#Andertons #polyphia #timhenson - Hudba
So many people missing the point of this guitar. It’s a niche guitar meant to be a nylon/classical that has playing similarities to an electric. I have mine and it’s hard for me to put it down, I love it!
It is Andertons though......
Agreed, just because it's a nylon doesn't mean it's a classical!
I couldn’t disagree more.
What a stupid guitar.
You're missing the point too... It will sell because Polyphia, and that's it. Whether it's good or bad doesn't matter (yeah it's bad, but who cares...)
@@HeadbangoO Lmfao so ignorant
Ben, you are such an inspiration to my playing! Thank you, this is a great video and you excel as always! I didn't even know I wanted an electric nylon until watching this video!😃
That's a really reasonable price. It might tempt electric players to try it and have an acoustic number in their rock set!
Wonder if it would have tempted Paco De Lucia ?
£37 Cheaper @Thomann
It doesnt just tempt. its sold out everywhere with some stores even having the next batch of pre orders also sold out

No, he liked actual good guitars.
Not this buzzy mess.

Beautiful playing on the outro! Bravo!
Thanks. Ibanez has made a number of nylon electro guitars. I have a GA35TCEDVS which has a body leaning a bit more toward traditional. Still a moderately thin body, but with a resonant top and a normal sound hole. Very nice piece and fun to play.
Channeled through a Bose T4S for a bit of "piezo correction" it's great. W/o the correction it's a bit thin and honky like most nylon piezo's, but once corrected, you can get deep into Willie Nelson style walk-ups and other fun things 😊
You'all might want to try this one into some tone correction pedals or a T4S, maybe even a Kemper. That would be a fun session and demo 😁
So nice to hear something other than Polyphia songs played on this. Got mine coming on Monday without any preorder wait so I'm chuffed.
Sold out everywhere in europe ffs
@Tygo you never know one may show up somewhere unexpectedly. I just kept checking all the time then found one suddenly available at one store.
@@Doc.Marten123 How you finding it? I am looking at trying to get one
@The Fourth Write Djentleman it's not too bad. Certainly doesn't have a great tone unplugged, but I guess that's not what it's for. If you're after a classical guitar sound it's nowhere near as warm sounding. But plugged in, it's pretty decent, the neck feels comfortable and smooth, the pickup system is good.
if you cover it in bright green felt and some shag it becomes a Jim Henson signature guitar
waka waka!
Lmao
I want to hear more of it with the bass control dimed - from the few seconds we heard, it had some really interesting resonance, almost like a reverb. I might be tempted, if only Ibanez made a left-handed one. 😐
I really want one. I know Tim said on a livestream before they went touring that he was going to push Ibanez for more left-handed models, especially his silver TOD10. Hoping the nylon one is coming soon.
Henson has said he'd love to release a left handed nylon!
Exactly. So pissed that left handed players get treated with spare handedness man.
Same, I'd buy this too
Holy buckets I didnt realize how much the tone knobs did to this guitar it sounds crazy
Wow, that pickup sounds great.
Good price on those. Tim is smart for keeping it reasonable for a signature guitar. I absolutely love Ibanez acoustics. Might have to snatch one of these up.
Well nylons ar typically not as expensive the other guitars anyways unless you're getting a higher end classical one. Hit as for the other Ibanez nylons they aren't going be as expensive as most of their electrics anyways regardless of it being an artist model.
Tim most likely had no input on cost. This is purely a business deal with very tight margins and very strategically placed. It's all a numbers game in the product world.
Tried it the other day, felt nice and sounded great..takes about 4 months to get one from the store where I live xP
That sounds good.. A demo only with this guitar please 🥺 🥺 🥺
Love mine. I have a gibson semi-hollow electric, fender strat, Martin full body acoustic, and this guitar. Makes apartment playing fantastic. Really lightweight, I take it everywhere. The nylon strings make practicing chord shapes and fretting more articulate across all guitar types as you get less clarity by playing blues or classic rock style. As a jimmy page and David gilmour inspired player, this guitar brought out some articulation problems in my finger picking and fretting. Glorious instrument for the price, wish it had a case. My most played practice guitar. I love polyphia so that was a perk.
how is playability vs steel string acoustic? i have tendonitis and want something that takes way less force to play than my steel strings.
