In this clip, our heroine takes on the massive, seemingly unstoppable manifestation of AIM Burst that threatens Academy City's nuclear reactor. Much of the dialog has been removed from this clip to focus on the action in the episode, namely Mikoto taking on a monster several hundred times her size.

These words just hit me straight. I was down and sad, but every time I hear Misaka says "try once more", I gain power from it. To me, To Aru Kagaku no Railgun is a remedy and Misaka Mikoto is God. She saves me from suicide.

先生の これが...レベル5ってセリフが地味にかっこいい
なんというか…弱めのキャラが圧倒的な強さを見て、その格の違いを実感するのっていいよね（強い方がいいやつ・善性である場合に限る&弱い方もある程度強い場合）。逆に身の程も知れず、無様に向かってってボコボコにされるのはスカッとするからまたいいよね（身の程を知らずに無様に歯向かってるのは嫌いだが、返り討ちにして圧倒するのがいい）。ex）某学園都市最強の超能力者に歯向かう有象無象共など。
一期は妹編のための準備運動みたいなもんよね、、
シリアス度が違う
他にもすごい戦闘はあるけど、個人的にはこれを越える『レベル5』の戦闘はない
御坂美琴さん美しい。。
よく考えたらAIMバーストってAIM拡散力場の集合体で、

Sorry if you have already been answered I know that this is an old question but it is also quite a prominent one. It is answered in the index light novel quite a few chapters down the line when someone analyses how Touma fights, against Mikoto he holds his hand forward and moves in such a way that his arm acts as a lightning rod drawing the attack to it and neutralizing it.

i think accelerator changes in vectors are active(so he need to keep changing them to fly) and as soon Touma touched him he lost all momentum gained

yeah, he can't be directly attacked by any supernatural means, but his powers don't shield him against indirect attacks.
the only time i can remember this happening are when he fights accelerator and accelerator uses girders, rail tracks and a dust explosion instead :P

これレベル上げる努力がほぼ意味ないってのが一番ひどい…意味ないことはないんだけどレベル0うまく行っても３止まりくらいのはずだったし
well it may be diferent since Stiyl use magic for his attacks and he keeps powering them(like accelerator changing vectors to fly but losing all momentum as soon has Touma touch him) but the railgun is different since after the intial charge to launch the coin it acts just as a normal railgun so no magic or esper power are involved, the only way he can stop the railgun will be touching Misaka before she fires the railgun
Armando92 I don't know, in Railgun's season 1 Touma protected Mikasa, Uiharu and the little girl from an explosion created by an ability. That is, explosions are normal so he couldn't be able to prevent it... so I think Touma can cancel any phenomenon whose origin is not Natural... I dunno that's just my interpretation of his Power, I can be wrong

@KenjuStorm Thats because she was an AIM aswell. Just she was more of a natural accuring one, plus was in control of herself.

この回大好きなんだけど所々美琴が作画崩壊？とゆーか絵柄が崩れてるところがあってざんねん。特に1番盛り上がるとこの7:24の顔がやばい。
感情の捉え方で見方がだいぶ変わるのかな？という印象です。
おそらく崩れてると指摘されてる場面はうつむき気味な、アンニュイ な表情の場面だと思うのですが、その前の場面で美琴が気づいてあげられなくてごめんね〜〜という件があり、美琴の中で自責やそれらを認めた上でそれでもがんばろうとか、諦めないでほしいとか、いらない雑音は引き受けるとか、いろいろな感情が入り混じって、それでも最後は前を向こう！というのが伝わってくる、素晴らしい作画だと私は思いました。

It takes him about a second to change from one to another and his telecknises form has a reach of about 5meter around him.
No unfortunately not. If Misaka used that strategy the atmosphere will be filled with AIM particles from Misakas power and then Touma just have to wave with his hand and voila! Well all he needs to do is just touch the air and it will negated to the time the air was normal without supernatural interference i think..
fire_panda actually, his power only works in direct contact to his right hand, so if the temperature is indirectly raised or the air is sucked out, he would have to wave his hand at mach speed to negate every single thing around his whole body in a single momente.
Not to mention the time it takes for things to go back to normal, where he would pass out or burn to death
yes it can, Touma actually destroyed some magic weapons in the series.(Spoilers) the one i can remember was that light spear that cut things with the reflection of light that was used by that dude with the power to disguise himself with the skin of others

It's true that he can avoid any supernatural power, but if you make the atmosphere around him so hot that he can't handle it anymore, he'll just die burnt like every other human.
Exactly like Misaka clone tried to do with Accelerator subtracting air from the area around him. He's invincible, but he still needs to breathe.
If you can't kill these men, just kill the way they can live.

I think that Touma can not beat it by just a touch. AIM burst is a collection of 10000 persons' emotions and Touma's Imagine Breaker doesn't work on emotions. Well I think so :3.

Problem is, he'd have to take 100000000 damage before being able to get into close quarters then another 100000 damage to touch it. His weakness has been exposed in novels, and it was so glaringly obvious that he now has to learn from it.

But he also stopped the fast flying Accelerator just by punching him and Touma isn't strong enough to stop that enormously kinetic energy with just one punch so it must have been Imagine Breaker and I think it would be the same with the railgun. But you're right, it would make more sence if his Hand would just get pierced.
Just touching it is boring.This fight is more epic with Misaka!
unless Touma unlocks the true power of Imagine Breaker and gets the negating field all over his body and gets to retroactively negate ALL CREATION

Well for all I know Touma can just run and touch the electricty and it'll be gone in less then a second.
Not only spell . Touma's Imagine Breaker can destroy any kinds of Supernatural powers, since that thing is a lump of AIM (like espers powers) then Touma can destroy.
Well atmosphere isn't anything supernatural so he couldn't.
But if he just went through Styl's flames like if they were 0 degrees, I don't think some little heat would hurt Touma at all. -w-
