    First off, a dyno is a tool for tuning. It's all about what you came in with vs what you left with (under the curve gains, etc). There are many different filters you can view the data with, and variables to consider. One dyno could say you make 400hp, another 350... it would still run the same 1/4 mile and trap speed. Stage 1 is probably 13s @ 103-107 mph car in the 1/4. It's a fun car, and I am considering getting another one for a DD. Don't get too caught up on dyno numbers people, that's for people who like to stand around parking lots and measure each other's genitals.

    • @Osprey1994

      I kinda agree and I kinda disagree, % gain over stock is more important but actually meeting power estimates is also important. If a company is dating 300+ whp and they are only getting 270 that would be a major issue. So the fact it's with 10-15hp of the estimate is awesome.

Said if something major happens VW sees it when they plug in your ECU now where as in the past they couldn't. For between $1250-$1600 I think he said at VW they will Warranty the APR install straight form the dealer. Thought that might be some useful knowledge for anyone considering tuning. Back in the day I was in a mustang ( a stock 305 hp 5.0 ), it was an 89’ gt ), it threw my head back at take off..
    I just bought a gti, picking it up Monday morning and have a stage 1 apr tube scheduled for Monday afternoon.
    They are guaranteeing a minimum of 90 horsepower increase and stock it sits at 236.
    It’s an autobahn model.
    1. Will the stage 1 tune truly have that much of a gain where it’s felt that drastically?
    2. Without hardware upgrades such as clutch, Cold air intake and an exhausted system will the gains be sustainable ? Meaning will my vehicle be subject to increased wear and tear ?
    I’ve heard that even with a stage 1 tune the clutch can slip occasionally…

    Most of the top Stage 1 tunes show about 80 - 90 HP gains over stock. I have a ED Stage 1.5 (basically the high torque version of Stage 1) and get about 310 whp and about 370 TQ. APRs own website shows a Stage 1 tunes being 316hp but this varies by dyno and things like temp and altitude. The reason most people underestimate them is they take the stock number (210) and add the gain (87) and think they're going to be 290 something. The reality is, the non-pp GTIs really back about 215 - 220hp at the wheels, and the PP GTIs are over 230. VW under-rates them for marketing reasons. 87hp gain on 230 is 317 (and when tuning it doesn't matter whether you have the PP or nonPP, you get the same end result). Nice vid. Subbed.

    The dyno sheet actually said engine horsepower (flywheel, unless thats the wheel you’re meaning?)
    319hp at the fly seems correct, as 316 is whats stated by apr in the uk running 98/99 ron (octane) fuel.
    319hp at the wheels seems incorrect as that would ROUGHLY mean about 340/350hp at the engine.
    Also what did it run on the dyno before the tune was fitted as that would let you know how accurate the dyno is.

      It states that Stage 1 is 316bhp and standard is 235bhp (APR Measured). Are you telling me that VW said the Golf GTi MK7 makes 235wbhp standard? Manufacturers give it at crank.

    • @Russellscottx
      @Russellscottx Před 6 lety +9

      They either using a engine dynameter which gives them crank numbers (having the motor out of the car and running it) or they're using a correction formula factoring in friction loss. Either way the dyno we used measures wheel horse power, not crank since it's recording the numbers at the wheels.
