It was once a strong competitor to standard e-Paper, but never truly got adopted properly.

Gallery 3 would be perfect for a digitial image frame. Would really love to change pictures on the wall
i daresay a digital photo frame would look better.
CH-lcd is a nice alternative. It’s more vibrant, accurate, and still bi-stable, meaning no power needed to maintain. The con is that it’s 1 frame per.. 5~ seconds and probably hella expensive still. There’s at least one company that made screens with the screen texture of paint to closely resemble real paintings. It really looked like authentic art up close. It’s still b2b for now.
I have a Galy 3. and while the picture quality is better than anything seen before in consumer products, I wouldn't say is good enough to attract people into digital photo frames. it's still very washed out, and nothing compared to a real photo (or a slideshow showing in a LCD like a google home device).
Its too bad the Good eReader one is/was so expensive. I have a tablet I use exclusivly for reading comic books. I don't watch videos, I never use the camera. If it had that nice screen and a way to sideload the apk of my reader and comics, it would be really good.
Exactly. They're always way over built. I just want a color comic reader. It doesn't need to be fast. Just have excellent color reproduction.
Only solution is stop e-ink monopoly and let more manufactures jump in this market, maybe we could see a new e paper tech that better

@@yinweiwei4210 EFD is too dark in my opinion, I like Daylight DP1 more, but still, their power consumption are still not as good as e-ink I think.
@@yinweiwei4210I was confused by “Electronic Flight Display” and found out EFD or EFPD stands for “Eco-Friendly (Paper) Display” XD. It looks interesting! Is it superior to T-LCD at least?

I was looking forward to a better implementation/ updates of Gallery 3 before getting the Bigme Galy in 2024. It’s definitely the future, now that more people appreciate color e-readers thanks to Kobo, but I guess it’s hard to justify putting more investments into it at this point. K3 is reaching its saturation point soon, with so many devices in different sizes and form factor… and if Gallery is not the future, what else?
The only clue is that in 2022, E-ink had some job postings about hiring new engineers for Kaleido 4. You can read it on goodreader's news page. They're cooking something for now.. 0 idea what it will be like nor how it would be better.
I was just waiting for Gallery 4 that would look less yellow.

For a dedicated color manga/comic reader Gallery would have been perfect.
I think it’s fine. They should just use that tech for signage or picture frames as I just read another commenter say. Good idea.
I was hoping to buy a 10" Gallery tablet. Ended up purchasing Boox Tab Ultra C, but no, Kaleido can't offer any good color saturation. I really hope the R&D on ACeP to continue and become widely available anytime soon.
As much as companies tried, they were never able to get above 8 in
So unfortunately, something like a 10 or a 10.3 is going to have to wait :-(

please review Daylight "Computer" so that people doesnt be scammed, its marketed as 60fps e reader tablet but it looks like a transflective lcd display
enk tech seems to be such a nich which is extraordinarily strange given its use cases. The owner needs to license it more freely and let the world have a go. more supernotes ftw!!!

Such a shame, i guessits the slow refresh rate, ihope eink can increase the refresh rate then the gallery technology can hopefully return as its the BEST colour.
I wanted this technology to work so bad. I don't care that videos are bad, actually I think that's a plus. E-readers should be just for reading and writing (including colourful magazines), not watching videos, we have tablets for that. I even question the writing part. Monopurpose devices are a blessing in this hyper connected world, where you can concentrate and focus on your reading. That's how it should be marketed.

I thought the color kindle coming was rumored to be using gallery 3?
The analyst who sparked that rumor never used the words "gallery 3." His exact wording was "ACeP" so we'll see if that's significant. But, this same analyst said that Kobo was investigating Gallery 3 so there might still be hope
You could've sold me with a pure GeR-branded ereader, without all the other features...but the refresh! UGH, the videos I watched convinced me to stay wary of this technology.
Yeah, we hear you. Honestly we did the best we could. The refresh was an absolute nightmare to dev on.
The betterTech does not always mean will be adopted and often the worst tech becomes mainstream. Look at Betamax, VHS, Betamax far better tech, yet failed. HD DVD was better than Bluray yet Bluray took off

I want to have a reader with Galary 3 for reading books. The refresh speed isn't a matter. I'm sad that Onyx didn't made an e-book with Galary 3.

@@MB-yw7up , I don't know any model with Galary screen. All colour screen models I know made with Koleido.

Well, Sharp isn't presented in my country, as. Bigme. Only Pocketbook. And Pocketbook has not very good reputation as its readers have a fragile screens and often broke. However I like the design.
But I want reader without an additional sensor layer in front of the screen, not a tablet with stylus. When Onyx will made reader with Galary I'll buy one.
Grim, given how rubbish kaleido is in terms of how washed out the colours are and the massive hit to screen reflectivity and contrast. I hope Onyx Boox keep releasing high end devices in B&W. .
