Following Directions

Is your child working on following 1-3 step directions at speech therapy? If so, we want to teach you how you can help boost your child’s receptive language skills at home by getting them to follow 1-3 step directions. 🖍 You will need: A coloring page, crayons, 5 well-known items, a bowl/box, Splingo’s Language Universe APP (optional).
1️⃣You will give your child a 1-step direction, “Color the leaf green.” OR “Go get the blue ball.”
2️⃣ OR You will give your child a 2-step direction, “Color the leaf green. Then color the bird blue.” OR “Go get the blue ball, then put it in the bowl.”
3️⃣ OR You will give your child a 3-step direction, “Color the leaf green. Then color the bird blue. Last touch your head when you are done.” OR “Go get the blue ball, then go get the ice cream cone, last put them both in the bowl.”
4️⃣ If your child is unsure about the direction...give them a clue! You can point to clue them in on the next step in the direction (and say “hmm did you forget one something.”).
5️⃣We also like to have them repeat the completed direction! You can say “Great job. Tell me what you did?” Your child may say, “First I colored the leaf green. Then I colored the bird blue.”
