- Yes, we know. Playing the iconic Par-3 16th at Cypress Point is something us mere mortals can only dream of. Well, here's the next best thing - play it with Steve Elkington! Take a walk from the 15th, through the cypress trees and along the Monterey Peninsula and play the hole - will he make a birdie?

My dad, Richard Remsen, birdied this hole 3 days in a row during the United States Seniors Golf Association Championship in 1989. On the 3rd day it was the Finals. He and his partner were 2 down with 3 to play. Dad birdied 16, then 17, then 18 to win Championship 1 up! Thanks for this video! Love seeing it close up!
This video was truly stunning, you guys were like kids getting close to a roller coaster with the excitement. What a pure 3-wood that was!
This hole is just incredible. Absolutely stunning!
That's a bomb at his age
Never knew Elk was this likable and communicative about golf ideas. Please keep it up!
Elk is always laid back.
Great story about Cook. Thanks
Thanks for filming this hole Steve. 1st time I've seen it this close... Nice par and great 3 wood shot !
When Crosby was played at Cypress, this was such a fun hole to watch on TV. I remember a cypress tree that grew about 1/2 way down the fairway which was an aiming point to lay up. I believe they died or blew over? Always wondered which pros would lay up and which would go for it.
Also heard one time that Bing is one of the very few that scored a hole in one on #16??
That's just an awesome hole, even better when see from tee box and of course walk up to tee. Great shot Elk👍👍
That is absolutely terrifying. Pucker meter would be maxed out.
1770 in Botany Bay. Cook was a navigator, his botanist was Sir Joseph Banks...
My College golf team was playing a tournament in the area, so we took the team van down 16 mile drive parked at the side of the road and we all grabbed our drivers. The wind was blowing straight in our face at about 40 mph, we all hit one driver each and this was back in the mid eighties so they were persimmon drivers and no one came close to getting it on, but it an awesome experience.
I played this hole today in fact! Pin was a little more left and my shot (driver) was almost in same spot as his. Also a little more left. Walked with par as well. So awesome!
That looks like an impossible shot
Especially when the wind gusts are factored in
Oh ya, the 5-6 foot putt for par is easy peasy. Well done Elk
Smooth as silk. The Elk.
If I could play 1 course in the world it would be Cypress Point, if I could only play 1 hole on that course it would be 16.
I don’t care if I dunk 5 balls into the water, I’d just be happy to be there
That’s a good 3 👍🏻
Thar hole: A nasty piece of work
As a Hogan disciple I'm really surprised you didn't go with a layup! ...but great shot anyway!
This reminds me of the 6th hole at NSWGC which from the back tees is about 180m. Into a atiff southerly blowing at 15/25km hour, you have to juice a 3 wood. I played it about 15 years ago in the NSW Cup and hit 6 iron 1st round followed by 2 iron in the 2nd round.
It was very scary looking at that water carry.
That hole looked 4
500 yards away, but he put it on the fringe with a 3-wood...so deceiving
Cypress bailed out of the Crosby in 1991 when the PGA tried to force them to have blacks as members. They refused.
Good for the course.
wow wow o
wow
Hey Mr. Elkington great shot. Do you still in Senior's PGA TOUR
How'd ya hit it pard??? Nice swat.
If I could only play one hole....
is he still using that most powerful move?
Awesome beauty. Too distracting for good golf to be played.
