5:00 That slip of the tounge about February 2022 and "we didn't know that the world was going to change" though
You predicted the future
The way you speak and explain things... It's just great! It's not easy to find someone like you. Usually, these kind of videos are quite tedious to watch, especially when you get to the explanation part. What is difficult at this level is to explain something in a catchy way (if you know what I mean), but you do it so naturally that it looks way too easy. Congrats!!! Hope you keep on growing on this channel 🤓💪
Thank you. I appreciate it 🙂
So happy that I've found such an experienced teacher on CZcams! 👏👏👏

Blissfully... great adverb, but looking for more examples leads me to think about the delicious noun "bliss" in examples/collocations like "marital bliss", "he is in a state of bliss", "what bliss to take these shoes off!", "ignorance is bliss", "they live in domestic bliss" or just "bliss" in a religious meaning.
Yes! It's a great word 🙂
YOU KNOW SOMETHING, I LIKE THE WAY YOU TEACH ENGLISH. I THINK YOU ARE THE BEST 👌 TEACHER I HAVE EVER HAD. THANK SO MUCH FOR YOUR BEING WITH US!!!.

Hi Ben,
Could you make a video on Ergative verbs?
American speaker here. The word "utterly" in itself doesn't have a UK English bent but the positive sense you used it in does.
Your method of teaching is undoubtedly outstanding.
I have met many unabashedly vicious comments.
His speech was deceptively uncorrected.
His achievements in the science were astonishingly huge.
His approach is awfully bad for the community.
His performance was blissfully mesmerising.
I am reluctantly avoid to commute by public transport.
I forgot the last one, last but not least. I fondly remember my childhood when we were playing many games outside with my peers.
Thank you so much Ben. I took the FCE today and your videos helped me not to stress before the exam.
That's great... well done! Let me know the results when you get them!

Astonishingly, you went to the future, to 2022, to the beginning of the pandemic!
The film "The hangover" is unabashedly hilarious.
Nice examples!
Hello Teacher, perhaps you are unaware of what these free lessons of you do for us foreign students, pr how it works. Well, I can only tell how it goes for me, and that's like if you give us all the ingredients - eggs, flour, butter, etc..., and we have just to stir it up, put in the oven and bake a good and delicious cake. I'm personally struggling here to include in my speaking and writing all of these vocabulary you have taught us on several other videos. However, I'm sure that if I manage well to do the hard job, the results will come up and I will overcome the B2 plateau. That's how you have helped me, so, thank you for the excellent job.
Thank you so much for your lovely comment. I really appreciate it and I love your cake analogy! 👏
5:00 . You are correct, the world has changed at 24th of the February 2022...
Greetings from Ukraine.
😔🇺🇦
Who else is actually seeing this video in february 2022 so now Ben is right about the world about to change?????
🤷🏻♂️
Taliking about 'Reluctantly' , does that mean that we don't like to agree , but we have to , due to some facts that change your mind or without any supports to the opponent's idea?
Another common adverb that English learners should use more: arguably.
Reading is arguably the best way to learn English.
Hi, Ben! I'm still a little confused about the word "deceptively". I would have thought "deceptively difficult" means "it seems to be difficult but in fact, it's easy".
It can have both meanings depending on the context
@@tothepointenglishwithben. 😩I see. Thanks for the explanation! Your lessons rock
Is it possible to say someone is “awfully bad at doing something” in order to emphasise that he or she is really bad at performing a certain task? Thank you for this video!
It is my understanding that Utterly is more accurate when the sentence has a negative connotation. For example, you can say: The building was utterly destroyed. But not: The building was utterly constructed. However, it looks like Grammarly doesn't pop out whenever I type it.😅
Many thanks for you. I have a suggestion if you please. Why don't you evolve an exercise after each video? It would be interesting and we can have more benefits.
Thanks please put the pdf link of lessons
Pls add a summary at the end of the video would be great
This lesson is deceptively simple(actually difficult). In your example ' the exam was deceptively difficult'(it implies it was simple).I got it like this🧐
It has both meanings
Strange as the video on the adjectives seems quite advanced to me (1 on 2 was new) and this one seems "basic" (except unabashedly). Is it me? Or could it be that adverbs are "easier" to learn than adjective?
English language plays a part and parcel role in our life because it has a lot of benefits....is it right sir ?
The English language is part and parcel of out life...
Ihave to reluctantly admit that i think deceptively difficult means that you think it is difficult while actually it isn't.
It can have both meanings depending on the context.
1. Undoubtedly (Certainly, without a doubt).
The number of copied infections in Europe is undoubtedly decreasing
2. Astonishingly (very surprisingly).
Astonishingly some people don't like studying English
3. Awfully (very badly and very good excellent, to add emphasis). It is an oxymoron.
He plays the guitar awfully / He is awfully good at playing the guitar.
4. Reluctantly. (Unwillingly. you do it even though you don't really want to do it)
I reluctantly agree with you that Real Madrid is better than West Ham.
5. Blissfully (happily or peacefully) - Blissfully unaware (you have no idea that something has happened or it is going to happen).
In February last year, we were blissfully unaware that the world was about to change
6. Utterly (totally or completely it's really to add emphasis to something it could be positive or negative, t's utterly ridiculous or utterly disgraceful it's just ready to add emphasis more than anything).
the banoffee pie we had for dessert was utterly delicious
7. Unabashedly (without embarrassment when you do something, without embarrassment)
The film was unabashedly silly but it was great fun
8. Deceptively (misleadingly. it refers to something that makes you believe something that is not quite true)
The speaking part of the exam is deceptively difficult.
9. Fondly (to be fond of something, to like something and fondly, it's similar to have affection for something and we often use it with remember).
I fondly remember a time before smartphones.
10. Willfully (you do it deliberately or intentionally, to cause damage or harm to something or somebody, in a negative context).
He willfully ignored restrictions and entered the supermarket without wearing a mask.
Thanks an awful lot!
Could we have timestamps of the words here too? I do not want to shirk the responsibility of going through the entire video, which I will undoubtedly do, but rather to make it easier to revisit. Thank you.
Here I am, preparing for a C1 advanced test w only a month to go ¬¬
I was wondering if there is a website where we can find the most common collocations of adjectives and adverbs without reading tons and tons of books. Does anyone know?
Thank you for this lesson!
This time, I decided to share my own examples:
Laura’s husband was awfully sorry for having forgotten about her birthday.
Astonishingly, many world leaders still seem to be blissfully unaware of the serious long term consequences of global warming.
Being constantly exposed to noise can be utterly exhausting and undoubtedly affects our health as well as psychological well-being.
Much to her embarrassment, Julia’s secret lover unabashedly declared in front of her friends how fondly he loved her.
At first glance, the new method seemed deceptively easy to learn.
Last night, a group of hooligans wilfully destroyed furniture and other items in the exclusive hotel located in the heart of the popular resort.
Please do let me know if there are any mistakes in these sample sentences.
I would honestly appreciate it!
Kind regards,
Anna
Excellent!
@@tothepointenglishwithben. Thank you for checking my “homework”!

