- A true international aquascaper / artist has arrived at Green Aqua to teach you aquascaping in this video. Steven Chong is an American from Hawaii, with Japanese and Chinese parents, currently living in Tokyo. He learned to set up planted tanks at the Tokyo Aquascaping Union, and he has two IAPLC TOP 27 ranks. He is very serious about the IAPLC, and - looking at his works and results - we think he has good chances to get to the top. We learned a lot from him, hope you guys will also enjoy this video.
Thank you AquaFlora for sponsoring the video.

Oh my God, love how you guys brought this to maturation! I can't believe it's been less than a month since I made this layout and it already looks like it is on the cusp of being photo-shoot ready! Also Tamas, master of aqua-terrarium, showing his stuff with the above-water planting! (which I totally left up to the Green Aqua team). It was truly an honor and privilege to work and scape with you all! Much Aloha!
It's been a great experience to have you over Steve, we learned a lot from you, thanks again for your visit my friend, and I really hope to meet with you soon. Also, thanks for the beautiful tank you built us, we're so proud of it! Aloha!
SteveScapes dude you are amazing.
@@Fsuholley Thank you!
Awesome job 🤙🏽 love the end result
Watching this video again buddy!! Congrats on IAPLC rank
I love steven, he's juste so cheerfull, so happy, he keeps smiling... And he is making incredible work great job
Yes, he is a very cool guy, and a very serious aquascaper too.
You should try the planted aquarium hobby yourself! I made a channel to show you can make low-maintenance, small planted aquariums out of glass bottles and I keep a few shrimp and snails in a glass drinks dispenser! My two latest videos on my channel shows the aquariums with commentary with one showing three shrimp fighting over an algae wafer!
Steven Chong is the most helpful aquascaper I've ever heard in explaining the technical aspects to designing layouts! Love when you guys bring him on!
Yepp, he is clear, full of info and a very good scaper. Loved this vid with him!
This is amazing Steven! Amazing job 👏🏼 And really enjoyed this video. Thanks Green Aqua 🤓
You're welcome, thanks for the comment as always... Steve is a very good scaper.
Woow I think this is one of the best compositions I have ever seen in 60p Aquarium. Also the way Steve explained the concept and layout to viewers is just incredible. Only few people will understand the depth and layering in such a small aquarium. Remember this is not contest aquarium size 150cm X 60cm X 60cm Unbelievable competition in 60p. ✌️❤
Woww green aquarium
Beautiful 💓💓💓
A beautiful scape, full with quality information, and one of the most fun and relaxing to watch.
Good job Green Aqua team👍👍
Thanks so much Ionut, we learned a lot from Steven in this video too. Cheers.
Spectacular scape Steven. This is my inspiration now for my 60P scape. Fantastic job. I think this is now the best aqua scape at GreenAqua. Haha!!
It is a very good scape and very dramatic, deep, we love Steve's style too.
This is amazing! So very inspiring. Thanks Steven and Green Aqua. 😍🔥🔥
You're welcome, yes it was inspiring indeed, Steve is a great scaper.
Hi, thanks to Steven Chong for all the tips. Steven is talented, funny and he combines modernism and tradition. Thanks to Green Aqua for making us enjoy such beautiful videos. I hope you are all healthy and take care of yourselves.
Yeah! Thanks for watching Michel, we loved Steve's approach too!
What a positive man! :) I really apreaciate that he shared his knowledge with other aquascapers. Thx!
I really enjoyed his open personality at the workshop. Nice to see him tell some more tricks and that he shares so much of his work.
Great video again 🙌🔥💪
Thanks! It was good having you over, hope to see you soon again!
Wow! Great work by Steven! he really pushes the boundaries with the dimensions of the tank. His unorthodox style is incredible, especially with the final result. Awesome job! thanks Green Aqua! looking forward to the next video!
Yeah, we learned a lot from him! Thx for the kind comment - as usual!
Thank you Steve for a beautiful aquascape and the techniques used. It is good to learn something new.👍 And thank you Green Aqua for a beautiful video.😊
You're welcome, glad you liked Steve's work.
Thanks again for a great video. Loved it as always. Green aqua is my aquascaping inspiration for sure.

