Crochet Snowman Ornament Tutorial!!

- Learn how to crochet these adorable snowmen ornaments for Christmas! Make a bunch to give away and be sure to make a few more to keep for yourself! Full free pattern below...
What you'll need:
4-ply worsted weight yarn in white, red and black (I used Caron Simply Soft Party and am NOT sponsored by them)
size H (5mm) crochet hook
thread and needle
scissors
PolyFil
3D fabric paint (puffy paint) in black, orange, red and green
ribbon or cording for hanging
Body:
R1: in a magic ring or 2nd ch from a beg ch2, 6sc, Join in first sc, ch1, here and throughout (6 sts) (2:16)
R2: 2sc in each st of previous rnd. Join. (12 sts) (4:35)
R3: 2 sc in next st, sc in next st around (6 times). Join. (18 sts) (5:17)
R4: 2 sc in next st, sc in each of next 2 sts around (6 times). Join. (24 sts) (6:15)
R5-8: sc in each st around. Join. (24 sts) (7:08)
R9: 2 sc tog, sc in each of next 2 sts around (6 times). Join. (18 sts) (7:50)
R10: 2 sc tog, sc in next st around (6 times). Join. (12 sts) (9:58)
R11: 2 sc tog around. Join. (6 sts) (10:52)
R12: 2 sc in each st around. Join. (12 sts) (12:29)
R13: 2 sc in next st, sc in next st around (6 times). Join. (18 sts) (13:15)
R14-15: sc in each st around. Join. (18 sts) (14:00)
R16: 2 sc tog, sc in next st around (6 times). Join. (12 sts) (14:21)
Fill or stuff body with PolyFil or stuffing of choice.
R17: 2 sc tog around. Join. (6 sts) (16:15)
Fasten off and weave in ends.
Scarf: (19:13)
sc chainless foundation of 25 (OR: ch 26, sc in 2nd st from hook and in each stitch to the end). Fasten off. Attach 3 pieces of additional yarn to each end for fringe. Trim off excess. Tie around snowman body.
Hat: (23:10)
R1: in a magic ring or 2nd ch from a beg ch2, 6sc, Join in first sc, ch1, here and throughout (6 sts) (23:30)
R2: 2sc in each st of previous rnd. Join. (12 sts) (24:47)
R3: sc in each stitch around in BACK LOOPS ONLY (12 sts) (25:08)
R4-6: sc in each stitch around (12sts)
R7: 2 sc in next st, sc in next st around in FRONT LOOPS ONLY (6 times). Join. (18 sts) (26:30)
R8: 2 sc in next st, sc in each of next 2 sts around (6 times). Join. (24 sts) (27:24)
Fasten off and weave in ends.
Sew hat onto top of body and attach hanger with thread or cording. Using puffy paint, paint on eyes, carrot nose, mouth, front buttons, holly leaves and berries.

I finally made one. I found this very easy to follow, and the snowman turns out to be a very cute size! I used yarn to make all the buttons, eyes and nose. Thank you!

I loved your chatter! I am doing one now! I prefer front loops only with decreasing. Your way is the way I learned! My way is because I have arthritic fingers...too much yarn! I think this is the best snowman ornament tutorial I have ever watched on CZcams. Thanks for providing great instructions and ideas for using the puffy paint. These went over well at a craft show and little extra gifts. Also nice on a package with the wrapping. Great job.

luckily I'm an accomplished crocheter or i wouldn't know what to do....the glare from the light on the white wool completely blocks out the item being crocheted ...however....fantastic verbal instruction, I was able to follow along even though I couldn't see what you were doing....thumbs up ..

Thank you for this amazing ornament! I stuffed the bottom before the final decrease round, same for the top. I also stitched buttons, eyes and nose before closing. Love the concept! Thanks again.

If you wanted to, for the eyes, mouth and buttons, you could make them using French knots. 🙂 Just another option if you don't have fabric paint. You could crochet a red chain and clue that around the hat. 🙂

I wonder, though, if you might redo this specific video, and not have the light be so bright, or you working so close to the camera. Cute little snowman - great tutorial on how you describe the steps - my only complaint is that there is too much light on your close-ups - either use a different yarn colour (which obviously cannot since it is a snowman) or turn off some lighting - it gets difficult to see when you are up close with too much lighting. Other than that - love the snowman, great explanation on tutorial but lighting is bad. Tks for sharing your pattern and talent.
