Yes, they look very cute. But there are some big problems with them: lordosis, arthrosis, arthritis, slipped disk. They can also have teeth, lung and hormone problems, so they are at the high risk to get classified as torture breed. They are very often handicapped at jumping with their short legs, some even can`t climb up to a cat tree. A buddy had 3 Munchkin cats, and all died before they were 4 years old. They had to be put asleep due to several health problems, all 3 had rotting teeth (F.O.R.L.) and no happy life since they were 2 years old. Their healty was very weak and caused heavy vet costs. From a serious breeder, they can have a happy life but need more vet checkups than other cat breeds. But a serious breeder would never breed Munchkins on purpose, but sometimes would breed some of them as an "genetic accident". And he would inform an adopter about the risks coming with them. Imagine your legs and arms would be only a half or third compared to what you have now.
cuter than cute, cats are amazing and adorable creatures, they never cease to amaze, that is what I love about them and they rarely ever do the same thing twice
We could also look at this through a more positive lens. While it is true that humans breed these at this point, this mutation had to occur naturally for it to exist at all. Their continued existence proves that humans showed kindness to a creature that would otherwise be almost helpless in the natural world, giving them a chance at life. While I can't guarantee that all of them will live perfect lives, at least there will be people who are willing to love, take care of them, and allowing them to procreate. The alternative, at this point, would be pretty inhumane.
@@TheCandidPygmyYou can still care for any cat that happened to have this mutation without forcing them to breed and create more. The alternative at this point is not inhumane because the alternative is just to stop breeding more.
@dannonyogurt98 The problem with this is that it insinuates they do not want to breed and that humanity forces them to exist. I'm certain that there are breeders that specifically breed these traits for profit, but the cat would do so whether we breed them or not. They're animals. They desire to exist and procreate. I for one, am not going to geld an entire subspecies of felines just to satisfy the conscience of some people. That is, in my view, inhumane. They have the right to exist. However, you're entitled to your opinion that they do not.
