I agree that his Masters collection is far superior to his other work with all its sci-fi goodness, but I disagree that’s it inappropriate to reference poverty when designing luxury. Upon seeing photos of his inspirations for his other work i think it’s translated very well through his eye for cut and color (and as a designer myself I felt most inspired while working at a gas/petrol station, often the best looks were worn by the homeless/less fortunate as they are sometimes forced to “accessorize” and unintentionally are pushed to blend second hand luxury into a functional look)
Recreating homeless looks for hundreds of dollars is pretty gross tho. Like what Demna is doing. I think those looks can be done for really cheap and it feels less gross when you thrift for like combat boots, distressed denim, worn out tees and jackets. Like the unsound rags look.
Also when people can't recognize what the reference is and buy into cause it's hype and trendy makes it even worse

I think it depends really, it can be done tastefully and not so tastefully, I personally didn't find his BA collection too reminiscent of the book he referenced but I guess that's all up to opinion!

impractically practical for impractically good looking and impractically unreliable when it comes to saving money type of clothing for exactly that type of people.
The inspiration for this collection was Jabba the hutt
I have to disagree with the 700; it is clean and unique and keeps the brand signatures present but not dominating.
So much more cohesive than then puma and whatnot; the colors are bright and work well together. Can be worn with most anything and was right on trend (dad shoes). Mix of textures, aesthetics and functionality is killer.
Also, noting his desire to develop and innovate with/on fabrics, perhaps Stone Island could be a great next step for him?
Or Arc’Teryx, if he’s REALLY desiring function over all, or seeking to refine his creation/style.
I'm thinking that in Nov 2022 if he still doesn't think the 700 is a special design and iconic, then I'm shook. The 700 not only has a timeless look, it was designed at the perfect time for the market.

When the clothing is that oversized then it isn’t really utility anymore. If he shrinks the clothes down a bit they can actually be useful and will probably look better imo.

Nice video but expecting someone's sketches to be hyper-realistic is just absurd. It's like expecting the first draft of a script for a youtube video to specify when to inhale the breath throughout the whole video. It's supposed to be light-hearted and fast.
I don’t expect all fashion drawings to be hyper realistic I know that it’s difficult to do and a lot of work as I said. But I do find a lot of value in them when it comes to visualising what the clothes might actually look like in contrast to more stylised takes. But again most people won’t do them because it is difficult so I just wanted to praise ding for doing it
Also I’m not necessarily talking about sketches, sketches are light and fast. I mean like the finalised drawings.
