Getting a Craftsman 9" Band saw working (Not really a restoration)

- I was given 2 different 9 inch band saws. One is a Craftsman brand. I had to replace the "tires" or bands on the 2 wheels. I also replaced the air hose that blows dust away from the work. The other band saw is also a 9" Pro-Tech bandsaw.

Thanks for the vid. Much appreciated!
You're welcome. Thanks for watching and commenting. It is appreciated.
Thanks for making this video. I have the same model saw and one of the tires just broke. I searched for the replacement part and learned it was discontinued. I was about to go buy a new saw, but I decided to search for a third-party tire that would fit the Craftsman, and that's when I stumbled onto your video. I'll give it a try, but if it works, I'll be a little disappointed that I lost an excuse to buy a new power tool.
Sometimes a good excuse messes up a good tool purchase. Or do like I do and use that money to buy a different tool. :)
I don't use my saw a lot but it is still working well. Those bands were tight even with heating them up but they will go.
Glad my video helped. That was what started me making CZcams videos. So many people helped me I thought maybe I could help someone else.
The good part about this saw was that it was free so buying the bands was worth the try. The air line was dry rotted too when I got it and I put new line in it as well.
Take care and let me know how the new bands work.
I just installed a conversion kit in my 9 inch band saw to slow it down for cutting steel and then I got a steel blade and it cuts like a dream
That is cool. I didn't know that was possible. I will look into that option and try it on that other band saw. Thanks
@forge grandadz what kit would that be if you dont mind
what kind of kit? name? link? I'm interested in it. thanks.
Would you do a video on how to adjust the belt tension and alignment
I can try to work on that next time I get in the shop to do some videos. Been so busy lately with regular work and family that I have not been out there in a while. Hopefully soon though.
would you have a wire diagram for the craftsman bandsaw
I don't believe I have anything that shows the wiring. If I see one though I will reply back to you
Good informative video. I have the saw also.
Now go get some rest.
Thank you for watching. I am still using it. I don't need it often but it comes in handy. :)
What does the top red one wing collar do (the one under the tension knob)? Supposed to be a quick adjusting collar, but it runs free when turned. Don’t want to break anything by putting too much pressure on it. Do you know?
Can you tell me what developed means on your saw and is this model something you would still recommend?
The developed 1/2 hp, from what I understand, means this would be ultimate max amount of hp you can get out of this. (I read one place that this is the amount just before the motor burns up.) And most likely it would never hit that hp. Another place said you can figure it out by multiplying the values on the motor and then dropping it by 20 to 30 percent to get the real HP.
If I was buying this now that I have used it some I would probably find a better one. I have adjusted it a bunch but it still sometimes cuts crooked. It could be "user" error. ;) If I was going to be doing a lot of wood working I would probably spend a little more. But this was free so that is a good price for me. And it could be the blade I bought. I just don't know enough about them in general. This is the first one I ever used. Overall I like it and it works for the little I use it. I hope that helps some.
Do you know the model number of this band saw? I bought on just like it and it doesn’t have a model number
I will try to get you the model number. It may take me some time so please check back and I will try to tag you so you should get a notification. I just had a knee replaced 3 weeks ago and it might be a little while before I can walk down the hill to my shop. But I will get the model number and post it for you. Thank you for watching.
Gary
@@GaryForgingOn okay thanks
I checked the bandsaw and I could not find a model number anywhere other than on the motor. Which is a sears motor and model number 134.214130 but I looked in the door and around the entire unit and all I could find is the main name that it is Craftsman 1/2hp 9 inch band saw. Unless the model number is underneath it then I could not get there because it is bolted down to a stand.
Sorry that I could not find more information. I found the tires for it just using the name, if that helps.
Mr. Gary wich one is the model of tire to order a new one.
I don't have the manual.
Thanks.
I order this set from Amazon.
I had to put them in hot water for a while. They give you a cheap screwdriver with a plastic tube over the tip to protect the tires. And you use it to work the tire around the wheel.

Thanks!
Happy Thanksgiving👍
I just got one of these for $150 used, but barely used. Is that a fair price? I know it's probably not an incredibly good price, but at least fair? Also thank you for the video! I'm always grateful for knowledge and expertise freely shared.
I think that is a decent price in really good condition. Are the bands around the wheels dry rotted? I know you can buy new off brands for that price but I would rather have a craftsman.
I'm glad I could help. That was why I started my channel. I would watch others for help and to learn and thought maybe I could help someone else out.
@@GaryForgingOn Thanks for the reply! The bands are yellow but not cracking, so I'm guessing they'll be good for a while still. I also noticed the table could not go level, so I added washers as spacers under a couple of the bolts to fix that. Honestly struggling immensely with blade drift, so lots to learn for me.
Is your wheel a little wobbly because I have the same one but I can’t get it to stop wobbling and it makes the blade fall off from the wobbling
No, mine run straight and do not wobble at all. I am not sure if those are attached with bushings or bearings. They could be worn or the shaft bent. Tough to say.
I just saw one of these at a pawn shop. How tall of a piece of wood can you cut on this?
I will have to measure that when I am out in the shop and get back to you on the height. From memory I think it was around 4 inches but I will find out for sure. Thanks for asking.
Sorry, another question. Does it bog down at all when you are using it?
It has not bogged much. I have a wider blade and when it does bind on me is when I am trying to cut a straight line on something and it gets in a curve and then it starts binding up some. I think I need to work on keeping the cut straight. I only use it for small cuts so far. I hope to use it more soon. Thanks
@@GaryForgingOn Thanks for getting back to me so fast! It looks well built. I don't like how everything is made of plastic these days.
Get organized before turning the camera on and get to the point. No one cares where you got the saw. Get to the point.
Thank you for your input. I am continually learning and will keep this in mind.
I did care where you got the saw. Personally I think it was the best part of the video.
