    Virgin Oak and Scotch do not play well together in my experience; especially with young malts.

      @@swedishwhiskygirl The one which immediately comes to mind is GlenAllachie 12 (first release), and the more obvious one, Deanston Virgin Oak. The VO just applies too thick a layer of that caramel to malt spirit, and I can almost always detect something too flowery when the two interact.

      Ah interesting! I’d love to do a side by side comparison of expressions with the influence of new oak to see the differences and similarities more clearly.