This is stunning, and he makes it look so easy
I just want to say thank you so much for everything you guys do! Living that quarantine life here in nyc
Stay safe Jones and enjoy! We do the same in Hungary. :)
A very nice tank and good method of fixing and making safe the rock. Beautiful finished project. Well done Mr Chong and of course Tommy, too.
No, you're not, maybe next time. :) Thanks for the kind comment, glad you liked this work!
Complimenti!
That sound very good, glad you like what we do and it disconnects you! Mission accomplished. Thanks for the support!
Great job and thanks for sharing.
You're welcome, glad you like Steve's work! Cheers Luis.
Really enjoyed this video. Steven has some unique techniques that I might steal.
We learned a lot from him too, Mike. :)
Wow very nice job Steven!! 💚 👏 I'm waiting for the next one. 😀
Thanks Inês, glad you like Steve's work.💚
Hi, Tommy, great video with Steven Chong today. Lots of tricks and tips from this talented young man.
I hope Balazs is well on the mend now. Also all the staff at Green Aqua are staying safe and well.
Thank you so much for putting all this together. Stay safe everybody..
Cheers Terry, thanks for the comment, I edited this video too. It was useful, I also learned a lot from it. Cheers. B.
Luv to see a fellow islander being so far in the aquascaping hobby!
Another great video guys! Beautiful work Steve.👍🌿👍🌿👍
Cheers Vinnie, thanks! Steve is very very good!
Oh wow love this! Have a very vague idea for my next project that I couldn't find any reference to and this one is awesome! Especially love the shadow part in front right of the tank!
Yepp, it creates a lot of drama. Thx for watching and commenting.
Another Artist At Work. Really like this tank, goodluck to the maintenance guys.
Haha, we have some of the best maintenance in the world, so I'm not very concerned.
I really enjoyed hearing Steven explain the 5 different layers! Great scape :D
Yeah, he had some really good points in this video.
This aquascaping is another level, awesome job.
Glad you like Steve's work, thanks for watching!
@SteveScapes you are a true treasure to our hobby. You make it look so easy as only a magician can. またあとでね
Yeah, he has a vast knowledge and experience.
@@GreenAquaShop and his zest for life. :-)
I had to google that, haha.
Thank you Mary! It was wonderful to meet you at Green Aqua!
💚
very nice scape. good job Steven. Thanks for sharing Balazs! hope you feeling better.
Thanks so much Shawn, I'm good now, will be missing the next few vids recorded earlier, but will edit them. Glad you like Steve's work, we all learned from him a lot.
Awesome results! Love the shadow cast at the front. Used to have shadows on my tank but this one is just amazing on how it's cast. Really appealing!
Yeah, Steve can really design the shadows to create tension, he has this very proprietary style, I've been seeing this in almost all of his creations. Really good to have a signature style.
superb, waiting for the next part
Cheers, glad you liked the vid.
Amazing scape. Very good & satisfying 😊 video ......! Great work green aqua and steven Chong
Cheers 🍻
Glad you like Steve's creation, thanks for watching Edwin.
Expecting more pro videos from green aqua . Thank you guys ❤
You're welcome. Cheers!
Came out looking beautiful, especially with the shadows from the right side.
I know, such a great contrast, right? Steve has his name written all over this scape! I love his way of dealing with shadows.
I knew this guy will crack a better rank in IAPLC.. congrats to Steven and all the IAPLC winners.. Adams and Tommy's scape were really cool🤩😍
Yeah, thanks for the kind comment, glad you liked this video too! Also glad you like Tommy's work. Cheers!
What i like about this masterclass is it open our eyes on how achievable it is to beginner and how we can progress to explore more on arrangement of the scapes, and how small details tip like putting sand on top of monte carlo... Man whoever tried to plant mc now how frustrating it is to see it float when you fill the aquarium. Top class content as always! Thank you
Yeah, it is an even bigger problem with HC. Good tips, I agree, we all learned from this video - here too.
Loving how you guys explain how and why you place the hardscape it teaches us a lot
Yeah, we also learned a lot from Steven. He is very good.
Amazing!!!!!!I love aquascaping..really lucky to have found aquascaping.
Cool, welcome to the hobby! Stay tuned for more info and inspiration from us. Cheers.
Te quedó increíble, más videos como estos. Saludos
These guys are taking aquascaping to the level of art. Amazing work guys.
Thanks for watching!
Love the video Balazs, Tommy, Steve, and the rest of the folks at Green Aqua. Great scapes, but even better people! Your page is giving me lots of ideas for my new 60P scape. I just wish hardscape wasn't so expensive!
You can always hoard the hardscape. With a little planning and waiting all will fall into place you'll see. Thanks for the kind comment!
What a great scape once again. Love how Steve has his own techniques that are not the norm. He’s right though- gunna be a nightmare to maintain.😂💚
We have the best maintenance team in the world, so not afraid. :)
Thanks guys well done video as usual!
You're welcome, thanks for watching - as usual. Cheers!
So beautiful and amazing video....steven bulid so beautiful setup.... seriya rocks are amazing in shape and colour..he use rocks position in Beautiful way..he give amazing tips . base protection, packing of rocks, waterproof tap. That is cool! Glad you liked Steve's approach!
Really nice scape! Thanks for the quality video usually!
You're welcome, glad you like Steve's scape, he is good, we learned from him a lot here.
Great video guys! This is an awesome way to start the day. It's really interesting to see so many different techniques used to achieve the same goal. Very impressive how Steven pack the rocks... At least this time he has used some protection on side glass 😅
Ps. He knows what I mean... 🤣🤣
Apologies Filipe! Next time I'll bring the Duct Tape to Aquaflora! lol
@@SteveScapesYT ahahah you should ask!!!
We have a lot. 🤣
Yes, we learned from Steve a lot, good to see different methods, we're grateful for the knowledge!
This is maybe the best tank I have ever seen in your channel..
Green aqua has amazing tanks in gallery but this at least for me is absolutely out of competition.
I dont know if camera skills helps on that but the atmosphere of this tank is fantastic.
It makes me wanna come back to aquascaping sport.
That sound great, Steve has a very strong style, he is a very good contest aquascaper. Glad you like his work!

