Watching this after the trailer and the pictures, trying not to cry. They're horrible. I understand there is a budget and everything, but cospalyers, and god even I myself could've done better. I genuinely don't understand why they did what they did. Every single outfit looks like it was bought from a Halloween store. Yes, it's Nickelodeon, but the styling choices are so off. it hurts my soul as a fashion lover and as someone who really loves the original show.
yeah I really don't know why it looks like this, and idk if it's the stylists or directors/producers that had the final say, but the result is underwhelming to say the least
I think it’s because they wanted to target more to little little kids so they just didn’t think it’d matter. Which makes no sense as the people who used to watch MH are teens-young adults
frrr all the clothes literally look they're from 2010's forever 21 or from justice it's really cringe looking. even if they didnt got as hard/mature as the clothes shown in this video they literally could of done way better theres so many styles that are popular today that would of matched the characters so perfectly.
It’s even worse knowing it isn’t going to flatter the 30 year olds wearing them.
SERIOUSLY PEOPLE WHY DO YOU HIRE PEOPLE IN THIER 30’s FOR HIGH SCHOOLERS?
It makes me wonder the age of the costume director, because there's no way someone with any sort of knowledge or who keeps up with current trends would make those kinds of decisions. Did they just think all kids/teens dress the same as when they or their kids were in school 10+ years ago? Once getting a job in costuming, did they just...never look at anything related to fashion ever again? Or are they convinced that everything current is wrong and the past is where it's at?
some times draculaura wearing lolita stuff and in my head canon she is asian-coded,so it would be cool if she wears some gothic lolita fashion

Do you think you could restyle modern Disney princesses? I know it's cliche, but I think you would do a great job incorporating high fashion details that also culturally relevant. Or maybe you could restyle all the Sailor Senshi from Sailor Moon? Naoko Takeduchi was very influenced by various designers (ex. Bob Mackie) and gave each of the ladies a distinctive personality and vibe.

I think because of the age of the target audience and the fact that the characters will be freshman in high school doing lots of dances they want the actresses to where long skirts. I wouldn't want to film a wardrobe malfunction.
I also think that the dolls looked like runway models in 6 in heels. It would be unrealistic to make them break into dance in NY in heels. The look of the original show is great for dolls and slender adult women to dress as but for a musical you want to avoid injury. They did have the actresses wear platforms. The arch of their foot was flat which is more stable to dance and jump in.
It would be closer to the original yo have people similar to Arianna Grande playing the characters.
Hoo boy.. let's hope they don't screw this one up too. I feel like it's tempting for the adaptation to go full on horror/dark but that would again completely miss the point. We loved this show because of the colours and creative outfits!
Yeah, the show seems to take all the monster ideas and make them fun and colourful instead of scary and that’s the unique quality of it I think!

Yes and honestly it's crazy how fans can create a piece that is covered up but both kids and young adults can love without being overly expensive compared to what a professional studio can do but budget is a thing
They could give Lagoona one of those decorated fish net stockings that you can find in Pinterest. Ones decorated with pearls would be nice. You could also make them have a gradient color that would make the actor's legs look fish like if they would have the legs colored with body color or wear another set of tights under the fish nest, or even have the net shaped in scallop shape just to be that extra, but that might be a bit too much.
Yeah it would literally look like scales but in a pretty way, that’s a really good idea🧚🏻

I am like you, I'm really scared of what they are going to make, for me it will either be fantastic or desastrous.. If it's a live action made to appeal to kids, I am really afraid cause they won't be very experimental and will probably turn the thing into a simple teen musical, or the characters are going to look really cheap. I hope they really experiment with bold fashion because that's what Monster High visuals are about. The character I think you portrayed the best is Clawdeen! However, tbh, I really don't get that E-girl Draculaura thing haha, she is a very preppy girl and is mostly about Victorian/Romantic fashion. To me, she would really go with corsets and be THE lolita icon!
That’s true, I think they should experiment bc kids will be able to enjoy the more experimental version too, while at the same time they could appeal to the older demographic as well!
I think with draculaura it was the hair and safety pins, as well as the heart on her cheek tht reminded me of e-girl style, however I do agree with you ahaha that’s why I had to use some Victorian classic vampire inspirations as well, maybe they can go full on Lolita in the adaptation, we’ll see where they go with this!
Fun Fact : Draculaura’s Heart tattoo on her cheek isn’t a tattoo. It’s actually a birthmark since she’s born on valentines day (It’s on the wiki)

