    Great video - I'm shopping for a Kindle for the first time - and your video was so nice to hear your pro's and con's. No screaming, no constant laughing and so many more crazy noises people make on CZcams in giving us their opinion. I'm actually leaning on the one you (so nicely and calm) described your pro's and con's. Great Job!!

    The fact that it’s waterproof now is a game changer. My dad borrowed my kindle 4 about ten years ago and he drowned it. I missed my kindle every day since then. As a teen I couldn’t afford to buy a new one so I’m looking for a new one now as an adult. I just want my little kindle back so bad.

      everything should be water resistant in my opinion. EVERYTHING. it's a must.

    I love my Kindle PW my lovely wife bought me in 2021. My eyesight also is getting worse as I get older and also working in a computer at work all day.
    Since I’m learned to make the font bigger it’s a life changer!! No more large print books from the library. A lot more book options on KU as well. 🎉

    • @happily_ever_april
      @happily_ever_april  Před 8 měsíci +1

      oh yeah that pinch to zoom font enlarger I use all the time. I also always accidentally make it smaller. 😆

  • @lizzieb4457
    @lizzieb4457 Před 8 měsíci +3

    I love that my Paperwhite is water resistant as well. I dropped my previous non-water-resistant Kindle into the bathtub twice and it still worked fine fortunately. I also prefer shorter romances (another thing KU is good for as it is harder to find novellas on Libby, Hoopla, or in print.) I finally just stopped adding books over 250 pages to my GoodReads TBR and to my Kindle. That way I always know if I grab a book it won't be a 500 page doorstop.

    • @happily_ever_april

    I traded in my paperwhite for the oasis and i love how much nicer it is to hold and having the buttons to turn pages because I always found myself accidently tapping the screen on the paperwhite. I do miss how great the battery life was on my paperwhite though. The oasis is still fine but I think I charge it like twice a week instead of once a week like my paperwhite.

    I use my Kindle 11 a lot and have to recharge it about once a week. I still have my original Kindle 5, over 10 years old but still as good as new. It has only 2Gb storage so is a bit limited but handy as a backup.

    In regards to your kindle library you can create your own collections (folders). To organise your books into genres or however you want them managed. So I have one for romance, one for thriller ect. I assume you can also have the same book in different collections if you wanted to organise by the length of the book. Yes you will have to do this all yourself but it'll be worth it in the end.

    • @happily_ever_april
      @happily_ever_april  Před 17 dny

      yes I have lots of collections! it's a nice feature. it'd just be nice to have more automatic ways of filtering.

    Much of what you are describing is true of all ebook readers. Kobo, Tolino etc. use the same e-ink displays, are waterproof and so on. Me I have both a Kindle Paperwhite and a Kobo e-reader. One for the kindle echo system of books, the other for borrowing ebooks from the library and such. I am happy with both, but it sort of sucks that Amazon wants to lock you in to their bookstore. It makes sense from their business perspective, but limiting for us readers. Good review though. Ebook readers are very practical gadgets and relaxing to read on.

    i was never a book reader, but always found it interesting....i have eyestrain when using my monitor all day and i use it all day... it gotten worse to a point i decided to change my life and my habbits and i decided to buy a kindle...
    and i am absolutely amazed... the display looks so nice (i always found e ink displays interesting)
    it has such an amazing backlight, i like to use 6 - 9 at daytime, with 19 warmth setting and it looks unreal xD
    and: i can lay extremely comfortable in bed while reading... this is a thing i really enjoy that i can hold it in one hand, make next page with one hand while laying extremely comfortable,
    nice benefits: the weight
    the less eye strain
    the battery
    very comfortable
    lots of books in a device that you can take everywhere and the feeling of reading is very nice
    150 may be a bit much, but if you tend to read often, ts definetly worth it

    I love mine, but I really want them to update the oasis so I can buy one. I would prefer actual buttons to turn pages. I do prefer to browse for books on my phone over the Kindle. It's faster and I like looking at the covers in color.

    I too resisted e-readers for years. However, since early adulthood I've done the vast majority of my "serious" reading lying down. That worked well during my prime. Now in my seventies, I find it hard to hold paper books above my head or to my side, lying down, for any length of time. With my Paperwhite and a hand-strap that's no longer an issue. Plus, font size and backlight can be adjusted to compensate for tired old eyes. Lack of color is a downside, but only for certain genres. The biggest potential downside I see for any electronic e-book reader connected to the internet is that it gives censor-minded organizations the ability to reach into our units and alter books to suit their needs, without our consent. So far as I know, this hasn't happened to me. But it certainly can happen.

    The things I don't like about the paperwhite is it's not in color and the dark mode doesn't get dark enough for my eyes. I need black black with white font.

      @happily_ever_april  Před 8 měsíci +1

      In complete darkness, When you turn the brightness down to 1 you will see the screen. When you turn it down to 0 you will not see it at all. You will need to turn a light on to see the screen to turn it back up 😂 I did that last night actually

    Unfortunately they massively changed the list view on the kindle a couple of years back and in a lot of opinions that was for the worse… older software showed more books per page (no front cover shown just title and author) with dots to indicate relative length (black vs grey to show progress) instead of the generic percentage bar we have now

    • @happily_ever_april
      @happily_ever_april  Před 8 měsíci

      yeah adding things like graphics with a very small processor probably meant they had to take things away. but there's been many new editions and I think they could improve it enough to bring it back AND do better.

      I definitely won't be upgrading next year unless they are major upgrades. but if you have a much older kindle paperwhite it's worth it. once the new one comes out they'll likely reduce the price on this once so keep your eyes peeled.
