Thing with midfielders from France is that you could end up with a Tchouaméni / Camavinga but you could also end up with a Ndombele or Bakayoko. Very risky.

Excellent work George. I love this player and have enjoyed watching him. He’s absolutely courageous and has the gift on the ball to exert his influence of courageous authority.
Paul Pogba was that elite authority on the ball able to do everything a dream no6 must do. So, the biggest question will be things we didn’t see about Fofana, such as mentality, and ability to learn and respond to a continued learning environmental culture. Some players have all those qualities but fail to take in the continued education at a very high and demanding level.
Great managers have repeatedly overlooked Fofana and I wonder why? Few can match the lofty talent he displays every game.
What I know is that Mikel Arteta prioritizes the players with a certain “teachable spirit” like Saka, Odegaard, Saliba, Partey, Trossard, Rice…players who also posses great talent and are very ambitious and hungry, yet their feet are deeply planted in the ground.

3-2-3-2 with Rice & Fofana next to each other in midfield. With Harvertz partnering someone in the Sesko role. ODEGAARD in the 10 with Saka and Martinelli flanking him. I think this is Arteta's solution to improve us next season.

I know very little of Fofana but the analysis from you guys does portray the kind of player we need.
The only caveat is that in order to wrestle the title from City and save the PL.... I feel we need to sign PL proven.
I would love Luiz but can't see it being a realistic deal to get done.
Although they are different profiles, I can see the likes of Eze or Gallagher thriving at Arsenal.
Though, signing or more attack minded midfielder does commit Rice to the 6 role.

I really like what James Benge said on the Inside Arsenal pieodcast, and I am paraphrasing a bit: If we cannot sign the long term midfield star we can sign a depth player or a clear temporary solution.
Finding players that improves the Arsenal team, suits Artetas ideas and is available on the market is not easy at all.
Finding suitable depth players to cover and rotate is easier and might be the better current option.

If we get Fofana and loose Partey I'd like us to go for a De Jong/Eze/Gibbs-White or just any more attacking and creative profile. Obviously Musiala would be unreal but I think thats a bit of a pipe dream.

  • @karlfroberg520
    @karlfroberg520 Před měsícem

In general, we don't need to improve the first team in terms of signings if we have everyone fit for the entire season.
In terms of availability and/or the squad position they have held it's basically Partey and Eddie that really needs replacing. Fofana and Sesko seems to be good options for that.
As for moving ESR and Vieira on I think keeping them as possible cover options for Odegaard and Saka is more important than the possible gain on the business side of things as we are lacking people that may slot in.
A lot will depend on what version of Gabi Jesus comes back to us after the summer break, how will that impact Arsenal moving forward. If we have a fit Jesus then there is little need for a winger, of not then there may be room to improve on the left side depending on Martinelli.
As for Trossard he is great but there has to be another long term plan on the left side since he is our oldest forward even though he is on the right level.

    • @karlfroberg520

I believe he (Youssouf Fofana) is a perfect hybrid (6/8) midfielder we need to pair with Declan Rice (8/6). This would allow both of them to possibly swap roles during games, which could bring more variability and unpredictability to our play and tentatively make us more productive in the final third. Come On, you Gunners (COYG). It is our time to be very successful and fully dominate.

DM is for me the most critical area. Excellent link with Fofana!
When we lost and dropped points, it happened in ALL the games that Declan Rice played at DM (no6). Very frustrating and questionable right? But look at at again. Rice is absolutely amazing but defensively excellent is not enough to be a no6 in this team and at the highest level. You need to be able to be a metronome with the ball; watch Partey and Jorginho, they absolutely matched the MOST critical player profile in Pep Guardiola’s team RODRI. Remove Rodri from that City team and the pants fall off and shame jumps in! Rice will learn this aspect of the game but in Spain, they start way much earlier and go in very very deep. Pep NEVER jokes with this role. Forget KDB forget Halaand. Without the perfect No6 the rest fails to click and collapses under pressure. That’s why people know we miss Partey a lot but this is why; he’s an elite metronome. Jorginho is another. Rice is not yet close.
We matched City in all the other KPIs from other departments and even outperformed them defensively. Goals are not a problem contrary to what people think and say!

So do you think Guimareas can play that deeper metronome deep lying playmaker role. Because I also think as amazing as Declan rice is he doesn’t have that in his locker yet. And it affected our fluidity and the change was noticeable when Partey came back. Jorginho plays that role in attack extremely well but the lack of athleticism gets caught out on a counter attack because that position is often isolated. So who would you recommend that is both good on the ball to play that dictator role and also athletic enough to cover ground? Partey is amazing but I just can’t trust him to play every game which is something you don’t want in a title contending team.

Disagree with the squad adapting to his qualities, he will slot right in and any adaptation would be more from him than the squad.
I agree that it will definitely be a compromise but one with huge upside and very low downside for his price. If Partey goes we will need at least 2 midfielders because of the exit of ESR and potentially even Viera. Even if Partey doesn’t go we still need another midfielder because he’s injury prone. 20-25m for Fofana sounds like shrewd business
