My son and I used to feed the local pigeons. One began to recognise us, and it would go onto my sons shoulder or arm when we bought it seeds and such. A few others would do this too, and it got the attention of passers-by. People would then ask us if we could get a pigeon on them, and take pictures etc. It was heart warming to see these birds finally get some appreciation. They're really sweet birds if you bother to treat them as more than a pest!
In a nearby town of mine they're a local pest. The literally cover people's entire balconies in poo. People have to put plastic crows on balconies to scare them away.

Pigeons are not flying rats - it’s not their fault they carry diseases. They are still an animal worthy of our compassion, kindness and love. They are adorable, tame and friendly birds!
They dont carry as many diseases as humans. The only way I know to even get sick by a pigeon is to find a sick one, pet it and rub it in your eye. Mess around with a human and you can catch all sorts of stuff.

To anyone who wishes to know, the post went something like "I saw some great pigeons the other day" "These are normal pigeons" "Yea but they're great" I love this post, made me realise how beautiful their necks are.

Good point! I was too distracted by the rest of the body language to take note of tail posture. I'm also not as knowledgeable with pigeons, so I find it interesting that this lil' dude wanted pets on the floor. My cockatiel only flies to the ground to cause mischief. xD

That wing action tells me she is very young, or remembers being very young, because babies drop their heads and twist them around to look up, while gently fluttering their wings. Pigeon sounds are wonderfully soothing! ❤❤❤❤😊😊😊😊

My pigeon will do this and call for me until I come over, then he jumps back up and goes back to cooing and dancing. Sometimes they stay low to the ground doing this for their mate, so I'll come over and pet him or pick him up.
@@toolatetothestory yes many many birds will bond and "pair" with their human and act towards them the same they will a mate, the pigeon doesnt actually expect to have sex with you and will still pick another pigeon to live its monogamous life with if theres one around that they like but its just a product of them being domesticated for so long. We bred them to be predisposed to loving humans as much as they love their mating partners

I watch this video to remember my old Pigeon. He died a couple weeks back. Some stray cats somehow managed to break into our house and they ate him on the spot. I remember crying while cleaning up the mess.

pigeons just peck at random leftover food and seeds. rats will actively destroy chicken nests and actually try to break into your home, even if it's from the toilet. comparison is a bit unfair IMO.
I love pigeons. They are birds that are so perfectly evolved to their original niche in life. They are judged poorly based on their forced adaption to suburban lives as "flying rats" in a largely unnatural environment. A healthy pigeon is an amazing example of avian perfection. Pigeon breeders know exactly what amazing natural talents and unexplained intelligence pigeons display.
I love the way the council put spikes up in our town to deter pidgeons from perching, and a year later, the pidgeons were building nests in them. They just don't give a toss. Theyre great!😂
Not all pigeons are this way. My girl attacks me when I have to change her water or food. Hands inside the cage are not allowed. She will ride on my shoulder and fly to me. But no pet pets! She also chases my cockatiel. I’ve seen some pretty friendly pigeons but mine is not. Still think she’s great. If I’d do it over though, I would not have a female again. The egg laying can be a problem (egg bound or not enough calcium). Plus they lay two eggs every month and all she does is sit on her nest after she started laying. She’s hyper aggressive the first week guarding eggs and it tapers off but really… not interactive as you’d hope. There are pigeon rescues that adopt out pigeons if anyone is interested. Google it.
Pidgeons are smart, good and lovely birds ❤ All city pidgeons have ancestors in very important message carrying birds who helped people. My two pet pidgeons are loving and funny persons ❤❤❤ Bless all the pidgeons and people who feed and help them❣️
