  • Join me for this local history documentary vlog exploring and examining what remains of the properties on Low Moor's School Fold. This is a Bradford street with no road and no houses. Is this unique or do you know of any other such street in Bradford? What is the history of these houses, do you remember them, lived in them or visited somebody who lived in School Fold? Please let me know all about it in the comments. I would love to get a description of the houses and who lived here. I hope you enjoy this historical vlog and if you want more information about this street join my "Dodger's Trips" Facebook group.

      Just shows there's history around every corner. It was good fun exploring. Even watching the video back myself I'm noticing things that I didn't when I was walking around. Getting some interesting info coming in about the houses and people who lived there.

    There were only 2 Property's on the Land One was Tiny on the approach down down School Fold that used to house the Farmhand at what was Morrells farm Fifty yards further down Abb Scott Lane . The other is where my Mum's friend Lived which were Dolly and Gordon Briggs . The front of the Bungalow faced towards Royds Hall Dam, the Garden was a beautiful Little Cottage Garden , the House itself was very uneven to walk on , although I never Ventured into any other part of the House , although they must have been more than One Bedroom because they had Two Son's at least. One of them still Lives Locally , there was another Stone Built Outbuilding to the Right Looking towards the Dam that had their Dog In, Which was a Huge Black Thing that used to stand on it's Hind Leg's to Bark at Visitors to the house, I alway's thought it was a Bear ( I was about 6 or 7 Years Old ) . If you Need anymore info Let me know

      That is fabulous information Nigel. Thank you for sharing it. I would love to read anything else that you can remember. I know others are watching the comments and are interested too.
      A lady has also mentioned Mrs Briggs and that her mother would buy flowers from her that she had grown. The dog sounds scary. You've given me a very good idea of the layout and it was interesting about the uneven floor. It makes sense that there were only two houses going purely on the size of the boundary walls.
      I shall have to pay a second visit.

    There is a proposal to build up to 182 homes on this area including the field up to the dam. So perhaps it's a good job you went investigating when you did! I found your video very interesting as I've lived quite local all my life, my doctor's is at the bottom of the road, I lead walks in the area and was even leading a walk down Abb Scott Lane passing this point two nights ago, but I knew nothing of School Fold! Wish I'd seen the video earlier, we would have gone investigating then. I will do soon though. Thank you for posting. Just the sort of thing I enjoy, though I can't be of help to you.

    • @DodgersTrips

      I really enjoyed reading your post Muriel. Thank you for watching the video and I'm so glad you enjoyed it. There has been workmen doing some drainiage work on that land fora couple of weeks now so maybe the building work is imminent.
      As you lead walks I wonder if you may be interested in my Harold Park video and also the biography of Frank Milligan (the first England cricketer to be killed on military service) whose memorial stands in the rose garden. That is an in-depth study of his life and was filmed at St. Mark's Church, Park Bottom, Harold Park and I was allowed access to the grounds of Royds Hall.

      Hi Muriel, I forgot to mention that somebody has posted overhead photos from when the cottages were lived in on my Facebook group. There is also some information how the building started life as a barn , was then used as a Wesleyan chapel before being converted into dwellings.

    • @murieloflaherty9890
      @murieloflaherty9890 Před 5 měsíci +1

      Thanks for both your comments. I'll follow them through. I think the planning for houses is at an early stage, and there are various objections. So it's wait and see. The drainage work could well be linked.@@DodgersTrips

    I've been told that a Mrs Briggs lived in one of the cottages. One of her sons still lives just a little further up. The lady who shared this told me that her mother used to buy flowers from Mrs Briggs that she had grown.

    Wow fascinating but also sad that they were lived in up till about 40yrs ago & left to rack & ruin, expecially the lovely cottage garden! I bet if you go back a bit later in the month there will be flowers that were planted all those years ago.

      Hello great to hear from you again. Somebody told me that there is planning permission for over a hundred houses on that land but no application had yet been submitted. That is a good idea about going back maybe May/June time and see if anything does still come through.

    I remember it as a lived in house probably in the 1980s , would like to know how it ended up as a ruin. what happened to the family that lived there and who owns the land,

      Interesting to learn one of the boys lives nearby. I wonder what he makes of his old home. Thanks for your remembrance of the house being lived in during the 1980s. Why did the family leave? Maybe the property was in a bad condition. Were they forced to leave? Like you I would like to know more. Thanks for adding your bit Jason. I hope you enjoyed the film.

      It's lovely to know that you enjoyed the video Victoria, Thanks very much for watching and taking the time to post your comment. We got quite a lot of info aboiut the building on my Dodger's Trips FB group, some old pictures and newspaper cuttings. It appears that it started life as a barn then became a chapel before becoming dwellings.

    Another lady has shared her remembrance of the cottages: Gordon & Dolly Briggs lived there, they had 2 sons, Michael & Ian. I grew up on Abb Scott Lane and spent many happy hours and days in those cottages. They were lovely and Mr Briggs always kept his garden beautifully.

    Ive drove past this many times and never seen it. Anyone out there have any photos or info on the cricket ground that use to be adjacent to the bulmer & lumb factory that would be good to see.
    Great information Dodger 👍

      There's been quite a bit of information about the School Fold buildings and their occupants since the video went out. There are a few photos & maps on my FB group going back to when it ws a barn, then a chapel before becoming dwellings. As for the cricket field near Bulmer's maybe worth trying Woodside FB group. Thanks for watching the video and posting your comment. I hope you get a response.

      That's really interesting. Thank you for sharing that, I will be taking a look. It defintiely does make you wonder why.

    • @DodgersTrips
      @DodgersTrips  Před 5 měsíci

      I noticed on street view that there is green spray paint on the sign. I wonder if this was deliberate and maybe it acts to blur out on Street View or a signal to google to do that. It clearly didn't impact my filming.

    • @litterpicker1431
      @litterpicker1431 Před 5 měsíci +1

      @@DodgersTrips I think that's probably coincidental. Street view images of the sign from various years and from various angles are sometimes clear, with paint, sometimes clear and (prior to 2016) without paint, and sometimes blurred. Sometimes it is the sign on the right which is blurred, and sometimes the sign on the left. There doesn't seem to be any consistent pattern.
      🤷‍♀

    My grandma lives a few doors down on abb Scott, dolly used to live in the little cottage. I remember me and my grandma went round at times and she said there was a rabbit in her garden and if we could catch it we could keep it, I named it Dixie 🥹 it used to be 4 cottages but then went into 2 and originally it used to be a school x

    • @DodgersTrips
      @DodgersTrips  Před 3 měsíci

      Thank you so much for taking time to share your stories, they are very interesting. I have found out that the building was originally a barn then had use as a chapel and school. As I suspected there were then 4 separate dwellings which changed into just the two. The other one was occupied by a farm labourer. I hope you enjoyed the film and thanks for watching.
