  • Complete control of fear of flying can be achieved easily by revising the "valence code" labels attached to flight situation.
The part of the brain that decides whether to release stress hormones makes that decision based on how the various situations a passenger encounters are labeled.
The solution is as simple as changing labels with a negative valence to a positive valence. This video shows how it is done. More info at www.fearofflyi...

I managed to fly after 19 years after reading your book 'SOAR'. Thank you. In addition to all that were taught (indeed brilliant) I just want to add one more tip. Go to the airport and watch the plane take - off and land everyday. It helps too.

How do you help people prepare for what happened on the Lufthansa flight? Dropping over 1000 feet twice and 7 people going to the hospital? Hearing this triggers fear and terror for people with fear of flying. Suggestions?

Several ways. First I point out that the plane did not drop. The pilots changed altitude to try to get out of the turbulence. Second, the people who were sent to the hospital were not wearing their seat belt as instructed. On every flight, passengers are told to wear their seat belt even when the seat belt sign is not illuminated because unexpected turbulence - though rare - is possible. Third, I teach clients how to train their mind to remain calm when flying event thought there is a remote possibilty of something bad happening,

@CaptTomBunnLCSW I had wondered this too and didn't know the pilots changed the altitude. That's helpful to me. I'm not really that afraid of turbulence, but extreme turbulence like that is a fear.

      Wear the damn seat belt.
Nobody gets hurt in a seat belt. Don't let the jerks who refused to wear it and get hurt trouble you.

@@CaptTomBunnLCSW A seat belt is the least of their worries. But yes, that certainly would help.

What about an anecdote for people that don’t mind dying in a plane crash but they do mind being “trapped” on a plane. Say they have to wait 7 hours for a gate to open or something like that? I’ve heard stories that they’re in a plane for 11 hours and the plane has no air conditioning going, the food & water
is all gone…. For me I would have panicked minute one! Also, can you explain the air conditioning? It either works as your sitting on the ground or it doesn’t. Then they take off and freeze everyone out. I’d really love to know what is going on. And I’m sorry I just thought of this and it’s somewhat related…. But why do pilots lie to the passengers??? I used to be a flight attendant and I know when they’re lying. For example they’ll say they have a mechanical and it will take 25 minutes to fix the problem and then sign off on it and then ready to roll. BUT then it’s 50 minutes later and either they’re not fine or there’s a line to take off and they decided to wait it out at the gate. Meanwhile another hour later , ok folks we are having a weather delay and will push back in 20 minutes. Thanks for your patience 😡🤬🤯 so aggravating especially with someone who is claustrophobic. TIA - Jenny V.
