After listening to Boys in The Boat, I promptly purchased the book. Reading the words and looking at the photos enhanced the experience. I would love to see this book made into a movie!

Currently reading "The Boys in the Boat". It's a story of 9 kids coming from the poorest beginnings, having nothing, to putting yourself through college by hanging yourself from rock cliffs to earn money, not knowing where your next meal is going to come from, but all the boys consistent in their love for rowing. It's a David and Goliath story and loving every word of this book. Rumor has it George Clooney is making a movie about this book due in December.

Loved this book, and I live very close to where Joe and his Dad lived on Lake Washington. In fact, we see the rowers from Univ of WA nearly every day as they practice by coming to the north end of the lake.

As a former rower myself this book is highly recommended. An excellent read that I discovered due to it being on Mitt Romney's reading list (not a fan btw). I went to my local library to discover they did not have it and had no plans to acquire it. I had clipped the article on Romney's reading list from the paper and showed it to the head of the library. She promised to look into it and a few weeks later called to say it was in. Like the rowers in this true story, perseverance pays off.

There are some things in life you should never allow comprimise to enter into the picture. Rowing is one of those pursuits. Salute to those who have gone before us to prove this out!

This story could be used at any time in history to overcome the odds because after all underwater as well as in life we are all in the same boat we either rise to the occasion or we sink and the story of humanity we never sink at least in spirit

Normal people say boat as a normal sentence, average rowers think of boat as the people of the boat, but when great rowers hear the word boat they think of their brothers in anything but blood.

In all this footage, very little is of the boys in the USA boat. Most close up scenes are of the German and Italian crews. The Italians wore bandanas on their heads, wanting to look like pirates. When the narrator speaks of specific things happening in the boat, such as the coxswain turning his head, it is not the USA crew. When the filming was done, little footage was taken of the USA boat, or even the British. Believing that they would not win, because of circumstances on the water, Leni Riefenstahl, the director of the filming of the Olympics, knew something few others did and filmed accordingly. The next day she approached all of the winning crews, and using men with cameras to sit in each the coxswain seat and then the stroke seat, she was able to add to her film some close ups that she knew would be lacking. The best way to identify the USA crew is by their clothes. Mismatched shirts, they were unwilling to wear their Olympic jerseys. Too nice to get soiled, they decided. The book is excellent. Not just a story about the boys in the boat, but about life and enduring in the face of great obstacles. The life's stories of the young college boys from Washington are filled with those obstacles. Not just one race. I recommend it to everyone.

" The boys in the boat " which I'm almost finished , now ..more then ever , make me want to see these races , But I read about the hard work , and the how they have to be in sync with each other and work as one Unit , Not matter the pain ,

The majority of people in the depression did NOT live in Hoovervilles. And if Roosevelts policies were so great why didn't the country come out of the depression in 1933 instead of steadily getting worse over the next several years?