A Wealth of knowledge brought to us in this video! Super awesome, one of my fave scapes so far. Such detail, depth and variety! And the sound editing takes it to the next level. (this video is why I dont watch your videos until im totally free, fresh and have a cup of green tea, so I can enjoy in all its glory).
Cool. Especially the green tea part. You are just like me. :) B.
@@GreenAquaShop yup. Im addicted. Let me know if you reccomend any specific brands or which is your favourite.
I drink mostly sencha, but love gyokuro and bancha and oolong too.
@@GreenAquaShop thanks. Never had them so ill give them a try.
Gyokuro is the best. But for daily consumption I prefer Sencha. :) Mostly the Dilmah Sencha, I know it is bagged but it's a quick treat...
I've probably watched that video a thousand times.
❤🎉

Fantastic scape....I love the Steve style
Thank you very much.
We also love his style. :)
The determination to find your own methods to succeed is so treu. Not only in aquascaping.
I completely agree with you. There's no single way to do things, and being original is very important, trying is very important...
i have Hawaiian friend... he also half Japanese... they are open minded... and always curious to learn something...
Hawaii is beautiful island and also has super beautiful nature...

Stunning 😍
Cheers, glad you like Master Steven's work. :)
Love this so much 😍
Mission accomplished then, glad you like Steve's work!
Very Nice!
Yepp, Steve did a great job on this, it had lots of novelties ever for us.
Steven's aquascape was very well thought out. And the stocking selection is very complimentary too. Great job!
Personally would prefer slightly lighter plant load in the background on the left, maybe less moss.
Thanks for the feedback, will see how this progresses, and will trim more heavily if that's too much.
Really nice content 👍 😉. A lot of usefull tips 😉. Thank you 😉.
You're welcome, we learned a lot from Steve too.

Yeah, he is great!
Ohhh yea Im trying this for sureeeee look how naturalistic is that aquascape.
Yes, there's a lot of craft behind making this.
Just what I needed a green aqua hit 😃
There you go. Cheers! :)
Great vid! this is a very naturalistic style scape, truly does look like tree roots! can't wait for next weeks video! and when is Balazs coming back :(. Anyway as always, have a great week from Australia and see you next thursday!
I'll be missing some 5 videos now, but I'll be editing them. We recorded quite a few now, to be released in the coming weeks. Glad you like Steve's work, he is a very very good scaper, we all learned new things from him! Take care!

@@GreenAquaShop i liked every uploads of yours green aqua..
Thanks for the support!
Love it! ❤❤❤
We love this too, especially the contrast of this tank. Steve did a great job on this.
Hey guys. Nice video. Such talent. Hope our master of ceremony Balaz is ok… after this crisis, please consider bringing Luca Gallaraga and André Longarço from Brazil. Such talents too.
I'm fine, thanks for the comment. Been editing these videos and the ones that follow - only. Good idea about the Brazilians, will consider definitely.
@9:23. What an amazing piece of advice. Makes perfect sense.
Yepp, we learned a lot from Steve too!
Green Aqua of Course. Steve has such an amazing personality and his artistic decisions are amazing. Cant wait for the second half!!!!!
Well, it's not really gonna be a second half, but a whole another video. :) Stay tuned.
Great layout, it kinda gives gloomy dark feeling. I have just know that pinnatifida can be planted by gluing them. Different techniques to achieve such a scape, its so inspiring. Good job, great video as always.
All epiphyte plants can be glued, yeah. We learned a lot from Steve too. The dark feeling comes from the conscious use of shadows in the tank and the big proportion of the shadows - it's a great concept!
I love you guys
We begin with our newly tank and added the whole Soil layers with ADA Power Sand till Power. Since we have Seachem Matrix in our filter and we wanna use Seachem Prime, can we use tap water for the first fill up since the water will go thru the filter and than we can usefully use Seachem Prime? Thanks in advance, love you guys. You showed us this hobby that we love over everything now. Have a great weekend.
I answered your previous. Cheers.
Would love to replicate this on my 5 ft aquarium project and adapted for a paludarium. Very well done guys. Only issue is trying to get big pieces of Seiryu rocks!!
You don't necessarily need big pieces, you can always glue some together and build the structure - like Steve did. Cheers, thx for watching!
WOW, this is really a super-duper nice scape. If i had watched this on the 1st of April it has to be a joke.
I'm glad i've see this video on 3rd of April :P :P
Haha. Yeah, right.
Aquascape inspired me and made me excited to be creative 👍
Mission accomplished then! Thx for watching and good luck with your rescape!
I love left side, and idea with the emersed section. But right side feel like covered half of tank with shade and huge rock.
Yeah, that's the tension of this tank, it is on purpose, it's like the dark side...
@@GreenAquaShop I understand. I lobe shadows on rocks in this tank. But for my not professional taste, its like waste of space. Only my personal taste. Left side is perfect and Id like to make something like this in near future. But I dont have any Idea for right side. Best regards.
Yeah, personal taste varies a lot, I agree. Cheers.
