- Inspired by "The Last Dance," ESPN personalities share their thoughts and memories of Michael Jordan's famous "double nickel" game from 1995, in which MJ -- wearing the unfamiliar No. 45 -- scored 55 points vs. the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden, announcing that he truly was back to his old self after his retirement.

Takes nearly two years off to play baseball, then drops a casual 55 against the reigning ECF champs after like a week 🐐
@TheRealist 811 Mike would still be a Top 3 athlete in today's league. I think Dennis Smith Jr. is the ONLY player in the league who has a higher vert than him lol and that's being conservative.
John Starks was a tough sob...I used to hated him, but he went hard against MJ, respect.
Cristobal Araya - He went from working at a grocery store, bagging for customers and re-stocking shelves at just over $3/hour to being starting PG for the NY Knicks. Respect.
My feelings exactly
He never averaged more than 19 points in a season and he’s only like 6’2”. He was a great 3 point shooter and accurate shooter but the numbers don’t lie. He just wasn’t that good.
@@mikeslemonade Did anyone said anything about how good he was?
Starks was exciting and had heart. I was glad he got to play for my Jazz men but Sloan didn't give him enough minutes.
Stopped Watching NBA when MJ retired.
IM BACK made a lot of people happy ! Got a few more years of vintage MJ
Covid’s been tough on these people. Paul Pierce is living in his car now
These people? You mean people of color ? Maybe trumps America refers to you that way ?
Hilarious
This is why MJ is the GOAT. Just amazing
I think Kareem is the G.O.A.T but sure
I think Lebron is but sure
Allen Clawson Lebron being 3-6 in the NBA finals. Including a total flame out in 2011 is not the GOAT. MJ is the clear GOAT 6-0 in Finals and 6 Finals MVP's to go with it. 10 scoring titles to Lebron's 1. MJ 9 1st all defensive teams. Vs Lebron's 5.
@@edmandell3064 keep holdin the line. mj =goat.
Niko Gambino Your so right. Lebron has no creative basketball moves. Look at Larry, Magic, Kobe ...and the GOAT MJ. How many highlights do they have? I can't think of one ..."remember when LeBron did that moment"
That was his older bro Larry’s number.. he said reason he wore 23 was cause he felt he was only half the man his brother was!
go get-her! That would be 46
Dr. Phil obviously he couldn’t wear 22 1/2...
I was a kid, but I will never forget walking into the Bodega and seeing that big 55 on the cover of the Daily News 😂😂🤣🤣
MJ is just too grateful on the court
His efficiency is out of this world also
I remember watching this game and the. going to gym for hours working on a fade-away.
Greeny took those 10 racks and himself a drink lol
Say what you want about John Starks. He was a GREAT defender, and probably did the best against MJ (maybe Joe Dumars also). The GOAT makes all defenders look bad, like he was playing against a bunch of high school kids.
42brownbomber
That’s what MJ did, he made decent defenders look like “scrubs” and great defenders look “average”. Young kids who dislike MJ and/or love LBJ confuse that with “oh he was just playing weak competition, they weren’t defenders”.
thank you mike wilbon for your final statement
Imagine in 96 season if Pip didn't have his ankle injury and Rodman played for 82 games... They could've won at least 4 more games. 3 of those 1-pt difference in their losses, they could've won those..
I remember when Dennis headbutted the referee and thrown out of the game. Hahaha! Crazy! MJ, without Pip and Rodman had to do the defensive duties of both aside from scoring. They won. He scored 37 pts and grabbed 16 rebounds.
Brave Fart Pip ain't have no ankle injury in 96.
There are what-if's for every single competition ever.
@@tommyisrael6038 the fact still remains, he was injured
never liked BBall growing up in LI NY til people in Jr High 89’ kept talking for a couple of years about a player named Michael Jordan . Took me two years to finally give in and watch my first Bball game . and it was with Michael Jordan.. .pretty awesome 😎
Man those were some good times watching Jordan play when he came back from retirement!
I was 14 and glued to the TV. Growing up in the Bronx rocking the Knicks 🤦🏽♂️. We hated Jordan.
"WHEN I COME BACK LIKE JORDAN WEARIN THE 4-5. IT AIN'T TO PLAY GAMES WITH YOU!"
Analysts are calling for 25 games to restart the season before playoffs. Some of the same analyst claim MJ wasn't rusty after 17 games after not playing for 18 months. Even Penny said he was rusty in the playoffs that year.
From chitown he was rusty. Just had one of them muscle memory games
His been a year in baseball before he go back to bball
Jalen Davis
What’s hilarious is those same ones saying MJ wasn’t rusty after missing 18 months of basketball gave LBJ a pass after coming back from an injury feeling healthy last year when he missed the playoffs.
