  • First proper test of my newly acquired 3D printed Nathan Airchime P5 old cast replica horn. This horn was made by Welluidend Stimmung Manufacturing, located in Victoria, Australia (link to page below).

This particular P5 is fitted with a custom 370HZ bell in place of the original tuning 392HZ #3 bell. I decided to custom order a 370HZ bell as it would convert the factory chord into an A Major 6th, instead of the default A Dominant 7th that is produced with the regular 392HZ #3 bell. I have the regular 392HZ bell should I decide to convert it back to factory standard tuning, but I've always preferred the sweeter sound of the Major 6th chord over the more tense Dominant 7th voicing.
Please note this horn still needs some minor adjustment tuning wise. It is playing 273, 321, 363, 441, 535 in this video, so the #2 is marginally flat but hardly worth worrying about. The #4 bell is quite sharp, and #5 bell is considerably flat. I am quoting how this horn would theoretically behave if at a warmer 20 degree C ambient temperature, which seems to be the industry standard for testing horns. Keeping in mind this was recorded at a cold 12 degrees Celsius, which would shift the pitches down. However, even accounting for this, the 4 and 5 bells still need minor tuning, because they would still play sharp and flat at 20 degrees C respectively. This will be a work in progress.
I cannot distinguish between this and a real P5 in terms of loudness. They are on-par output wise.
I absolutely love this horn, and the owner of the fabrication company should be extremely proud of themselves for this outstanding feat of engineering.

I hear that the 3 bell is a little flat, making for a really nice tone. Sounds similar to the "OC P5-3L" with a custom-tuned 3 bell that plays an F#.

I ordered this horn with a custom 370hz F# #3 bell with the desire of a Major 6th chord over the Dominant 7.