I really want them to go with your ideas. I don't want to see another characters in a 2016 red leather jacket. I want to see something original. They should hire somebody young on the set to help them style everybody or else I feel like it won't go well.

Im PRAYING that the creators see this video 🙏 i absolutely loved your picks especially clawdeen's and frankiesteins's. In my opinion they can either turn out like euphoria or winx. Euphoria incorporated high fashion costumes but still managed to make it fit into the whole aesthetic of the show so the outfits don't stick out like a sore thumb while winx is.... winx. It's gonna be a bit of a challenge since they're monsters but if done right it has a lot of potential to be a big show
Yeah you’re right! This show has a Very specific vibe that I think is gonna translate better if they commit to making it experimental and not being afraid of making it look like a different dimension 🧚🏻🧚🏻

I was a big fan of the series growing up and I think you hit the nail on the head with your ideas. Even though you weren't trying to recreate exact outfits they had in the show/movies you still understood their individual styles very well and chose looks I think that they'd definitely wear.

Imo draculaura isnt really an e-girl, she always dressed very goth lolita, not really with the streetwear-esque style of most e-girls. Other than that she acted very giggly/happy in the show and less toned down like most e-girls ok places like tik tok.
Exactly what I thought. Draculaura isn't an e-girl, her style, to me, is vintage/gothic/lolita. Lot's of pink and black but cute and old fashioned. And as you pointed out her personality is kind/girly/giggly.
btw cleo would KILL the tinsel hair trend and for deuce's "hair" it might be better to try a matted-locs kind of situation than retain the buzzcut
I love that you are so for the shoes, the high platforms are a must for Monster high. Monster high and awesome shoes just go together, especially ultra high platforms as all the dolls have platforms (or a super chunky heel) to varying degrees of very high so that they can stand up. The dolls feet were literally like vertical, the shoes have to be high
Yeah those heels are definitely really interesting and honestly I like that they went for those platforms for them it makes the design stand out!

as a big fan of the original franchise who still looks up to these characters for fashion inspo, i'll cry real tears if they fuck this up. the whole message of the show is to not be afraid to be a monster, to be yourself. so if they don't go all out and make these characters extra as fuck then what's the point?

Fun fact, the reason Cleo always wears some kind of bandage isnt just for the mummy aesthetic, if she doesn't have some of the magic ones on, her body would catch up toi her age, which would be a pile of dust!

Honestly when doing live action interpretations of cartoons they should either study the characters outfits and find stuff that the characters would buy or hire someone who used to work on the characters outfits or designs.

Even without access to designer clothes and whatnot, you can make something look good with a budget, but Disney and Nickelodeon just have the sheer talent to be able to make everything look super cheap
I still think they could have done so much more with the upcoming adaption MOVIE, I mean I get it if they were doing a series then budget would definitely be harder to deal with but fr tho this is goin to be a MOVIE, Idk if they will be doing sequels or not but... :/

draculaura is pretty vintage, which makes sense because she loves fashion ad has been living for a long time, if you look at her other dolls she has this type of vintage siluettes with some 00-10´sensilibities to it.
frankie is a very particular case: instead of recreating the "made out of different parts" thing in the doll itself, they recreated it in her clothes, she has a lot of mismatching patterns and textures in her designs.
as someone who has had my entire childhood revolve around being obsessed with the monster high aesthetics and the world building, you did such an amazing job!!!!

i think you really nailed duce, abby, and clawdeens style. i think that if they didnt whant to animate snakes for duces hair they could do mini dreads. i think that type of hair style would convey a snake effect. ofc it would still have to be green.

