BEHIND THE SCENES + DIRECTOR COMMENTARY: wongfuproductions.com/2011/03/...
We often want second chances. Sometimes we don't deserve them. The feeling of regret and wishing for another chance is common when a couple separates. Whoever is at fault usually searches for sympathy as they have realized in hindsight their mistakes.
Shot while on vacation in Taiwan with my family. Featuring Kaohsiung, Kenting, Gongliao, and Taipei. No crew or budget, just running around the city with a couple friends. =)

I always come back to this short.
Thanks for filming this, Phil.
Love from Taiwan.
me too :')
me too :)
I love this short, Phil! It's been 10 years. This came out when I was in high school.
One of my all time wongfu favorites.
She didnt forget the past, and yet she didnt choose to dwell in the past. She lights up the bulb by herself at the end. She moved on.
I am from Hong Kong and dated a taiwanese guy from Taiwan at the beginning of the year. We went back and forth between Hong Kong and Taiwan for 3 months and then he lost love to me suddenly. I used to like Taiwan but I thought I won't ever going back again cos I was really hurt. I watched this video one random night and all the memories just came back...I feel very sad, and then a sudden thought came to my mind: why I should stop exploring the world becos of one failed relationship? So I booked my vacation and went to Kenting by myself last month. I guess it takes alot of courage to stand up again from where you fall once. Thank you so much for this video giving me the courage and Kenting is really a wonderful place to visit. I decide putting the light bulb by myself, I miss him but I moved on.
I'm so glad our work can have a positive impact like this. It's amazing to me to think that this video we made 3 yrs ago was able to affect your life on the other side of the world in such a dramatic way. That must've been a great trip. Thank you for your support, and we're happy we could inspire you.
I'm happy for u
So redundant. Thumbs down for you.
Awesome story... have a good live :)
amen happy 4 u .
"Some try to forget. Some tend to dwell. But I will do neither."
ninjabubbles what she means by that is that she will never forget or dwell but remember and not regret
ninjabubble
We are lucky we have people like Wes, Philip, and Ted to show us how life is, and how it is meant to be.
I was looking at my favorite list and saw that I added this 4 years ago. 4 years later, my heart still clenches at the voicemail. I've been watches your shorts since you guys were in college, and as Wong Fu matured, so did the message in your videos. This video summed up a feeling that is hard to put into words. Thank you for the visual explanation. It was beautifully done.
evilkitty51 I'm so glad someone had the exact words to describe the experience of their wonderful shorts.
Every so often, I come back and watch this video, and it's always just as powerful as the first time.
This honestly hurts my heart.
m
I love the ending. I like how she hesitates a bit and then the scene is cut to her fixing the lightbulb.
I cried at his voice message, legit tears are coming out of my eyes dude
All time favorite short
I've watched a lot of your shorts, but this is my favourite so far. It's the one that has touched me the most (the voicemail part)!!! So so amazing. Keep doing what you do, please :)
Can u explain the ending - I didn't get it
I haven't been writing lately, but your short films always inspire me to turn my small thoughts into big stories. Thank you for all your short films. Each short film means a lot to me.
Ahhhhhhh they are speaking Chinese!!!!! #ProudtobeChinese
Chinese is politically incorrect. I think it's Mandarin. :D
Mikoy Mugot It's more accurate, but saying "Chinese" is not really politically incorrect but saying speaking Indian is totally wrong.
I'm biracial so I speak for both sides and reserve rights to be condescending and shit. Just kidding... Or am I?
Happy Chinese new year #yearofthehorse
Eight years ago when I first watched this film, I couldn’t pin point why I felt so captivated by it. Now as I rewatch it, I realize how much this influenced me and my love for storytelling through cinematographic and photographic symbolism. I still love this film so much.
Phil just posted about this video on his instagram, I’m so glad I could see this gem of a short film. Never been to Taiwan but someday I would like to visit.
This is one of my fave shorts of WFP. Beautifully made.
I was her. I wanted him to beside me.
I and my ex, we both were liking travelling. We were planned to visit Malaysia first month of this year. But we're broke up. It was almost a half year..
I stand up now. I just wondering that there's kind of video like this :D I felt the feeling... Hopefully, this video can inspire more women around the world those feel rejected to stand up again.
I saw this short when it first came out, it was so good, with the music and everything, it's amazing you did it on holidays. And now many years later, when I am on a solo trip to Taiwan, taking the train/HSR , walking through the night markets, etc, I feel like I can relate to this even better 🥰
To this day, I still love love this short! I remember when I first watched it, it taught me not to dwell and to stop letting the past make me sad. Today, watching it and really listening to it in Chinese, it taught me to cherish the relationships I have now.
I love this. I love Wong Fu.
I hope Wong Fu will make one of their shorts here in the Philippines soon :-)
Should be writing an essay, instead I'm here watching addiciting Wong Fu vids >< Awww I love you guys too much!
+Pomegranate Grapefruit
well I think I finished it, honestly I don't really remember, but I did graduate :)
Thanks! :)
+Jacqueline Quiroz Same here :3 I should get back to work tho i guess, i'm in the middle of an internship! :) Take care!
Five years later and this can still make me cry -- I'm reminded why this is my favorite Wong Fu short.
rewatching this two years later and still cried. one of my favorite short from them for sure
I didn't realize how much I missed your videos. Wong Fu 4 Life
This short touches me everytime i see it again
I rarely cry while watching CZcams videos, but this one really got me sobbing. Great work on making videos that actually have depth in their content, Wong Fu. Keep it up!
Wong Fu short films are so emotional. This is yet another one to make me tear up. The messages are so beautiful.
This is just so good. I've watched it many times. It is one of the best of your work and the actress in it is PHENOMENAL.
