What a friendly and modest sounding dude.
I wonder what he sings about 🤔. Definitely not about peoples skin rotting off or anything.
John actually minimizes his incredible talent in this interview. He is the best extreme metal vocalist on the planet, and has been for 27 years
True, but that shows how down to earth this guy is. He's not a show off like a popstar or something ( funny cuz most popstars arent that talent to be nice )
Saw them live a week ago and he was fucking incredible. It absolutely blew my mind that pretty much three decades later his voice is just powerful as fuck and has only gotten better.
Chris Barnes is up there right with him.
The Best Growler x
@@BBQcheese both are awesome
Best voice and hair in death metal
alex bouks has the best hair in death metal
@@yunusemrehacoglu8076 Alex Bouks is an regular guitar player, John Tardy is a death metal legend thats the difference
Dimebag had best hair*
John had best vocals
@@yunusemrehacoglu8076 I think you mean Ross Dolan from Immolation. Same band but Ross is the singer with LONG ass hair!
Best wearer of shorts and grower of hair
I've been a fan of Obituary for 25 years and have seen them live. This is literally the first time I have ever heard John Tardy speak in his actual voice. I literally clicked on this video to see if he actually spoke with a human voice...25 years.
Haha same. Even when he is just addressing the crowd during a show he still does it in his singing voice
I remember seeing Death back in the 80's. Chuck would speak between sets and sounded like a California surfer dude. It just didn't add up. Lol 😅
_"RIEAIEGGHHHHHhhhh!!!!"_
-John Tardy
He seems like such a nice guy. Always thought his voice was terrifying back in the day.
Never skipped leg day in his life
The Robert Plant of Death Metal.
Or Chuck
NEH aka Thatonekidwholikesmetal cmon man chuck is death metal... I found you again NEH
Hello again... And what the hell was I thinking with that comment....
Wait I meant that Chuck Shuldiner could also be the Robert Plant of Death Metal
NEH aka Thatonekidwholikesmetal ah, I see. Good morrow!
This dude is one of the best...if not THE best death metal vocalist there is. Dude is too humble..
Genuinely seems like a nice guy .. playing live he has a great time with the fans too.
what about chuck?
@@victherattlehead5099 Chuck is dead!
@@thegreatunknown8014 respect Chuck, fucker.
Ive been a fan for 33 years. Seen them 3xs live. The deep friendship they have with each other and the humble, fun, down to earth nature of them is so cool. They do what they do because they love it. A lesson for other bands and people in general. OBITUARY FAN FOR LIFE
This is the first time Ive heard JT speak without putting on the Obituary voice.
instagram.com/p/BootBDUhBf7/
Me too. Even when he speaks between songs he uses his death scream.
Way too humble. John is a vocal titan in the extreme metal genre, along with Glen Benton and David Vincent. John's vocals on the first two albums is PHENOMENAL.
We Love You John Tardy ❤
This is the first interview I've ever seen of John since I discovered Obituary (I'm a young kid) but man he seems really laid back and doesn't have any sort of gimmick. Just a genuine guy, that's really nice to see in this genre.
I've always found it funny how people seem to think that death metal bands sacrifice barn animals and drink their blood in their spare time. They are people no different from anyone else; but for some reason when many people discover this they are more shocked than they would have been if they found out they actually do sacrifice barn animals and drink their blood.
@Raul Ramirez Glen is all talk too. It's just his persona.
You ought to check out George Fisher from Cannibal Corpse. He's very much like a big kid.
I met John on 2 separate occasions..... quite possibly one of the nicest people to speak to.
You can tell that he, like all the other members of Obituary, are really nice and down to earth dudes. They're my 4yo daughter's favorite band
I can’t believe his throat isn’t hamburger after one song! He does it the entire concert! This guy is legend!
I love this man and Obituary!
RIP right ears :(
Great band and love that he and his brother help animals!
One of the best death metal vocalists in history.