@@JonasCraftUltimate I think one thing to consider is that while fretting is less physically demanding, it is way more finicky. By that I mean, you have to more precisely articulate chords. Nylon strings will buzz or mute much more easily than metal strings. If I was you, I would consider lighter gauges or an electric guitar (semi hollow or hollow). Because most guitar songs have bends, and nylon strings don’t bend well. To be candid, I actually sold the Tim Henson guitar to make room for my dream Les Paul. Nothing wrong with the guitar, I just got a great deal on a Gibson Les Paul and the Tim Henson guitar had decent resale still. So made room.
@@zaccarter3801 thanks for saving me $750! Will maybe try it out If I see it in a store but def not ordering it now without trying it, will go get .8s for electric
@@JonasCraftUltimate what’s your play style? I can make some decent recommendations in the same ballpark. If you are kind of in to anything and want something versatile, an epiphone ES-335 is a great instrument that sounds good acoustically and amazing with an amp. WARNING, any purchase of an epiphone will make you dream about the Gibson version. I used to be an “anti-Gibson” guy but then I grew up and Gibson, as a whole, got better (avoid 2013-2018 years, is a good rule of thumb).
ben do u mind doing a direct comparison to the cordoba stage?
He describes things really well
Definitely much more for the "rock band with a nylon part of a song" as opposed to a band that is more classical/nylon focused. Playability is for sure more of the focus than the traditional sound
Yeah, it sounds crap.
@@powbobs I'd honestly blame that on the presenters processing of the guitar signal.
@@MrKylederp
It sounds terrible in every review.
Marcin's style is more of a classical guitar style and he uses this guitar alot
I can only describe it as sounding really plastic compared to my takemine
Not sure if there was a review with the non TOD model on the left of they're the same besides the pickup. I tried that one unplugged.
Everyone is saying the guitar sounds bad but i absolutely love how it sounds! Its got that dope quak-ness to it. Its so unique!!!
Yep agree , i think it has a verh nice sound to it , its just different from a traditional acoustic and people maybe say it sound bad becuse its different
I thought it sounded good as well, and it's really not at all expensive for a signature guitar. I see this as a nylon guitar for electric players who want "unplugged" tones on stage or for beginners (who like Polyphia) ... it's obviously not for classical guitarists. If I didn't already have a nylon string electroacoustic I think I'd be sorely tempted.
So you like the sound of horrible fret buzz.
To each their own I guess.
@@powbobsIt's common, flamenco guitars have intentional fret buzz and this does too.
@@yeetyfreety6938
I have flamenco guitars.
Good flamenco guitars only buzz when you really dig in to intentionally produce that specific tonality.
This piece of crap however is just badly made.
I was overwhelmingly surprised by the sound and feel of the guitar, playing Flamenco, and Rumba stylings works well on this guitar. It is very versatile, and stands up well to my others, Godin, Rick Turner, Yamaha (silent), and my Kiesel. Definitely fun to play, and the equipped Fishman is super nice. I've been trying to purchase this for a while and the guitars have been back ordered, but while in Boston this past weekend, went to The GC, and miraculously they had one in stock. Got the Labor Day sale price + Berklee School of Music discount....yes!!! Well even it it wasn't on sale, the price is forgiving, and won't put one in the poorhouse. Definitely a well made instrument by Ibanez!! KUDOS!
Hey was there any compression put on the guitar track in post on this video? Thanks
The flamenco scales sounds great
Mine sounds great and I play through a boss as well
Love the way you demonstrate with that ending piece of music. Can tell it was somewhat derived from the playing god.
Sounds like elastic bands. But DI acoustics often do. There's no resonance from the wood.
I'd imagine it sounds better when you run it through Tim Henson's NeuralDSP plugin which has an acoustic sim. I personally find these (and the Fender acoustasonics) a bit puzzling because they're just about useless as actual acoustic guitars... but given how incredibly popular the Fenders are, there must be a real market for them.
For some I imagine it's a sweet compromise, but for me, if I want an acoustic, I want its sound to be intrinsic to the guitar itself and not dependent on DSP.
