31:15- It still baffles the mind that they actually fired and blacklisted that girl who parried the chair. Imagine that for you to keep your job, you had to have taken the hit, but instead you protected yourself and you apparently got fired because of that. This world we live in...
That’s not what happened. She quit several months later because she didn’t feel safe at the location. She found out she was blacklisted once she tried to apply at a different location a couple months after that. Which could be for a number of reasons, not giving notice before quitting or her throwing a sugar container at the customers in the same video.
"there are so many sf6 isms in this game" lol I was saying that about sf6 when compared to snk games. Many of the mechanics in 4 5 and 6 are things very similar to older SNK games. Which makes sense since dimps usually have their hands on the newer sf games.
Not sure I agree, re: a lot of SNK in SF4/5/6. SF4 has some Rumble Fish in it with the Ultras/Defensive Supers (Samurai Shodown Rage gauge is close but not quite there), but most of the mechanics are SF2/3 based. SFV has Vampire Saviour Dark Forces and Alpha Counters. I *guess* V-Shift is kinda like GUard Cancel Rolls in KoF, though that's somewhat of a stretch since V-Shift can also attack, not just evade. SF6 is a refinement of stuff from SF2/3/4/5 and Alpha really. And while some say EX/OD Specials came from Art of Fighting, I don't agree. Art of Fighting used Spirit Gauge for Specials, period. No Spirit Gauge, no Specials. So they're closer to modern Supers in that regard. EX/OD Moves, as currently used, came from Dark Stalker series, where you had your Special MOves and then Enhanced Special MOves that required super gauge. And even then, Capcom has now separated the resource for EX Specials from Supers, which I don't think has been done before (someone correct me if I'm wrong please), but now SNK is following suit in COTW with Rev Gauge (and MOTW didn't even have EX Specials). So yeah. I don't think there's a lot of SNK mechanics in SF4/5/6 that weren't in SF/Capcom games originally.
Throws are quite scary actually in 2019 samsho, look at the most recent Tampa Never Sleeps Samsho tournament and you'll see them all the time to close out rounds
Tekken 6 had a Church's Chicken logo easily visible during one of the Scenario Campaign cutscenes so a Waffle House stage in Tekken 8 is not ... impossible
Starting with a full meter that burns out dates all the way back to Art of Fighting 1. Most recently it appeared in SNK Heroines, which also had "modern" controls. As for what naming convention they should use in the new Garou game for these controls, given the Rev theme I was thinking maybe they could do something with MT and AT (manual transmission and automatic transmission). I believe what they're actually calling them right now is "smart" controls, which I don't think is the way to go. You can call my control preference classic, but don't call it stupid.
best part about the Azucena "nerf" is that she has a parry with her back turned, so even if you somehow manage to reach her after she whiffes running 1+2, she can just dodge on command
I actually love that SnK decided to not only stick to the typical fireball/DP motions only. Like, I'm not asking to everything being pretzel motions but it's nice seeing more variety in modern fighting games. And when there is thought put into more unconventional motions, they are super fun to do as well.
20:00 From what I've read (I only really play w/ my friends as opposed to Ranked/Quick, so I haven't run into an Eddy yet) it is not a bug. The game specifically points out that you didn't buy the character and therefore aren't allowed to do replay takeover.
Could you guys make an episode of you discussing how to choose a character for a fighting game and how to determine if a character is "for you"? Love the podcast a lot
3:00 when Justin Wong mentioned the 5-0 as well in my mind I was thinking too much perspective popping up Five-0 and I was like wait what the cops involved in this RedBull Kumite like this some next level of tournament for street fighter 😂
@user-py8kj5ve4y Who knows? If SNK can nail the Rollback and matchmaking; boom. Also, SNK did say this is the last fighting game they'll make for a little while as they want to focus reviving their older IPs. So, SNK is hard at work with this game.
The challenge of recent SNK games is to attract casual or/and non-fighting game buyers. MK has the fatalities and guests, T8 has the outlandish yet realism thing going and SF6 has insane fan art (of...various kinds) appeal. SNK need to find whats going to attract those two groups with this game and market accordingly.
I'm not sure if anyone else noted it here, but the venue for early Akuma is in Lagunasia around Nagoya. It's part of that real life Battle Hub you guys might have heard about a couple months ago. I live here and even I don't know if I'll go since it will be right in the middle of Golden Week.
Throws in SamSho are only 3f startup, faster by far than just about everything in the game. They a 2 button input, or 1 button with the macro. They're also also untechable and let you combo into supers which disarm. Can't really call them bad even if the whiff is long, just means you can't use them predictably.
All that KI stuff being free is wild, but not surprised that it was followed-up with it being the last update. Hopefully they meet whatever expectations they are hoping for.
Speaking of older characters, I assume there will be Fatal Fury characters in the game, even if they were not in Garou MotW. That would make sense to attract the attention of players familiar with them from KoF even if they have aren't familiar with old school SNK. But if they do, I hope they get new designs in the same way Terry did from FF to Garou. Since Garou Takes place years after Fatal Fury 3, it would be disappointing if they just went "here's Kim, he looks the same as usual." Also older Ryo as Mr. Karate II would be sick. The priority should still go to Garou characters, though.
First step, balance patch and tweaking KI. Gauge PC interest. Success. Second step, PS5 port. Pending. When Phil started talking of MS porting older games to new platforms KI was my instant slam dunk thought. It's a perfect fit. People love it, they've already been revisiting it and PlayStation has been the defacto "fighting game console" for ages. It'd probably outsell my beloved UNI. Maybe even Strive. Step three, new game.

At least Fornite is free, what excuse does these 60-70 dollar (only the standard edition btw, 100+ for the ultimate edition) games has aside from they need insane profits instead of only some profits?
As others have stated, throws in Samurai Shodown 2019 were done with CD and were actually very dangerous. But CD to throw was in Samurai Shodown Zero Special (and BC was used in Samurai Shodown Tenka), so that's not new. Otherwise, the last SNK fighter that used two button throw inputs that I know of is SvC Chaos. I also know of no other SNK fighter that uses two button throw inputs.
Yea, Waffle House might never be on board, but ... what if as part of the deal, every waffle house gets a special tekken 8 arcade cabinet inside ... "In partnership with Tekken, we are encouraging late night diners at Waffle House to settle their disputes in Tekken instead of with their fists."
The main reason the waffle level discussion came about besides the fights, a particular fight became legendary in the waffle house a customer threw a chair at a waffle house waitress and she caught the chair.......WITH ONE HAND. It was like something outtve a action movie
SamSho 2019 throws are C+D (Heavy + Kick). Throws are not bad in SamSho at all - they can open you up for very big hits with scaled damage, so while you may not eat the full force of a weapon flip technique, you’ll still lose your sword and eat 60~70% of that hit’s damage.

It’s a thought but I don’t think SF has ever had a universal air dash mechanic, that’s crazy to think about. Drive Rush is kicking everybody’s ass on the ground, air drive rush sounds treacherous
God I hope not. Air parries was one of the reasons SF3 series is so stupid fundamentally. Parries are much more balanced in SF6 and don't make projectiles completely useless. Air parries in SF6 would just make rushing in even more unga bunga and you don't have something like universal air throws to balance it out.

2xko isn't gonna be popular with the league audience if they don't want to target the league audience.
