    My friend grew up with the Rammstein guys in East Germany. East Germany was very isolated from the developed West. They had to aim radio antennas a certain direction in secret to pick up signals. This is when they heard rock and roll for the first time. The rest is history.

Craziest one my dad told me was a "German" guard was chatting him up while he was detained awaiting clearance to pass back through the corridor, when my dad was debriefed after getting back (he was intel comms), it turned out the guard was a high ranking KGB officer. My dad was instructed to try and not let the guy know he knew the truth if he saw him again, as they would get my dad restationed over diplomatic antics, my dad did see him a few more times. I remember being at the wall as a kid, I was there sometime around 82-85. I’ll always remember looking into East Germany and thinking it looked so lonely, and it was if the sun was shining bright in Berlin, and it was cold and dreary behind the wall.
    We were a bunch of punk ass military kids traveling to Berlin from Stuttgart by train for some reason I can’t remember. So as soon as we were in East Germany we got the bright idea to throw bottles and stuff off the train. Then the train started to stop, we didn’t know why. We pulled into a train station and there were soldiers everywhere with guns, we thought holy crap, they are going to arrest us for throwing bottles off the train and we will be trapped in East Germany forever. The soldiers walked all along the train, some came on board and they were checking who everyone was. Little did we know they were inspecting the train for East Germans trying to escape.
    With all that being said, I have a lot of respect for the guys in rammstein and all East Germans, I saw where they lived.

    • @Namkify
      @Namkify Před 2 lety

      damn right because: "A communist society is characterized by common ownership of the means of production with free access to the articles of consumption and is classless, stateless, and moneyless, implying the end of the exploitation of labour."

    • @TheHeartlessFour
      @TheHeartlessFour Před 2 lety

      I mean it was, and it wasn’t. They didn’t abolish money, or the class system, of even the state. The means of production belonged to a different type of elites, instead of the workers. As far as I’m concerned the Soviet Union, and it’s puppet states were more like fascistic state capitalist, with some red paint splashed on it.

    • @mikevoisine2886
      @mikevoisine2886 Před 2 lety

      @@TheHeartlessFour Bottom line is, communism looks like a beautiful utopia on paper but it's never worked and never will because it completely ignores the Human Nature factor. Democracy and free trade, free enterprise Capitalism might not be perfect but it seems to be the only system that has worked so far. If there is a new way that's actually works better for everyone, I'll be the first in line.
