    I use two buckets when I clean, one cold clean water, one empty. I squeeze the sponge into the empty bucket to keep my cleaning water cleaner longer. Seems to help and I get almost no haze when I do that.

    Just grouted a sample 12" by 12" glass subway tile mosaic and made a mess of it. That's why I'm here. My grout lines were rough and uneven. I didn't know to use the rubber trowel, that will help. And that kind of solid sponge will be better. I think I had the wrong consistency of grout too. Loved the video. I feel more confident now for the real thing!

    I haven't done much tile, but I did make the mistake of emptying the grouting water bucket into the sink. The silty sandy residue was very difficult to clean out of the sink and I had to use a ton of water to make sure it rinsed out of the pipes. So my next bucket, I poured the water out gently and stopped when I got to the silt in the bottom (because it's very heavy and sinks to the bottom rather than mixes with the water) then scooped it out to throw away separately. The other option it to take the entire bucket outside and dump it in an obscure corner of the lawn or garden.

      @HouseImprovements  Před 2 lety

      With this Mapei Grout Im using (flex colour CQ) there is a urethane glue in the water mix as well and it will leave a stain on sinks and toilets if you dont rinse the sink down well every time. I just use a couple 5 gallon pails . Dump my dirty water into them and carry them out side when they need to be dumped. No more dumping down the sink or toilet.

    Don't get ahead of yourself on the grouting! Good point. Also, keep water and sponges clean. Second bucket for wringing all your sponges. But I have a question. Shouldn't the line where the tile meets counter be chaulked? This line will inevitably separate.

    • @HouseImprovements

      Yes ,I actually never mentioned that. It would get a bead of clear silicone the next day

      Yes. But I leave that line free of grout then fill with silicone that color matches. I find them in the store shelves next to the grout. Same brand as grout. Customer always says, "Such a nice caulking line." Thanks!

    I dump the dirty water outside because it'll clog up and dry rock hard in the P-trap clean outs. The haze will come off easily after it's dried using a dry cotton rag, but I've never used this type of grout before so that might not be entirely accurate. Anyone?

    Where do you dump the dirty water?

    • @HouseImprovements
      @HouseImprovements  Před 4 měsíci

      I dump it in the alley if i can or on gravel drive way. If you dump it in a sink or toilet you leave a residue that takes a lot of work to get off (if you can) and dumping on the street can leave a stain as well.

      There are tile "haze" cleaners if it is dried and will not wash off. Sometimes simply a good scrub with a plastic pot scrubber will work. Just be sure its not scratching the tiles.

    getting ready to grout my back splash, Mine is uneven. It is glass and stone tiles. I sealed the stone tiles before I hung them. I am just worried about grouting the unevenness of them. Any suggestions?

    • @HouseImprovements
      @HouseImprovements  Před 9 lety

      If there is a smaller area you can start with, I would start there.That will give you a small area to begin and help build your confidence. Only grout as much area as you can easily wipe and wash to keep up with the drying time. Start with a smaller area than you think you should and then see how you make out. The unevenness is nothing you can really fix at this point without removing and replacing them. You should be fine, it really is not that hard to work with.