Yeah this is definitely not a guitar where you go to play a show unplugged with it or just a mic over the acoustic hole 😅
you love a good gibson dont you
@@omgdisfunny4852 I prefer Martins. 😂
@@mrpositronia Except when the binding falls off.
Great playing, but the tone of the guitar doesn't sound great sadly, it just doesn't have the resonance that you would expect from a good nylon string.
Does it feel as dead in the hands as it sounds through my speakers?
I guess the question is: what potential does this guitar have in the hands of a Tim Henson fan..? I am too old to answer that but I hope some kid does.
If I were a Tim Henson fan, I would probably go for his electric with the pickups that give me a nylon sound to have more versatility. Saying that, I'm always happy that someone like Tim wants to try something new and Ibanez are good enough to accommodate him and have enough faith in him to put it out there.
Hopefully we will hear something new in the future from someone wielding this thing and we'll all eat our hats!
There’s loads of polyphia clones playing electric nylons these days and it sounds very good. I think, like a usual electric guitar, what comes after the guitar is much more important.
Huge Polyphia fan here - I have this guitar and I LOVE playing it. It’s just fun as all hell to play, and I love the tone it has. It’s not meant to be an acoustic - there are thousands of options for that already - this is niche, and I love it for what it is. Super high quality for the price too!
It's a niche guitar but good for noodling and practice. If it gets you to pick it up and play it's a good guitar imo.
@@gohamm8629
Tone?
Dead and buzzy is not good tone.
I actually like how the pickups sound, it's quite unique but that also means it's super niche, and this style of elec/accoustic is already a hard sell on top of the nylon, and I woulds simply NEVER use one of these flat bodies as a straight accoustic which cuts the theoretical usefulness in half for me. Doesn't sound bad at all, but definitely needs the right player AND the right kind of music to be useful.
Yamaha guitalele and a silent guitar lovechild. Wish it had more bass acoustically but alas it is more an electric guitar. The look is amazing and the end result unique
This one is a really good deal but I’ll get the cordoba stage for me soon 🙌🏻
I played the Córdoba stage and I thought it was fantastic but i took a chance and bought the TOD10n figuring I could return it if I didn’t like it. I prefer the TOD. It sounds just as good if not better (to me) and it feels way better.
I'd love to try Late Autumn by Jackie Cheung on this
Please do a video of tod10n vs cordoba stage
What is the other guitar referenced in the vid?
maybe with some crazy pedal effect,it will show what it could do
Yes, anything to cover the actual sound of the guitar itself.
Be a nice gift for your favorite picker. 🥰🎸
Where the sound hole?
How does it go fingerstyle?
Kema Baliardo plays a similar style of guitar by Cordoba. Check out his playing of Moorea on youtube.
Would be good to hear it in the hands of a classical player with decent right hand technique
... now if that was being played through massive PA with full range speakers it would transform the sound , maybe a bit of Strymon reverb / cloudburst etc and you have a sound that will make you money , wedding breakfasts , sit down dinner music , background tunes etc sadly not the best demo , sound wise , playing was great as usual 👍
I just learned that a "wedding breakfast" is something that exists. Thanks!
Nah, I've seen a lot of pro musicians using acoustic-electric nylon strings and that's more or less how they sound plugged in.
My exact set up lol , this guitar and my cloudburst and it’s insanely good sounding
@@danny.chulo.
LOL, no.
As with most A/E guitars they need to ditch the piezo pickup and put some transducers on the soundboard. This might work well with an impulse response pedal of a decent nylon string.
Only been playing three years; one of my main hates is piezo pickups, it bothers me that they are the industry standard when transducers sound, in general, so much more natural.
Had a talman acoustic in my arsenal for some chord stuff in my band. Hated the piezo Sound.
IRs might have saved the guitar but that Kind of technology was years away at that point in time.
Cool! I like it.
How does it compare to the godin multiac though
The Godun actually sounds good.
So far I keep hearing everyone playing a sort of progressive flamenco style on this model .. and always with a thumb pick. I’d love to hear other genres, not even remotely classical on it. I love a thumb pick on an acoustic, but can we ditch the thumb pick on this one?
