To be fair.. unmodded mag is pretty compared to the modded counterpart and a beginner wouldn't really know how to use mag well, so that's probably why he told him not to pick mag.

Mag is the best starter, not excalibur btw. Especially for the tutorial of this, use her pull to suck enemies into a ball and just blend them with a melee lol.
And the most powerful as well, she'll eventually explode entire rooms with her second ability. While Excal will start strong but won't scale up as well into higher levels