Grew up in Chicago...when Mike retired it was like a blow to the whole city
But then he was playing baseball so it was a weird kinda thing where he was still in the news all the time
Then...”I’m Back”
And then we started winning chips again. It was so commonplace it was expected. As long as Mike was playing we were getting that chip. When he left Chicago I stopped watching basketball
Same here. I still live in Chicqgo area. I remember the feeling when MJ retired. What a depressing time for chicago. I stopped watching basketball. But when MJ came back, man what a good feeling.
45 was Jordan first favorite number in high school and his big brother Larry was wearing it and so Jordan took 23 because it was haft of 45
Kingsley Jackson lol haft
It was his hs number but cool story
I was so efficient at using the VCR back then, I watched 164 Bulls games a year. Thank you Rod Thorn.
I just realised how things got changed from awesome to today
I was 24 years old, time flies.
I saw that game just turned 14 couple days before
3:05 🤑🤑🤑🤑🤑 Greenberg countin greens!
Crazy athletic prowess and insane fundamental skills. GOAT??
no question marks after that word bro
Completely right my men
I had forgot about Nick Anderson making that statement in the playoffs and Michael Jordan un-retiring the number 23. Nick Anderson messed it up.
MJ doing MJ moves haha 3:40
"Perfect" on The BIGGEST stage going "6-0" in Finals and Finals MVP all "6" Times...NEVER allowed a game 7 in ANY of those 6 Finals series...Beat more 60+ Wins Teams in Playoffs/Title runs than any other player in History...5 Time reg Season MVP..."10" Time Scoring Champion in "15" Years...Played PG for 15 games and averaged "33/11/11"...Only player in HISTORY to Win MVP/Slam dunk Contest/Steals Leader/All star game MVP/Defensive player of Year/Scoring Champion all in the SAME year!! joe chrow, AMEN brother, preach to these non believers and let them know!!!😂
Well if old successful white men wore his shoes than he is obviously #1
As a kid double nickel game was so much fun to watch. Watching MJ play basketball and scoring at will was like watching the 8th or 9th wonder of the world.
Omg i love you guys so much but mostly curry and i wish he could see this
Hannah said people would pay thousands of dollars to see Michael Jordan destroy their team! Lol so true! They hated him and couldn't take their eyes off him
That chick was really hating on Starks though. LOL!
55 shooting 2's
Wilbon! I hear you!
Air Jordan has said this so many times and is in his video Michael Jordan above and beyond, that his father had only seen him play basketball in 23 and it would be good to change it as a new beginning. He was also using 45 as his number in baseball.
I read a long time ago how he wanted to wear number 45 bc he wanted to be half as good as his brother.
Love Paul!
It would have been nice to get a point of view from the people who were there... This would have been perfect
that John Starks ankle breaker is so nasty.
The bigger the stage and brighter the lights, the more Jordan wanted to put on a show. And there was no bigger, brighter stage to Jordan than his birthplace. NYC.
He wore the no.45 because he just returned from retirement and it held sentimental reasons related to his father.
He also stated that the no.45 is the 1st number her wore growing up and playing the game.
Greatest. Period.
45 is Mike's baseball number, plus they retired his his 23 jersey in Chicago in 1994!! That's why in the playoff series against Orlando was fined for wearing his 23 jersey!!
I know some man that dropped 61 in that same arena 🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐
Often imitated, never duplicated!!! You know who the real goat is!!!!!
I know someone who dropped 63 in the playoffs against the Celtics and set a new nba record while the one who scored 61 in the garden neve did that.
Never seen these guys fawn over a pass out of a double team before in my life
What's that colorful band over Jalen's shoulder?
45 was his number in high school
I hated John Starks too... I actually hated the Knicks really the whole team lol.
Footwork 101.
The 45 was his baseball number!!!
7:05 What's going on below the camera there Jalen?!? 😆
Evan Knupp lmao fo real
wow wilbon telling the truth, quit showing current nba games an start showing the real nba. 8:40
current nba is a glorified rec league compared to the 80s n 90s nba.
These young Lebron fans have no idea how tough the league was in those days.
It’s so true ! Totally agree with you !
the LeMedia is so desperate right now 🤣🤣🤣🤣
@@MrKing8050 You're LeRight! Lol
How anyone can watch MJ play and not think he’s the GOAT should quit basketball.
The pass to win it....
Amazing!!!!!
THANK YOU MICHAEL WILBON FOR YOUR LAST COMMENT. WELL SAID!!!!!!!
You can tell most of these people weren’t watching
Knicks had a squad back then. Could have arguably won two championships if Jordan was not there.
Double Nickel is absurd, the WOAT nick name.
Michael Jordan had to wear number 45 because 23 was retired. he switched back to the number 23 during the playoffs against the Orlando magic and was fined every game he wore number 23...