A great sounding guitar. Very nicely played too.
It sounded horrible, what video were you watching?
@@channtastic Anything that produces a sound has potential if you're going to completely alter it in production.
i would like to see a fret less version of this
Poor Ben was struggling at the end to find a selling point for this guitar.
I don’t think he liked it
@@alexanderdeadmansche
It’s crap.
What a player!
I think the body should be deeper imo. You'd get a much better sound and resonance. Nice looking guitar, and I have always liked fishman pickups.
Not really looking for resonance when going electro-acoustic. Look at similar Godin guitars, for example. Not my style of guitars, but they have their niche.
Well, it was an Ibanez/Tim Henson design venture. If you're familiar with Polyphia (the band Tim is in) you know that their music is highly processed and produced. Tim is as much a sound engineer as he is a guitar player. He designed this with his unique playing styles and purposes in mind. He can use post processing to make it sound as thick as he wants it to. His music and sound are increasingly popular and Ibanez isn't going to pass up the opportunity to sell his fans a signature model even if it is a one trick pony without the aid of high end processing/recording equipment. It's a cool looking guitar in my opinion. Personally, I'd buy it based on appearances alone, but I like the wider nut and the nylon string sound also.
Does this mean I will get mine that I ordered from Anderton's in January? Its been delayed twice and not due until 9th June!
Hmmm, that sweet sound of something that cost sixty quid from Argos
There have been many many guitars by many companies doing the same exact thing. Nylon strings on a guitar that feels like an electric with piezo pick up what I would like to see is a guitar that actually sounds like an acoustic nylon. I don’t get the hype.
I have that guitar and play it through my Rammstein pedal (Tech 21 Paul Landers Fly Rig) in the Wasser settings with delay on. It sounds great.
It also feels great.
Almost pulled the trigger on the non-signature one but is just sounds kinda dead and dull to me. I’ve heard one clip in a lo-fi context where it’s unique sound fits great but for anything else it just sounds choked imo. I’m sure it plays great, clearly looks great and the price is ok for the non signature one.
Polyphia are highly technical but after a while it sounds really monochrome, one shade of grey
Pretty awesome guitar!
?
Sounds like it's being amplified through an overloaded 1" transistor radio speaker
Encased in an empty coffee can.
Functional wise, seems great! Sound wise, not too impressed.
wonder how this stacks up to the similarly priced/style cordoba stage guitar
That dawg, won't hunt...
That opening lick sounded a little liek Stanley Jordan.. what was it?
Can't believe they called it Todd
Fittingly, „Tod“ also means „death“ in German.
I prefer the Cordoba Stage guitar
Sounds just like a Godin Acousticaster nylon string. I heard much complaints about the bad intonation of the Ibanez nylon string though. That would be a deal breaker for me.
Back in June I ordered two of these from two separate companies just to maximize my chances of getting points quickly as possible. I just got the second one in and I’m planning to sell it to a friend who wanted one the first one that came in had perfect intonation right out of the box. The second had a minor issue that took me about 11 seconds to rectify. Don’t let those intonation issues scare you off. They’re usually just a matter of set up (atleast the ones being delivered now) my bigger issues were the small cosmetic problems than mine came with. But these are all things I can live with.
@@Physticuffs How do you correct intonation on that fixed bridge? I don't think it's possible....
@@barendtromp it’s absolutely possible. It just depends on what is causing the issue. In my case it was a very simple fix.
@@Physticuffs But how is it possible with a fixed bridge? Can you tell me what you did exactly? thanks
@@barendtromp sure. There are a bunch of things that can cause the intonation to be off. It’s not necessarily the nut being in the wrong place. In my case, the internation was noticeably off, but it wasn’t catastrophic. So I checked out the nut and realized that the G and e strings looked a little high in the nut, so I loosen the strings and ran a file along the nut slot to cut it properly. Tuned it back up, and the intonation was perfect. Or at least very close to perfect to the point where I can’t even tell any more. Also, I’ve heard some people say that if nylon strings, I’ve been overtightened at any point it can over stretch the string which will cause intonation issues. I haven’t experienced that one myself but it’s something you could look at if you’re having internation issues. Always start with the easiest thing first.