John Tardy is a genius, and is cool as fuck, and as a great stage presence, love OBITUARY 🤘🤘🤘🤘🎸🎸🎸🎸
His vocals come from deep within the abyss. Ive always admired how he lets the lyrics lingre as if resonating off canyon cliffs. Fucking most brutal vocals
One of The Best (if not The Best) and Iconic vocals in the history of Metal
The point he makes with "it`s not about the lyrics, it`s about the feeling" sums up Obituary perfectly. Yes, they might not be the most skilled and trained musicians, yes they are `just` a bunch of cool guys rocking it out, but exactly this is what is so good about them. They are a much respected band touring worldwide yet everywhere they go they immediately bring the feeling of blowing off steam with some friends in a garage. It`s music that speaks to your soul not your mind. And it does not do that with sophisticated structure or lyrics but with unique sound.
Seen them live a couple of times, and got to meet and chat with the whole band in 2023, And in respons to what he says at the end of this interview, When John Tardy walks on stage HE ALWAYS GETS THE CROWD, OBITUARY RULE👊🤘🤘🤘🇬🇧
My right ear is lonely
lemur sven this comment deserves so many more likes lol
Release him from this lonely world there is no hope WHY DON'T YUUUUU PULL THE PLUG
John and Donald Tardy...two of the nicest guys you will ever meet👍🏻🤘😎
The Best DEATH Metal vocalist
Seems like a real humble guy. Been listening since 1990 but never seen an interview. Definitely masters of their craft.
Oh man, I still remember listening to Slowly We Rot, when it was just released ... blew me away 😨
I remember the first time I listened to Obituary back in my teenage years when Cause of Death, Slowly We Rot...... couldn't understand not one shit what he was growling, back then there weren't lyrics in the cassette lol. But I always loved the band.
Saw them for the 1st time on the Cause of death tour in 90/91, still the best live show I have ever seen. I remember John was doing a sound check while we were hanging outside the venue, and we were totally amazed and shocked at how powerful his voice is. No effects, just pure extreme vocal power.
I love how articulate and introspective John is.. he talks nothing like you might expect or would, unfairly, credit him for... reminds me of Jeff Walker, an underrated human being and entertainer.
What a nice chilled dude he is you'd never guess he possesses one of the most evil brutal voices in all of metal .
these Obituary guys are so cool and down to earth. gotta love 'em!
i emailed the band after a show to thank them for kicking my ass. John replied and was grateful for the support. long time fan here. great band.
"It's more the sound and the feeling than it is the meaning".
Perhaps the best reason I like extreme music.
Dude's got the best vox in the DM industry.
A true legend.🤘
JOHN , YOU ARE THE BEST EXTREME METAL VOCALIST
So humble about his incredible talent. "We're pretty normal people...' haha. Most original death vox...since the 80s. Hope John and the boys keep doin what they're doing for a long time to come.
John Tardy ... too beautiful and the best death metal vocal. I love him. 💜
John is just great - both as an everyday guy and as a death metal vocalist.
OBITUARY!!!!!!!
Down to earth, gentle man👌🤘
One of the best vocalists of all time, so unique and powerful.
I was just thinking "Ive never heard John Tardy talk, I bet he's super nice and down to earth", and of course he is.
Super cool dudes and one of the best live bands I’ve ever seen.
Obituary - great band! I'm listening since early nineties
He comes across as a real genuine guy, great band!
I seen Obituary with Abbath in L.A. the way they treated the fans with respect even when they were crazy made me a lifetime fan, much Love🤘.
Still love this band in 2023
He's such a nice person. He's so humble.. Best vocal 🤘🤘
I like everything from death metal to black metal to thrash metal to power metal to classic NWOBHM, but at the end of the day I just consider myself to be a fan of heavy metal. I like that John refers to Obituary as heavy metal. We all know its death metal, but also identifying it as actual "Heavy Metal" has a nice traditional sound to it.
The vocals and the thick gooey sticky rhythm guitars are the two things I love about the Obituary sound.
