I was in 230 Holmes Hall. (You can see the outside window of it at 3:59.) The heater in the room had an annoying "Ping" that sounded every 10 seconds, and drove us nuts. It finally ended when my roommate jammed a pair of his jockey shorts down into the grate. Fortunately, they were a clean pair, because they stayed there for the rest of the semester!

@@amanidrake2805 In Holmes Hall, you’ll be living in either a 2-person suite or a 4-person suite. In a 2-person suite, each student gets their own (very small) private room. In a 4-person suite, you have two bedrooms, and you “double up,” with two people living in each bedroom. You each get your own height-adjustable bed, a desk, a wardrobe, and bookshelves.
(At 4:20 on this video, you will see a 2-person bedroom. Each 4-person suite has two of these types of bedrooms. So if you’re in a 4-person suite, your bedroom will probably look like this, and you’ll share it with another female student.)
Each 2-person or 4-person suite has it's own shared bathroom with a shower, and a lounge area with easy chairs. All the suites have cable TV and Wi-Fi. (I’m assuming they’ve replaced the heating system since I was there, so you’ll probably have air conditioning as well.)
Warnock Commons is the North Halls commons. The two cafeterias are located upstairs inside the Commons. At least one of the cafeterias has a “convenience store” where you can pick up groceries and snacks. Downstairs is the Commons Desk, where you pick up your mail.
(Note: Skaters like to practice their skateboarding on the concrete ramps outside Warnock Commons. Watch out for them!)
From North Halls, you’re within 5-minutes walking distance of the Penn State Arboretum, the Berkey Creamery, Pattee/Paterno Library, and north campus classroom buildings like Forum Building and Chambers Building.
It’s a 10-15 minute walk to all the other buildings on campus, like the HUB/Bookstore, Old Main, Thomas Building, or Willard Building. East College Avenue is 15-20 minute walk. And despite what the lady in the video says at 4:27, East Halls IS fairly close to North Halls - maybe about a 10-minute walk. Beaver Stadium is a 25-minute walk from North Halls.
The CATA bus service offers free-of-charge shuttle services around the campus, but sometimes walking is faster. The key is to know where you’re going on campus, and plan accordingly.
If you have any specific questions about Holmes Hall or Penn State, ask me those questions here, and I’ll answer them as best I can. Good luck!

A square foot comparison for typical dorm room (old vs renovated, complex by complex) would be helpful. From the perspective of this old alum, who had 3 daughters at Univ Park, Behrend, I do not see much difference in closet, storage space, bed, floor space(minimal). Looked like they put in fake wood flooring and that's it. Plus how many elevators per how many students? We had a fire in my dorm in East (Packer) and I had to run down the stairs... no elevator in a fire.