Was going to say nice playing but seems like the wrong crowd lol 😂
Seems I’ve wondered into the tim Henson hate club.
Don't think anyone's hating on Tim Henson; it's just the guitar sounds horrible.
It’s just a dead and buzzy guitar.
Sounds bad to me, but I'm no nlyon string player. Ben is still great.
No keep playing! That was groovy af!
You sound beautiful !
Hey at least it didn't come to pieces while he was playing it - several people who've bought the black one have had the bridge simply come off when they restring it.
I think there are a few more guitars Ibanez should reissue at least some form of - I have a 7 string Ibanez acoustic that is an amazing player and has a gigantic voice; I posted it on reddit and people were drooling just because such a thing has existed.
I think the controls for the pickup isn't in the best place on the guitar and to my ears it didn't sound great but I guess you really need to be in the room to decide that
This feels like an attempt to make it sound underwhelming so Andertons can start selling a few Cordobas 😂 People keep asking for this guitar despite being sold out. I'd probably get the Cordoba on reputation alone, but oddly enough, every other review made the TOD10N sound very good! I like Ben but with what they have in that room, he could have set up his sound much better.
Now hate me
Cordoba has an internal mike I think it helps a lot
To be honest, I don't think they're sold out. One it could be a marketing ploy to promote want. That's marketing 1.01
But I suspect, having spent 20yrs in retail, that they recalled them and are fixing whatever the problem with bridges was. I'd bet when they reappear, they will be less problematic. That's basic manufacturing.
Who's to even say that sounds bad. A sound is a sound. THAT specific sound might inspire someone to write the next hallelujah for all we know.
People seem to forget that music, and sound perception are largely subjective. Distortion was an unintended and originally unwelcome side effect of driving valve amps too hard. Hell, look at the stick Dylan took for going electric. To the right people this guitar will be amazing.
Is that Walnut (Canadian Rosewood) on the bridge?

A useful test would have been without picks ... purely finger-picked. I rarely play a classical guitar with pickups; produces a nasally sound rather than the fuller sound I prefer.
Everytime I hear the uk proces I wince, Canadian you add about 300 to that price. "Affordable" gear here is about 1k average 😅

I really doubt that Trigger sounds particularly good unamplified. It's more air than guitar. I'd rather have an intact soundboard, personally. 🤣
@@Vykk_Draygo
Trigger sounds surprisingly good unplugged.
This thing, not at all.
There is a trade off with electric nylon guitars...too many nuances to get into here, but if you process the sound, these guitars will sound incredible. The best analogy would be to say that the difference between a real saxophone and a plastic saxophone is like a real classical guitar is to an electric classical nylon guitar. In both examples, both instruments are two completely different animals. So you decide how you want to handle the trade off.
A good price but it's not something I would like to own. In my very humble opinion it came across as a bit of a jack of all trades, master of none.
No thanks. That is not a sound I am chasing.
I doesn't have a neck tattoo, no deal.
To top off everyone walking about the tone in the comments, for a lot of people got one, the bridge isn’t properly glued on so a lot of people end up with a guitar with a detached bridge
It probably sounds better that way.
What kind of title is this?
Sounds roughly as bad as the similar Gibsons I remember from the 80s that died off after Chet stopped using them..
ima be honest, I don't know if it's the way you dialed the sound or this particular example of the guitar, but it sounds pretty bad here
Everyone talking about Tim Henson but I feel like none of them are fans. Guitarists know that what he does is hard and that’s about it. I tried listening to some polyphia and it’s just not for me. It’s fancy sure, but also quickly boring in a weird way. Just my subjective opinion, not trying to hate. His skill level is definitely 10/10.
Well for me it's not about Tim. This guitar here sounds like crap but that's got nothing to do with his playing or his music. Not really a fan either but I have no hate for the guy, just the sound of this guitar here ;)
My acid test question is, "Could I sit through two 45 min sets of this?" A lot of players whose skills I'm in awe of fail this test.
I will add that seeing an up and coming guitar god is always cause for a 👍