" Obituary" are The Greatest Groove Death Metal Band In The World💯💢💥💥💥🤘🤘
John is a Cool Dude!! Obituary Kicks Ass Forever!!! Classic Metal!!!
JOHN TARDY!!!! \m/
Never been a big Obituary fan. But his vocals are top notch. So recognizable. Different.
Always heard they were the best to meet because they were so paid back and genuinely nice guys
He's awesome!!!! Simply superb!
Every interview with vocalists i love. You get to see them as regular guys with sences of humour and relaxed.
One thing John mentions in this interview that I love about Obituary is the sparsity of the lyrics on Slowly We Rot (and Cause of Death to a lesser extent). It makes the vocal parts feel like an additional layer of the songs, e.g. like guitar solos, rather than their focal point. They let the riffs, the arrangements and the production create an atmosphere that speaks for itself, with vocals adding that extra spice on top here and there. Chopped in Half is the prime example of that: the only vocals besides the intro section (the only section containing lyrics) are two of the most beastly growls in all of death metal which embellish the transitions between different sections. It's ironic that the sparsity of vocals and lyrics on Slowly We Rot was not intentional, but rather a result of John's inability to come up with a full set of lyrics for each song in a short timespan. If you ask me, that's a happy accident :D
The whole band has the same attitude. Modest and down to earth, simple people. That said, they are the kings of death metal!
What a humble and chill dude. His hair is still awesome, and I hope I can get to his age and have hair as long lol.
Thanks for this video, i been a fan since the 80's. Talented human are the humble ones..
Its his high contrast and definition, heavy push and control that set the band apart, cleanly expertly done as well” Choppedinhaaaaaaullllf!!”
John I admire you a lot!!!
🤘🤘
John is the Loudest Fan at the Football Game!!! Imagine John Screaming " Throw the Ballllllll!!!!! 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
Big Obituary fan!
After hearing Obituary for years, you just expect this guy's talking voice to sound like blended gravel... however, he sounds pretty normal hahah. Amazing vocalist/band
I would love to hear John Tardy and Obituary pay tribute to any song off the “Scream Bloody Gore” album.
🌷Kant
So genuine. Love this guy
I LOVE THIS MAN
MAAAAN
Obituary guys are so nice
HERO!!! Happy B-day mate!!!
What a nice human being! Even my parents would love him. ^^
The most brutal vocalist in death metal!
A great metal legend!! OBITUARY X EVER!!!
the best death metal singer ever and a cool dude as well.his brother is cool too.it runs in the family.
So happy there is OBITUARY!!
i could listen to this a whole hour...
He is fuckin humble. Rock on buddy
One the the best, elite yet dudes still just cool and humble.
Metal dudes are usually the best kind of people you find in this world.
For real, John Tardy seems like a cool dude.
Live in person at a minimally to moderately equipped venue is the best way to listen to Obituary, they’re geared to sound way louder and cleaner, like their gear is active and pre amped, so it pushes hard enough causing the venue to increase the levels exceed the normal maximum wattage without welding all the equipment in a smoking discharge of high voltage carnage.
He’s so cool!!
siempre , good job Villeneuve
Leggenda del death metal, visti più volte e mai deluso. Grazie Obituary!
Love this guy.
I love OBITUARY!!!
Most badass voice in this genre.
To me is just METAL, simple as that..
John is a musical hero along with his brother Donald and other members of Obituary. Been a fan of Obituary since they were called Xecutioner and appeared on the "Raging Death" compilation album. I still have the original copy of that album on vinyl. Met John at a show in Sacramento and have seen Obituary live in San Francisco and other cities in the Bay Area many times. John is hella cool and down to earth. He is a metal god, a legend, and a pioneer. Such a great voice that is so unique, original, and powerful. He roars across the rooftops of the world, massive and thunderous. Thank you for all the epic music you have created over the years! Can't wait to see them at the October 5, 2019 show in Berkeley.
Думаю, что это добрый и светлый человек.
We love obituary from athens greece....
Now I love them even more... didn´t know thats possible
My will to live!!
Great dude
