Fabulous breakdown mate - that solved this for me. You are a great, enthusiastic teacher
Cheers Sean!
Thank you for breaking that down. My band is going to start playing that song and although I am a seasoned drummer, I always use these tutorials as you are never too good to keep learning more. Thank you sir and cheers from Connecticut USA!
Thanks for watching!
Great lesson. Always thought it was more complicated, cheers Mike.
You're welcome, thanks for watching Thomas 👊🏻
either me, Thomas!!! thanks Mike!!!
This was really helpful. I've been learning drums for a month but have been asked by my friends to learn this song. Will be practicing it for a while
Hi Mike, I'm an old drummer of 69 coming out of retirement after 20 years and the band wants to play Valerie great brake bown will help me loads 🥁🥁
I love how you broke that down . Thank you .
Cool man, thanks for watching 👊🏻
Love you enthusiasm and your skills. Very, very handy lesson. Many thanks.
Exactly the lesson I've been looking for - thanks.
Incredible lesson loved it I watch all your other tutorials and I love how you explain everything and break it down into simple parts. Cheers to you mate!!!
Cool man, glad it was helpful! 👊🏻
Thats a very good independence exercise Mike, where new players find their hi hat following their bass drum ...it's one I've never done before, having heard it many times but never played it..
In the song there is a break no drums, where the drumming kicks back in again, which will be something to practice,... thankyou Mike with that lesson ...it's great...
Best wishes
Colin
You have a beautiful energy, my man! Thanks for the lesson.
Thanks for watching!
Just learned this thanks to you! Love this groove
👊🏻
Explained very well Mike thanks for that, much appreciated.
Thank you so much for this, I had to learn this style of drum beat for my music a level and this helped me learn it within the hour, thank you again
oh my god you're the most beautiful angel to have ever walked the face of earth thank you
Too kind 🙏🏻Glad if useful.
Brilliant lesson thank you 👌
Thanks that is brilliant and very easy to follow for a beginner! Cheers
Love it Mike, nice & simple. Awesome lesson!
Cheers Man, thanks for watching :)
Enjoyed your teaching style. Very clear instructions. Thanks 👻
Thanks for watching!
so helpful thank you
Excellent tutorial
Cheers Gary, glad you dig
This was really well explained, thanks so much.
Thanks for watching Nicholas!
Thanks so much! It helped a lot. Wish you would do a tutorial for the whole song.
Legend!
So glad I found this. I am playing a version someone downloaded off the Internet and the drum part has the Cuban 3:2 clave pattern on the bass drum - really hard to play against the crotchets on the HH and 2 and 4 on the snare. It is only two beats displaced by an eighth note, but it changes the beat into a co-ordination challenge (For no good reason...). Your version fits - and I think it what was on the original :)
It is!
Thank you!!
Thank you sir
Thanks !!!!😊
Great lesson thank you 😁
👊🏻
Thank you!!!!
Obrigado man
Ive been proper struggling with this as my hands just wanna follow my feet, even after nearly 40 years of playing so I'm praying this is gonna save me
Sounds like it's time for some back to basics!: czcams.com/video/3wYtinCVgQU/video.html
Thanks for watching.
I can now play this song! Thank you so much always a song that annoyed me haha GREAT LESSON
Wait, woooow, really, Thank you! Walking through the kick--and (!) going back over it with the count! Now it feels within grasp.
Nicely done. This is an excellent way to teach. You are on point and you most importantly played with the intended rhythmic FEELING as you broke in down. EXCELLENT!!!!!
Hey you are my favorite one
Mike you are awesome...
Ha, thanks! Cheers for watching!
Thanks so much for this. I love the way you broke it down. Although I haven’t got it fully yet, I’m a way more closer than I was before.
Do you have a print out for your lesson?
No but I'll do one! Glad you dug 👊🏻
@@MikeBarnesDrums thank you so much!!!!! 🙏🏾❤️
Been struggling with this for years, nay decades but I think I may have it down just need to build up speed and smoothness
Hi can you please show me how to play the song neutron dance by the pointer sisters
hii!! i really like yout videos and i was wondering if you had a cover of i cant handle change by r.o.a.r??
Thanks! No! Cheers for watching :)
You mentioned in the video that this could be played with other songs. Any examples? Xx
Hi Mike.. thank you for all your lessons 🙏 you an excellent teacher..when you speed up the tempo you said to play it in swing?
Because I do the same note by note but it didn't sound like you 😏 it bicouse its play in different style?
And how to do it?
Thank you..
Hi Koby, thanks for watching. It's "swinging" slightly as you get faster, in the sense that the bass drums on the "+" of beat 2 and 3 are played slightly later than normal - the 8ths notes are swung, but not the quarter notes. Check out my video about straight vs swung here: czcams.com/video/8tOlFVQlFOQ/video.html 👊🏻
@@MikeBarnesDrums as always very good and clear expeletion...you are no.1🥁🥁💯💯💯👌
@@vertigot1 👊🏻
Thanks, really helped me
Hmm...I always thought the snare was on the &s based on the tempo of the 4 clicks at the beginning of the song. Now I kinda question if there are any songs that "really" have the snare on the &s or if those are all just double the tempo I thought and end up on 2 and 4 again with a two measure phrase instead of one measure and all the &s ;-)
Can you think of any songs with the snare on all the &s?
Could you say which beats go on which count i dont understand when you kicking the bass
Instead of just saying 1234 it all looks the same
Hey, Mike! Think you need to update the video title to Amy Winehouse :P
pandui Ha ha good spot, cheers man! 😂
great nonsense lesson
😂
