The beauty about this series is that below the seemingly fun anecdotes, there are so many hidden messages and a constant theme of consistency, constant learning, application, and enormous practice. This applies to all of us in any profession. Thank you so much. Thief, maybe, but, u can proudly say, "Catch me if you can"

I was in the same concert in Raga Sudha Hall and remember this incident. TNK Mama also added that that he himself (TNK Mama referred to himself as "naan") "naanum inda maari thirudi irukken". That was a very truthful and quite a hilarious moment!

What a gem!!!! There was a period when five great violinists were at their peak, almost at the same time, viz., Lalgudi, MSG, TNK, Kunnakudi and Chandru. Each of them was a virtuoso and unique in his own way.

I heard Sri Ram and his father TNK of course, play together here in San Diego at Shiva Vishnu Temple when there used to be a lovely Carnatic music sangam whose concerts were at the Kovil......After the concert your classmate was so friendly and so sweet....so excited and unjaded.....Oh, I heard, too, years later, Mr. Subrahmanyan here, once the sangam was hosting concerts in proper auditorium. Amazing concert! Mr. Venkatachalam in the vote of thanks that Tamils love so much, said that the Indian sangah often give honors after the singer is dead or is old, and that its high time SS is honored while even still young. I remember, b/c you made that Tamil hand gesture as if to say, my friend, what is wrong with you! and laughed. Everyone laughed...fine moment of a fine fine concert....Must be about 15 or 28 years ago...

Give & Take is a must in Carnatic Music. That is what is sustsining it for so long. No Royalty business for compositions, style etc. Every artist is generous. Rasikas are blessed. TNK had a very crowd pleasing artistry. My first moment years ago with TNK was with Niravathisukadha.. That concert included Tholijanma and Thaye Yasodha. Still have that in a Sony casssette tape.

They learn right upto IIT + MIT + IIM + Columbia University Business degrees. But never Vinayam and Sense of Occasion.
They don't have even the IQ to understand that sitting quiet thru the concert - is the only way they can pay their Obeisance to you, Sir, With Due Respect to you, the embodiment of Sri Saraswathi and this Divine Art.
As far I know IITs produce only accounting or business CEOs - monthly earning super Clerks. And never one Scientist.
Of what utility such high learnings - if they don't inculcate, imbibe, instill and inject the Character of being quite, responsible and not to be a source of nuisance value to others?
Utter Criminal waste of Public Money.

The legacy of Carnatic music is still given lifeline by brahmin community.(Very unfortunate to see they get pulled into selfish political agenda against them in TN). I am zero in knowledge of Carnatic music but I always love to listen to any youtube playlist I come across. My father use to be car driver for a leading advocate in Chennai (talking late 70's and beginning of 80's) the advocate family use to go for some leading Carnatic performers in 'Mylai Fine Arts Academy' in mylapore and in 'Music Academy'. In spite I am just their driver kid they never had any discriminations they will take me with them to so many Carnatic concerts along with their kids. I was just 9 or 10 years had no knowledge what is going on but love to be in that experience.