In this video, we have learned at the 5:00 that Ben is a time traveler
am I wrong or should we not use an 'a' before time in the 'fondly' example?
Hi Ben. According to wordreference, "unabashedly" does not appear. However, what does is "unashamedly". Would you clarify that for me please, thank you
No idea. You'd have to ask WordReference 🙂
It appears in other dictionaries
The plan seemed deceptively simple (= it seemed simple but was not).
so when you said that "the speaking part of the exam is deceptively difficult" is actually easy, no?
Actually, a curiosity of this adverb is that it can have both meanings. "Deceptively difficult" can mean both easier than expected and more difficult than expected. Context is everything! 🙂
Officially and positively mind-fucked 👀.
You misspoke about the February 2022, but apparently you were looking into the future...
Oh, god! Such a coincidence about Feb, 2022 :(
Undoubtedly, taking in a lot of sugar can contribute to increase your risk of diabetes. Does it sound correct?
👍
PS: I guess the preposition “about” in one of the sentences I shared in the comments yesterday is unnecessary (or even incorrect?). It probably should be:
“Laura’s husband was awfully sorry for having forgotten her birthday”, not “[…] about her birthday.”
On the other hand, can I use the word “admirer” as a synonym for “lover” in the sentence “Much to her embarrassment, Julia’s secret lover unabashedly declared in front of her friends how fondly he loved her”, in order to avoid the repetition of two words with the same root, i.e., “lover” and “loved”?
Please do let me know if there are any mistakes in these sample sentences.
I would honestly appreciate it!
Kind regards,
Anna
'about' is fine in that sentence.
You can use 'admirer' but that changes the meaning of the sentence.
@@tothepointenglishwithben. Thank you for your reply!
What if I leave out the adjective “secret” in “secret lover” and substitute it for “admirer”? Would this still have a very different meaning? If so, which word can I use synonymously for “secret lover”, in order to avoid the coincidence of two words with the same root in one and the same sentence, i. e., “lover” and “love”?
Regards,
Anna

Undoubtedly = without a doubt = you undoubtedly did it! You're accused of committing this crime.
Astonishingly = your show was astonishingly fantastic!
Awfully= this cake is awfully being made
Awfully good = extremely good
Reluctantly = unwillingly = Luca reluctantly gave her the money
Unwittingly = unconsciously / inadvertently
Blissfully = happily = Marco is blissfully unaware of what happened
Utterly=completely=this guy's utterly jacked
Unabashedly = without embarrassment= he swore at his teacher unabashedly
Deceptively = with a deceive = that was deceptively difficult
Fondly=fond of= we fondly remember what you did
Wilfully = used negatively =intentionally = he wilfully punched the guy although knowing it was wrong doing so
Good work, Luca 👏 (But, "This cake is being made awfully" is better)
Has every adverbs you have taught us as their owns meaning?? I mean, they’re intransitive words. Isn’t it??
It's already March
The word "deceptively" is deceptively puzzling to me. I mean it generally means the adj it describes isn't exactly what it means, but it can either be "deceptively simple" (not simple) or "deceptively dangerous" (more dangerous than it seems). Like da heck?
hi teacher, nineteen its very old isnt'
I think your last example should be DECEPTIVELY ESASY!! IT seems or looks easy but it's not. 🤔😊
It has both meanings 👍
I had to rewind the video and watch it again because I was distracted by how handsome you are😶
Then the exam was deceptively easy= difficult. If it is deceptively difficult, it is not difficult!
