    This was the first long-form program edited on an Avid Media Composer. I was fortunate enough to be the editor and I can tell you it was a blessing and a curse. To be honest, the software really wasn't ready for a project of this length. On the other hand, I would have been almost impossible without non-linear technology.

    During the "Heidi" game, I was on the air as a disc jockey at a radio station in Texas. I got a call on our request line from someone who had been watching the game and wanted to know the final score. I asked, "Didn't you see it?" The caller angrily said, "No, they changed the program." I thought he meant someone in his house turned the channel. I went back to the UPI news wire and got the score and gave it to the guy on the phone. It wasn't until the next day that I learned NBC had screwed up and cut the game off before it ended.

    One glaring omission was the talents of Keith Jackson, he covered a plethora of sports and was excellent at all of them.

    • @ciAMkia
      @ciAMkia Před 7 měsíci

      Keith Jackson was the first play-by-play announcer on Monday Night Football, I believe.
      Regardless, Keith Jackson was a great announcer of all sports.
      Being able to see some of these great sports announcers was such
      a thrill for me because I grew up watching them call these games that were so important to me.
      Jim McKay, Curt Gowdy, Howard Cosell, Frank Gifford, Dandy Don Meredith, Pat Sumerall, Brent Musberger, Phyllis George, Bill Macatee, Jim Nantz, etc.
      Plus seeing Jackie Robinson stealing home, was astonishing!

      Howard burnt a lot of bridges and hurt a lot feelings by his ego or his book, by his end. I would think HBO didn’t want to cause any friction with any of the other hosts by having him on. If he even wanted to be on it.

    I am so glad that they included the late, great Chris Schenkel as one of the greatest announcers of all time. I was afraid that he would not be given his place among the greats because he spent a large part of his later career years doing bowling, which had plummeted in terms of popularity. But make no mistake, he was a world class announcer long before that.
