  • I have this floor drain in my shop, it’s from 1955. It was really gross and rusty and I thought, how embarrassing, what if someone sees this? Maybe I'm crazy or just over isolated but this was totally worth it.
Here are links to some of the tools I used in this video:
    Small shank grinding bits: amzn.to/3f94cfc
    Large shank grinding bits: amzn.to/3tObQ2E
    Belt sander: amzn.to/2PoAqbd

Exactly what I was looking for. I never thought I'd ever say this, but that is the most beautiful basement floor drain I've ever seen. I must duplicate! Thanks again for posting!

And I thought my OCD was bad. The drain cover is beautiful. I will do half of the stuff you did and be happy.

After pricing my odd sized drain grate to replace my disgusting one and finding the prices to be astronomical for what it is....I'm so happy I found your vid. I'm totally doing this and I hope I find it just as satisfying. Great job man. I was not sure of the final spray...what was that?

Thank you! The spray was some clear lacquer just to slow down future rust.

Very satisfying to watch. Do you want me to send you my floor drain to restore? I am renting and it looks disgusting. I probably will just go buy a plastic one. God gave you a special talent! 😊

One was enough for me, I think there's a good reason they make plastic ones now :)

This was oddly satisfying. Great work on the floor drain!

By far my favorite video of yours so far. Now you’ve got a drain that’s a real eye catcher.

Thanks! I take a second look every time I walk past the drain...not weird at all right?

What did you spray on the finished product?

You should be proud! Can I mail you mine so you can do it? I do not have the skills or tools to do it. This was a very satisfying video to watch. You should share it on TikTok. Thank you!

I’m so happy you shared this process! I have a similar situation to the previous comment (non-standard drain size) and can’t find a replacement. I just had the concrete floors refinished and the rusty old strainers look extra bad now. I’ll be trying a simplified version of this with the most visible one.
How has yours held up with that spray enamel?

What if you don't have all those machines to clean the drain cup, what do you do?

Move. Or just live with it, whatever is easier.

You need a n95 mask or respirator for throwing off all that rust particulates, like a Chinese worker polishing stainless steel on an iPhone making $2/hour.
