  • Overlooking the Solent is this Folly, commonly called Racton Ruin but also called Racton Monument sits 79 feet high (24 metres) and somewhat in disrepair. It's exact reason for being built isn't clear but thoughts of it being a summerhouse for the then landowner, the 2nd Earl of Halifax, or a watchtower to keep an eye on his merchant ships. Built back in in the second half of the eighteenth century, recent attempts to develop it have been dismissed. It is now a Grade II listed building.
