universal. As you said, if you take those away, the Disney brand itself has definitely lowered in value since the 90s. You know what hasn't lowered in value and in fact is been constantly expanding until it's exploded recently? Video games. And this is where Disney is the absolute horror at this. They've been wanting video games for years and their biggest problem was there inability to completely comprehend that Nintendo is the Disney of video games and thus is the Disney of the new generation. This way Disney was hoping that when galaxies edge and avengers campus opened up they would have influencer videos of people crying walking in. That never happened and I say that as both a marvel and Star Wars fan. Know what small addition to a park in two different parks got that exact reaction? Super Nintendo World in Japan and Hollywood. Not only is that extremely telling, but when I look at the new editions to Disney I don't really see any kids. It's all those millennials the kids are simply tagged on. Time I see super nintendo world. It's been the biggest mix of people and you can see where this IP has truly crossed generation multiple generations. In a couple of years you're going to have grandparents who are the fans of Nintendo and grew up on the NES with their sons who grew up on the GameCube in the Wii who are now taking their kids who are taking the grandkids who have Switch 2 to Super Nintendo World and any of the expansions Nintendo makes. This is why Disney's panicking this is why Disney has now stockpiled everything they have into epic games and I will shoot you not because it's the only way they be able to complete since their Minecraft venture failed which was a big rumor for a while. I would not be surprised if in a couple of years Disney literally fucks over the biggest purchase since Star Wars. Probably exceeding it double the amount to get fortnite into the Disney parks despite the use of firearms in that game. This is how desperate that company is because they know video games are the Disney animated films of the future and they are horribly missing out on them. Especially with the way they've been this manager things and again the big Disney fan and like a lot of their stuff, including a lot of things that a lot of people don't normally like. But this is simply the truth and so while the numbers look the way they do now, everyone is seeing the drop off and no one is happiness, especially the shareholders and their especially unhappy by the word of mouth.

I agree, mostly. The theme park wars wont end until one of them goes bankrupt, and that seems unlikely. The real question is a matter of each companies trajectory. And their are multiple categories to look at.
    1) Attendance. I doubt Universal will surpass Disney in terms of attendance in the next 10 years, (which I think is a stupid marker anyways) although attendance is growing faster at Universal at the moment. So if current trends continue they probably will at some point. Even if Epic is a roaring success (and i think it will be) Disney just has one more park to take advantage of in the Orlando market. And has twice as many parks globally. I think Universal taking this crown is at least 20 years away if things continue as is.
    2) Opinion of the parks. Universal seems to be winning on this front in America. Less so overseas but they are making progress. But because general Opinion of parks is so heavily based on the Orlando parks. And the increasing general consensus of the parks in Orlando seems to be positive for Universal and Negative for Disney. IOA is already the best park in Orlando and Epic seems to be even better. Having the two best parks in Orlando will definitely help Universals image. Universal probably does have the capability of becoming the worlds 'favorite' park chain and they'll probably do this before they could take the attendance crown. But this is going to take years and is once again based off of if current trends continue.
    3) Who's leading the industry. I also think this is increasingly going in Universal Direction. It's no secret that former Imagineers have been heading to Orlando to work on Epic. In Japan where the OLC can edit Disney's work Dinsey will be fine and continue to innovate. Although needing the OLC to be an editior to insure Imagineerings best work is not a good look for Disney. In America though and overseas outside of Japan Universal is just building amazing stuff. It's hard to imagine Disney building something of the quality and scale of Epic Universe right now. I don't think they could even if they tried.
But like I said no one wins or losese the theme park wars until someone goes out of business. But at the moment, Universal's trejectory seems to be mostly positive and Disney's seems to be mostly negative.

On the surface it's easy to see why universal may dominate over disney. However, many overlook one very important thing. Disney has a massive worldwide multigenerational fanbase that is rabid and almost cult like. And they continue to indoctrinate each subsequent generation. That's something universal will never have over disney no matter what they do. Disney has a spell over its fanbase in a way that no theme park industry ever has or ever will.

