- Just more of the same from the Cubs tonight. Their offense was "pathetic" according to Kap. They left 10 more runners in scoring position tonight as they got shutout by their rivals to the north. #JamesonTaillon was outstanding. He went 7.1 innings and only gave up 4 hits and 1 run. And that one run was actually given up by #JulianMerriweather after he relieved Taillon and inherited one of his base runners.
Kap talked to #JimBowden today on the Cubs REKAP Podcast and Jim felt like it was a crime the Cubs wouldn't try to make some trades to make this years' team better when they are only 3.5 back in the Wild Card. Jim also pointed out that the Cubs have had exceptional starting pitching this season, which makes it even more shameful that they're not going to try and add some assets at the deadline.

@@JCar0106 The Cubs do not know how to develop players to play in the Bigs. They don’t understand what type of player they need to fit into their needs at the Big league level either. Always looking for a qualified third baseman. How about drafting and developing one? Catcher? They had a good one (not perfect) in Contreras, yet let him go without a real long term solution in the farm system. They view their farm system as a place to generate trade bait for rental players because they really don’t have a clue as to how to develop players or a Big league team. Realistically, Happ and Hoerner are the only two true Big League position players that the Cubs have developed in a long time. They have some pitching talent, but it seems they all are damaged goods. Braves, Dodgers, Rays and Milwaukee seem to have a solid pipeline of players in their system with guys coming up ready to play consistently year in, year out. Must not be rocket science.

Dude outwardly shows his frustration and emotion when he makes a mistake like no other player I have ever seen. He can run but that's it. He can make routine outfield plays but that's it, anything potentially "spectacular" he looks awkward at the attempt and he gets in everyones way out there. What a mess. Some guys wither, some guys blossom when they get to the show. In spring training, PCA with his blue hair did not impress. He had a nervous energy. On the other hand, Owen Cassie looked super relaxed and the ball just sounded different off his bat.

I'm sorry but I may be in the minority here. PCA needs to go to the bench and only come in for defensive purposes or pinch running and Nico should be traded. Sick of his groundouts to 2B in big situations. Great defense yes but I'm fine if they can get a nice package for him.
PCA is not ever going to be a legit mlb player. He's fast but it will never be of service to any team became can't get on base therefore can't steal any bases. Sure he can run down and catch balls hit to center field but great defense is not enough if you can't hit. I would send him down or trade him.
In terms of position players, almost nothing the Cubs tried this year has worked. But in the Cubs' and Jed's partial defense, more went wrong than they could have imagined. They didn't expect Morel to be floundering around .200, or that Hoerner, Bellinger and Swanson would all be nicked up with injuries and under-performing. Gomes' collapse was a surprise, too, but given his age they should have had a contingency plan. Madrigal was a disappointment. P-C-A did not "take the next step" that they were hoping he would. Almost nothing worked. For all that disappointment, it's ridiculous that they're only 4.5 games out of the Wild Card. But I think the prudent thing is for the Cubs to be strategic sellers at the deadline. This isn't their year.

I can pull up any Cubs box score without first seeing the score, and if I see the names-Morel, Amaya and Wisdom-in that lineup it is almost a certainty that the Cubs lost. Not sure why Counsell repeatedly fails to see the same thing. KAP, you’ll have to inquire at the next presser. Craig will probably yell back, “That’s not a good take.”
I notice when other teams are playing bad, the stadium is empty. Wrigley on the other hand is still full, so why are people complaining at this point? You know what the hell you’re paying to see, yet you still pay to go see them. You think your loyalty will be reciprocated? Oh please, the Ricketts and Jed couldn’t care less, and his last statement told you so. Either continue to watch this team swim or sink, or sadly look forward to March.

This was the dumbest 9th inning managing of the year so far and there's been many to pick from . The two worst hitters on the team and they're not bunting . Mastrobuoni flies out and of course Crow-Armstrong cant even make contact and strikes out swinging , it's what he does best , this guys only asset is his speed but he cant hit MLB pitching , so why not let him put down a bunt and use his speed , what else is he good for ? Baseball 101 , and Hoyer chose this guy over David Ross ? Biggest mistake since he's been in charge, and not a cheap one either. Hope Ricketts enjoys this embarrassment .

Sorry, but Bowden is talking out of both sides. On one side he says Cubs don't have any stud hitters, which is true. Then he says they should buy but not trade top prospects to get some help. So what kind of return are the Cubs going to get by trading their middling prospects? Jamier Candalario types. Not exactly Juan Soto. That Bowden is offended by Jed saying he is selling, but then suggesting they shouldn't trade top prospects is a lot of hot air. The Cubs are bad because Jed and the manager who makes the most in MLB history are bad.
