I bought this album when it first came out and I still enjoy the hell out of it. I get so sick of Europe being pigeonholed as the “Final Countdown” band. They are so much better than that. John Norum’s solo stuff is amazing

Yes, it's stupid that all of Europe's studio albums are available, except this one and Last Look at Eden (but the album in between is there). Don't get it. I recall that they all have been on Spotify in the past. It's the same on Tidal by the way.

bad ass 6th album from europe. wow from their 3 4 and 5th album they went back to their hard rock sound of their first 2 albums. fuck yeah. well i love all their albums. they did the right thing going back this way, without that synth pop crap. they sound a lot better today. best rock band from sweden easy, and now they sound amazing. i say buy all their albums and get behind this band. real songs of magic here.

If some of the songs were ten minutes long, this could have been a Dream Theater album, and Flames sounds just like the best of Muse, lol! Any way, Europe is such a great band, and Joey what a powerful voice!
You can hear a clear new direction on this album, popular bands at this time as well influneces for their playing might have been the likes of Audioslave with Chris Cornell and Stone Temple Pilots / Velvet Revolver with ex-GN'R-members like Slash and Scott Weiland. John Norum said by the time that his biggest influence for this record was Black label society...and the guitar sound and riffs are definitely going to that direction.

Despite the success they gained with "The final countdown" and "Out of this world" the band never truly enjoyed their Pop approach due to the pressure that the record label put on them to become famous in USA and England. From the "Start from the dark" album Europe definetely started to make the music they always wanted and liked, it was a back to their roots, UFO, THIN LIZZY, DEEP PURPLE, though in this record SFTD they used a trendy style.

Damn, I wish they had kept this melodic rock/metal style which they masteres so well here. After "Start From The Dark" they've developed this more blues-oriented style, which I think has gotten boring of late :/

They are all great. I especially like this one, "Secret Society", and "War of Kings" is the bomb.
There is something of post grunge and alternative metal in this album. A great album by a great band.
