Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind is definitely my favorite Ghibli movie. The story is amazing and it scratches that "weird-looking movie" itch in my brain perfectly. The toxic jungle and its depths under the surface, the creatures and plants, as well as the new age-ish twangs of the soundtrack (and the more conventional parts of it too) lead it be such a beautiful and strange movie
Have to agree, although Laputa castle in the sky is my favourite, Nausicaa is a very close second. Both beat everything on this top 5 list anyway, no contest.
I agree!!! I barely see people mention it and it makes me sad because it’s my favorite Ghibli movie. It’s the perfect mixture between weird style and powerful storytelling and characters.
Its my personal favorite. But its sad to see that people are interpreting it as Marnie being gay for her Grandma. Its such a good movie and the ending made it all better.
After watching The Grave of The Fireflies, I started binge watching plenty of the Studio Ghibli animation movies, it's so nostalgic and full of lessons❤
As a Massive fan for the underrated Masterpiece that is Porco Rosso, I am still happy That these other masterpieces got Mentioned and even brought me to the world of Ghibli.
I just went to go see it for Ghibli Fest and now im a Ghibli fan. Ive seen Porco Rosso, Ponyo, and Howl's Moving Castle. Maybe later this month im gonna go see Spirited Away.

**The Tale of the Princess Kaguya has left the chat** Princess Kaguya is an extremely underrated movie. A CZcams channel actually said that he didn't think it was possible, but it topped Spirited Away. The animation is beautiful. I felt every single emotion possible during this movie. I laughed at the childish nature during the first part. I felt hatred and anger towards Kaguyas father as he slowly turned into a man of greed during the second part. I cried as Kaguya got her life ripped away from her, piece by piece during the third. I'd highly recommend.
Howls moving castle is my favorite one absolutely. Its practically part of my childhood i will never forget it. I just recently rewatched and its still a masterpiece.
Studio Ghibli movies are top notch. There is a lot of art and craft made into the animation, storytelling, and music. Joe Hisaishi's music is magical and tailor made for the movies. Oh yeah, I love Spirited Away and Princess Mononoke. Now introducing my kids to Ghibli through Ponyo and Kiki's Delivery Service.
Picking a favorite Ghibli movie is so subjective that I totally agree that lists like these don't need to exist. This is this guy's favorite list. Mine would include Castle in the Sky and Pom Poko. It's shocking to not even see Kiki on the list.
I love that movie! But I'm confused how the little girl survived if her home was wiped out a long time ago, was she suspended in the sky the whole time? 😂
honestly, i think Porco Rosso should be considered too, it was one of the most political movie studio Ghibli ever made, a slap in the face of fascism which wrote some of the best mottos against Totalitarism, and as an Italian I can't not appreciate the accuracy and study of our history that went on behind the scenes
I showed my mom 'The Spirited Away' it was the first anime movie she had watched. She loved it so much, she even told me to show movies like this and I showed her other Ghibli movies but Still Spirited Away was her favourite one.
Personally “From up on poppy hill” is my favourite as it is different to the other movies and has a slice of realism and nostalgia in it. Also, SHUN IS SOO HOTTTTTT 🥵❤😂
I love studio ghibli. It's work is just so imaginative and creative. Whenever I watch one of their movies, I just get this feeling. My fav movies from them are my neighbor totoro, and spirited away.
Spirited Away is my favorite of all the movies I've seen. There are a lot I still have to watch, but Spirited Away is a literal masterpiece. The music, animation, and the backgrounds are just insane. Especially when we get those quiet moments where you really get to feel the environment. The train scene is iconic for this reason.
It’s insane how I remember spirited away from when I was a child but I didn’t know what it was until only 2 or so years ago it was so memorable that I remember scenes from it for what was likely a little over a decade despite the fact I’m usually not able to remember much of anything after a week
It says a lot about studio Ghibli that I haven’t seen any of these ones yet but still consider the ones I have seen to be great works of art (the wind rises, porco Rosso, grave of the fireflies and princess Kaguya)
Princess Mononoke is my favorite. I seen it for the first time in theaters last year for Ghibli Fest and i loved it. Currently trying to watch all Ghibli movies that are on hbo Max rn
