Wow, this has given me some serious 80's flashbacks! I can distinctly remember seeing the Greg Kihn Band in Boston in the mid-80's at one of the all-day live shows with multiple bands that the biggest rock radio station (WBCN) would host every year. I remember them sounding good, but I had a hard time concentrating because just prior to the show I had completely ruined my chance of hooking-up with an uber-hot waitress I knew who had come over to talk to me between shows....oh well, live and learn. đ

Great song and Weird Al parodied it, with I Lost on Jeopardy. I can't hear the original w/o thinking about it. And now that I have gone thru the comments, I see that I'm not the only one.
I saw them perform at my hometown fest in 1994. It was a suburban fest and there wasn't a huge crowd. The crowd was also kind of casual, it wasn't like they were rushing the stage. Well, Greg chastised them and said the people didn't realize how good of a band they were hearing.

A fun little thing, but I feel Greg (a solid B-list player who never quite made headliner status) sacrificed a bit by letting co-writer Steve Wright put the bass grooves all the way in front (Steve was the bassist) and diminish Dave Carpender's guitar, which had driven Greg's earlier hit "The Break-Up Song". I'll take that over this and "Lucky", personally.
Deeper cuts that reward a listen, IMO, would include "Can't Stop Hurting Myself" and (from Greg's California-influenced debut) "Don't Expect to Be Right". Also he's fine cover artist; check out his versions of the Bruce Springsteen classics "For You" or "Rendez-vous".
