Hi Warchief So the mechanism to hold the paper is twofold. The corner of the paper goes into the slot at the top right of the board. On the left side of the board, you press your thumb along the gray strip to pop up the the metal strips along the left side Check around the minute seconds mark for the demo on this mechanism. Hello Ruel, I think the answer depends upon the thickness of the cardboard. The paper holder lifts up quite a bit and would accommodate card stock and some cardboards. I can get the paper in the bottom but not on the L/Hand side ?

On my board, you have to apply pressure to the very left of the panel to lift it up. Hope this helps you out. Let me know.
