  • How to remove and fit a Graco ProXchange Pump GXff GX21 and other Graco airless sprayers that use the same ProXchange pump system.
Let me show you how I remove and fit a Graco ProXchange Pump to my GXff (GX19 - GX21).
I take it out, remove the 'packers' clean it up, re lubricate it and put it back together and re fit it.
If you are replacing the pump for a new one, remove it like I show you and fit the new one back in like I show you.
It's not hard. See my tip on te threads and what I put on them to make it easier to un do?
It's quite simple to remove and fit a Graco ProXchange Pump on my GXff, which is the same pump/unit as the GX21

I spent all day trying to repair my Graco. Took apart everything cleaned it out reassembled it could not get any suction whatsoever. Finally found your video app. Applied liberal amounts of Vaseline, O-rings, and threads. Finally, it works. You sir have saved the day for me. Thank you so much!

Are you doing that with the same paint or different paints?
When the pump goes... You'll know. It won't work.

Hi Phil. I have the gx21 so great video.. I've not seen many spray videos lately. I'm interested to know the process from start to finish for spraying a room. I've got a new build that wants complete spraying . I'll miss coat and first coat before second fix.then wood work. What tape . And masking drape are you using to cover the Woodwork after being spayed .to allow you to finish the walls and ceilings .all the same colour.

Ooooh that's not over complicated for you.
Do you have a mirka laros?
On new plaster I go over it first with a worn 120 or 80 disc. That's to lightly sand off any plasterer's splashes and also it removes surface dust.
Mist coat with Optiva primer (a bit of water to it, but you can use it neat) or use a dedicated barr plaster primer.. suitable for spraying.
I use a graco 516 tip.. with gaurd.. on what ever gun you choose.
Once mist coated you'll see if any filling is needed.
As And as required... There's no need to sand off all the mist coat again!
Then you can start bringing ceilings forward with AR².
Caulk and fill woodwork, once primed... Or is it MDF.
Do your woodwork... Then tape woodwork, a light sand over the woodwork overspray that's on your walls.
      Brush and roll walls.

Hi Phil advice about Benjamin moore scuff x satin or eggshell, is it any good on skirting, and door frames , banisters , is hardwiring as they say it is? I’m using dulux trade oil gloss, at the moment , and 2nd I don’t mind paying the price if I’m going to use it on my own home, but how would you price it up if you on a job , you wanna use the best product do you calculate your day rate plus scuff x or add a 1/4 of the price of the scuff x onto your day rate many thanks Shane

I'll answer you properly this evening.
But don't work on day rates!!

      ScuffX is very good.
Good prep and you'll do two coats of Sx.
Other options to consider... Jono Aqua Gaurd.. they do an UC for it too. But if you have good woodwork and prep it well you many not need the UC.
Isomat isolac.. UC and two top coats... Great stuff as well.
Bedec... Aqua Advance.. UC and two top coats.
With most three coat paints...If you can get an UC on and the 1st top coat in a day... Leave the 2nd coat till the next day.
It goes on better on itself if you leave it till next day.

When you price a job... Give the customer the whole price including material and labour.
Don't let them know the split of labour/materials.
Then buy your materials at trade price and you'll be charging out at RRP so you make a little bit.
Remember.. materials are a small price on the whole job compared to labour.
If you use ScuffX.... That may only be £50 more on materials than something else. It's hardly going to break the bank on the price of the job. ;)

@Shane Newton Jonhnstones AQUA Guard is superb! Used it on many a stairwell balustrade with much success as customers have since had beds delivered scuffing the paint and it being able to be wiped clean - so it's tough!

I've got one and it's brilliant! I sprayed the walls of an aircraft hangar with mine, along with some residential properties too, and it performs very well! I also have the Q-Tech QP019 which has been replaced with the newer QT190; there's a notable difference in pump stroke rate compared to the Graco - the GX21 strokes much less, which equals less ware on the machine and is therefore more efficient.