@@LisaFevral it would make a lot of sense for duce to be played by a mixed actor actually. Ancient greece was very muliethnic and it's implied Duce is half human so his father being from Africa makes perfect sense
Another option could possibly be golden or silver headwear that mimics the shapes of snakes? It could give off a mythical vibe in a sense, the mini dreads hairstyle would also be a great idea!

i think monster high is one of the shows that absolutely should not be live action. animation works cause all the over the top things can be done without going into the uncanny valley. studio's need to realise animation isn't lesser and should be seen as equal to live action
Monster high was my entire childhood and created 15% of my current vocabulary and I’m here to tell you you did AMAZING! Soooo happy with them and hope to see similar stuff in the movie. amazing work, absolutely love your choices. I would prefer if Lagoona had kept a more sporty style, maybe more streetwear? She's the only character who really wears that kind of stuff and it's a big part of her character, so I think mixing some of the high fashion elements in with sport/streetwear would suit her better. Just some thoughts lol.
yeah you're. 100% right, it's more of my personal bias coming through on that one, since I usually avoid super sporty styles, but Lagoona definitely wears a loooot of sporty stuff, which makes sense based on her interests

Yeah it would be, but it’s quite a niche type of piercing, it would be quite difficult aha
I think it would be really neat if in the movie they gave Draculaura pink coffin nails since she’s a vampire it would be a funny touch I also wish they gave Frankie a Twisted Half-Up Hairstyle since she has that sometimes in the show (and as someone who was a huge fan of the show when I was younger) if you watch the trailer they absolutely butchered almost every character I’m talking about their personality,their looks,even the casting a little bit and they completely changed the backgrounds for most of the characters! and I didn’t even recognize Lagoona also Deuce (Who I also didn’t recognize) doesn’t even really have sunglasses huh? 8:27 As a musical fan... my immediate thought here was the musical Wicked in which the main character is painted bright green throughout the show... I think it would still def be difficult to pull off the sea green white shade she’s got going on specifically though😂 but not because they wouldn’t be willing ig🤔
Yeah it’s kind of also a part of a conversation of how to make everyone fee cohesive together bc of you go to these lengths with this character you have to go that close to the cartoon woth everyone else, etc
Lisa Fevral Right, I get ya. Frankie specifically would be really weird to me without her iconic green skin but that could just be me, and again if they don’t go full with the other characters I wouldn’t want her to stick out way too much
@@m.c.lizard9838 I definitely agree that the skin tones are important, but I really don't know how they can pull it off, they'll need tons of money to afford that which could happen but I guess well see haha
I absolutely agree on the b e e g High-Heels being something that would be absolutely iconic but I feel like one thing we're Going to have to keep in mind is this is going to be a musical, so mobility is going to be a factor. Them being able to dance and move properly or do their impressive acrobatics is going to be an issue, so I don't have the highest of hopes for that, at least definitely not permanently. Not to mention that it would probably quite the hard thing to work with generally as an actor so the moment them moving quickly and properly becomes a requirement for a scene no I definitely don't wish that upon the actors I don't know how they're going to do it. Also the height ratios with heels that big would be kinda whacky next to the dudes assuming they wouldn't have any at least if they don't get platforms as well which would look kinda cool tho. I just wouldn't make the Heels something they gotta wear every single second of the movie, just as a reference to the originals, maybe some more diva or edge centred characters can use bigger ones but I just don't think it would completely translate well at least not as a constant for every single character.

Draculora is actually a goth lolita or a Goro lolita and I personally would love to see that but I know its a darker style and I don't know if people would be bothered by the undertones of it Yami Kawaii would be great for monster high , Goulia was inspired by decora kawaii. There was a lot of J fashion influence and I think that it should be accounted for.
