Thank you, this video is very instructive and interesting. I have liked and subcribed and will watch more of your videos, or probably listen to them while I am driving, as other time is scarce. Thanks
Had a friend from zhejiang, he said how Singaporean mandarin is very "lazy" in sound, and when he went back during the summer, his grandma scold him for speaking "lazily" after just 1 year in SG Makes sense since there's a lot of teochew, hokkien, and cantonese influence. I also notice cantonese rely more on lah, loh, wo, gaa to add 情态 to the sentence ---- Also funny thing, we refer to 普通话 as 华语 (and 中文 is 华文)
Shanghai and Hangzhou indeed use southern dialects. Nanjing, broadly speaking, is considered a northern dialect. However, I’ve heard that in Nanjing, people sometimes pronounce “zh, ch, sh” as “z, c, s”.
Nanjing (including my hometown Hefei) nears the boundary between northern and southern China, so the dialect has influences from both northern and southern Chinese dialects.

Would Nanjing, Shanghai and Hangzhou use the southern dialect?