What goes around comes around wilbon...🤔
I need you to remember one thing, one thing. I came, I saw, I conquered.
I lived to watch the bulls that was my all time favorite basketball team not the city but the players it was surgical how they beat teams even when they played uninspired you knew they still had a chance to win. I absolutely hate today’s game I don’t watch it especially how the stars join forces to win a ring the worship of Lebron when to me he doesn’t deserve it.
Please let Anthony Davis wear #23 next season for the Lakers. 😀😀😀
he wore 45 because 23 was retired.
They are young. 😀😀😀
1979 was better.
Ya'll millenials gonna learn after this last dance!
A word of truth sir. There's nothing like 90s basketball.
They gone learn today.
Who is Cassidy Hubbarth and why should I care what she thinks about anything, let alone 90’s basketball?
AGAIN they find a way to insert Bron in this
Cassidy is fine.
Which one's Cassidy?
What's wrong is Pippen had 1 of the greatest dunks ever in this game and everybody wants to worship Jordan. And he actually said that man was being selfish.
For that series pippen scored 21ppg on 40% that dunk was his only highlight of the series
Stop talking and let me watch the God of basketball play!!!!
4:38 in today's game John Starks would've been called for the foul xD haha soft league these days
This was the game when everyone said Jordan was "back"...... Right up until they lost to Orlando and then it was back to he wasn't really "back" and that wasn't the "real" Jordan so it didn't eeally count.
Joseph Johnroe
That’s a testament of how great MJ is, he still played great even though he was clearly rusty. Even former Magic players attested to this, Penny mentioned this recently.
Crazy how the same ones who think he wasn’t rusty for missing 18 months of basketball are the same ones excusing LBJ for missing the playoffs last year. Talking about how he wasn’t in “basketball shape” or “still coming off an injury”. “Give him a break” cries.
Crazy.
Im the first one and i just wont to say that everybody is amazing call me
Ok bro. What's your award for being first 😅
You have to post this in your social media.
greeny is a Lebron guy...not sure why he is boasting Jordan these days
ok...... but no one talks about when BRANDON JENNINGS DROPPED 55 AGAINST GOLDEN STATE AS A ROOKIE
One game doesn't make greatness, a career, or commitment to memory. Jennings avg 14 ppg in his NINE year career, mean while his Airness avg 28 ppg his ROOKIE season (30 for career) and dropped 63 on the reigning world champs Boston IN THE PLAYOFFS as a rookie ( I remember dat). All players can have a moment, and you can't take that away from him, but it's just a record for the BUCKS. 3 Championships and 55 in the garden after 2 years off, in his NINTH year, REALLY!!!!!!!!!!.
He scored 55, 5, 5 but they make the excuse that he wasn’t in shape against the Magic when he lost.
He wasn't. Just having a bomb game doesn't mean you're completely back. He had a standout game of 55. You might look at that like thats a major deal but he was doing that regularly before he left so that's why this game sticks out the way it does.... and if you listen to Penny's interview with Colin Cowherd. He pretty much says it.
Penny even said playing Jordan he was still rusty, and knew they had taken advantage of it
Wisconsin badger
Yea man but that’s Penny, you shouldn’t listen to him. Listen to Shannon, Nick Wright guys like that or any LBJ fans and MJ haters...
O he didn't win the championship this year. . But nobody speaks of this...
LeBron carried the cavaliers to a ring without real help goat
Get drug tested
Top Dog then why he wanted Kyrie back when he lost to golden state when he had the chance to carry the cavs, Kyrie won that championship
Top Dog
Imagine thinking averaging 27 ppg as a second option in the finals, which is the most ever by a second option in finals history isn’t “real help”...
@42brownbomber most Def bro
So when MJ passes to a player for a win open look its an amazing display of basketball IQ but when LeBron does it he doesn't have a killer instinct, MJ would have taken the shot? Logic
Because it's not about the pass but him always coming up with clutch shots at the most crucial moments. Unlike LeFlop who passes out of fear, the same fear he had when he didn't participate in the dunk contest. What if I lose? It would make me look bad. That's LeFlop for you. That's why, despite being on stacked teams, he lost not 1, not 2, not 3 not 4 but 6 times in the finals. And that's why MJ is undefeated in the finals. Stop bringing up LeFlop when you're talking about the GOAT MJ. It's disrespectful.
@news flash what super star teams did lebron have? List all the superstars he had I wanna compare it with mj
Jordan don't pass for shyt. He shot the ball 37 times to get 55 shots. And only had 2 assist. BJ Armstrong was 4 for 5. And Pip was 7 for 12. But as usual it has to be all about Jordan
@Tube Tube that's not basketball. That's why he can't win with any great player
Truth!