    @malaikavinson4435 Před 6 měsíci

Right now you are absolutely correct. Disney is in general more family friendly with more properties world-wide and they have a larger self made ip selection. The question is will universal bridge the gap between them and Disney. I honestly think they can if Disney continues to remain stagnat in their themeparks department. Universal is planning to build atleast 3 theme parks around the world over the next ten-ish years. They also where looking into licensing pokemon and lord of the rings. If they continue expanding they could be comparable to Disney.
As for whether universal will "win" in Orlando once epic opens, the most likely answer is yes. Nothing can beat the draw of a new theme park.
The hotels are cheaper and people would spend more in universal property giving them tons of sales. Universal tends to in draw in people by offering free extra days in the park when you vist for mutiple days, this would lead to people favoring a universal week long trip with maybe 1 or 2 disney days. So yeah. It will be like that for a while in Florida.

ur compairing 4 disney parks attendance to 2 universal parks in Florida. of course disney gona have more. when epic opens and gives them a third park. i bet they significantly close that gap. also disney doesn't own a lot of their overseas parks. other companies own, run, and innovate them. just last year took my family to all 4 disney world parks and both universal orlando parks. my wife and all 3 kids enjoyed universal better. we have no plans of ever returning to a disney park due to prices and inconvenience. but are already saving for a return to universal orlando after epic opens up. and want to talk about name power? harry potter, mario, pokemon, jurassic park those are some if not the biggest brands on the planet. universal has won the park war. and they won it 10 years ago with better planing, better innovation, and better business moves. just takes time for those decisions to take effect. i say another 5 years universal orlando will have just as many or even more guests then disney flordia. expectually if the rumored pokemon land get put in where the soon to be gone Simpsons area is now.

Yes Disney has a crazy almost under a spell fan base but there’s an entire new generation of universal adults now. 2:35 DIsney hit it right on the Dot with Galaxy's edge?!?! What?!?!?! Uh- no! DIsney blew it with Galaxy's edge. Although The Rise Ride was cutting edge, but, by staying woke and using the garbage new Star Wars IP as the basis, the rest of the land lacked the charm and familiarity that was needed to call it a W. There is no comparison between Wizarding World at Universal and Galaxy's edge. Big 1st time ever win for Universal, once thought impossible.
Then, After less than 2 years DIsney Closed the Star Wars Hotel taking a huge Financial hit. From What was Promised(and SPENT) to what was delivered by DIsney, this was a huge Black Eye for Disney and a LOSS!! The best of the best creators now work for Universal as DIsney no longer requires great skill to be an imaginer you just have to be oppressed. Disney ran off most of the straight white males that had built The Great Disney Universe to begin with. Sad to see Disney dying this death but it is self induced. This Video will not age well. DIsney attendance is dropping and for now Disney better win with the head Start and all the advantages they had. Now you compare them 1 to 1? $60 Billion is nothing over 10 years. Its $6 Billion a year most of which will be spent over Seas and on Cruise Ships. You are going to be shocked to see how fast Disney falls. The Magic at Disney is dead. @@charizards2009yes totally agree that it’s all about your personal connection. My kids are adults and still love Disney so the connection stayed - and I’m the same. Universal is working to build emotional connections too - but I think the stickiest and most fervent type of connection is happiness and love. If Disney elicits that in a person then it’s lasting and we can’t get enough of it. Disney character hugs are really something special.

I mean I grew up watching Disney but never really got attached to it, I just generally like universal as a park rather than Disney

@@mightyyoshiyt6772 sure it's not for everyone. Lots of people like Universal more than Disney of course. I really do like Universal Parks but we visit Disney 4-5 times a year (flights and hotels) and Universal once every 5 years. I know so many people who just can't get enough Disney - it's hard to explain the emotion of it.