I was like the guy once, watching this made me cry...
I was that guy too...doesn't make you or me a bad guy...we just were not mature enough i think. But i forgive me and so should you.
I know it's kinda late to say this, but this will remain one of my favorite films on this channel. Thank you guys so much for inspiring me and encouraging me with your amazing films.
I swear, Phil scripts and produces my favorite WongFu videos. So far, I haven't seen a comment thanking him, so here is my thanks. Thanks Phil, for making me feel so happy/sad/depressed/optimistic all at the same time. Also, thanks to the wonderful crew who filmed it.
5:31 Cinematic music and story complements each other sooo well.
one the best production i have ever seen ......wongfu ftw!
I was looking for this short and i finally found it again. My favorite short from you guys!
it's been almost 6 years and this is still my favorite video by them
I think everyone's being too hard on the guy. At least we saw that he was sorry and wanted to make amends, right? At least there was growth on his part.
Yes. In the end it was best for them to move on, though, but he did want to make things right, which is great!
Thank you for filming in Taiwan and made Taiwan visible!!!
6 years on and this is still one of my favourite Wong Fu shorts
I love this and seeing this short will never get old to me. To me I think this film is something anyone can relate. The lightbulb represents something that was broken and needed to be fix. Though he wanted a chance to fix everything, he couldn't. In the end you see her fix it by herself which showed you that in life things will get better.
This made me think of all the promises we made that never got fulfilled..
i dont linger i dont move on right away either,i love the memories and yet the newness on moving on deeply both at the same time.
i saw this as a child and i didnt understand this video at all... but all these years later, im 25 now and revisiting my old fav wong fu films after a long time and this film makes all the sense in the world. i loved it
Came back and watched this short again because Philip mentioned it on his Instagram. Watching this was so nostalgic as it reminded me of all the times I spent in Taiwan around the time this was filmed. So thankful that Philip is Taiwanese American and captured the mood of the place from back then.
That is deep! So many feels though. Good job!
Can you guys make part 2 because it really good and I wonder what will happen next.
Every now and then, I return to this video and re-watch it. Looking at this, I can't help but reminisce of the times or places I've been to with a girl I used to date so many years ago. I wonder what I should or shouldn't have said, what I should or shouldn't have done. I can't change the past, all I can hope for is that I can be the best I can in the future, and cherish whatever time I have with whom I have.
this will always be one of my tops faves from Wong Fu
yeyyyy Taiwan :D nice to know that someone else comes from there too ^-^
omg so boss watched the whole thing without looking at subs
This is still one of my all time favourite wong fu short films, it still holds up today!
This is one of my favorite vids from Wong Fu Productions. Such meaning!!!
That guy is a jerk
He reminds me of every FOB guy I've ever met.
"SOME TRY TO FORGET, SOME TEND TO DWELL, BUT WILL DO NEIGTHER" THIS IS THE VERY LINE FROM VIDEO WHICH HELPED TO TO MOVE ON WITH MY LIFE AFTER I BROKE UP AFTER A LONG TERM RELATIONSHIP!! LITERALLY CHANGED MY LIFE! THNX WONGFU!

I'm going back to Taiwan in a week! Best feeling ever. Thank you Wong Fu for making us this lovely short.
the girL is so pretty
I miss the old WongFu.
this!!
every time i come back to this the music gets me
Watching this again after 3 years, and I'm crying just as much
good fucking god I miss Taiwan
mee too :(
Sooo she didn't let him in?
i think nope
+awkwardpandasmile "some people forget and some dwell" if she didnt do both = she remembered and didnt dwell. Hence she still grudged and didnt let him in.
For me, I think she let go of the grudge already. She definitely did not try to forget or erase it from her life. Instead, she learned to accept it which leads to a better future (as opposed to unhealthy dwelling or simply forgetting) symbolized by her fixing the broken light at the end. It's unclear whether her choice was (1. open the door) to let him in her life again as a sign of her acknowledging his change or (2. close the door) moving on to new and better things in life which does not necessarily mean that she held a grudge (though still possible). IMO, I think she forgave him BUT closed the door on him cause she wants to move on.
Tbh, I like the mystery in Wong Fu shorts like this. Other people can have their own personal interpretations on the story with this kind of open-ended style.
i always come back to this one...
I can definitely relate to this video... I love all of these short films!
This makes me want to go back to Taiwan...
I love the shorts in mandarin!
my fav wongfu short
2019 and i came back to see it again .... this time it hit me ... probarly becuase i understand it and I'm going thru it .
Okay, I don't get the ending. Did she fix the relationship? Did she let him in?
New lightbulb, new light in her life. But she won't forget about the burnt out one.
I hope my ex realizes this too :( he never wanted to go anywhere with me
Still one of my most favorite short films ever. There's something about it that brings me back here once in awhile.
sighh i do love these shorts you guys do 😍😍😍
Taiwan for life
+Bryan Lin Coincidentally I'm living in Kaohsiung right now, at Taiwan for a vacation and to visit relatives :3
wait so does this mean she didnt take him back im a bit confused
I kinda miss wong fu productions when it was like this 2 or so years back *Please come back*
I love Wong Fu Production~
Loved it.
It made me sad how he didnt want to go to the places and left the girl alone. Nonetheless I still love the movie
#oldfavorites
The ending really confused me, can someone explain it??
Me too!
To me it seems as though she is neither going to forget the the memories of their relationship or reflect on what they once were. She has accepted its conclusion and found resolve to move on
beautiful yet simple story. keep on writing and directing phillip
best short ever! keep going wong fu! :D
so she chose not to let him in right?
aw
well thx anyway
Nanako Fukuda ...........
