    Thanks for that. it actually worked. For some time, I have been using OneDrive between different computers, and now I can use these files on Linux. Great job. I had a problem at the beginning with pacman. I am using Linux Mint and it installed the game pacman. I went to Software Manager to install rclone. That then worked in Terminal. And thanks for including the steps on your website. I only just saw that. I just rebooted the computer, and it works, as you said. Thanks.

    Thank you so much for this tutorial. Got a little stacked at the end. Since I'm using Gnome I couldn't see the option to add custom commands to run in the start up.
    This worked for me:
    Create a file called "onedrive.desktop" (or whatever you want to name it) in /config/autostart . The file should look like this:
    [Desktop Entry]
    Name=Mount OneDrive (or whatever you want)
    Comment=Mount OneDrive in file system in Fedora (or whatever you want)
    Terminal=false
    Exec=sh -c "rclone --vfs-cache-mode writes mount onedrive: ~/OneDrive" (or the name of your folder)
    Type=Application
    Voila

    Excellent presentation by someone who clearly knows what they are doing. These instructions work. One 'glitchette' when using Libre office however, when a document is selected from the onedrive view, it will initially fail with an I/O error - however, when the same document is immediately selected again, then it works fine. Beware however when using Libre Office with Onedrive on Linux when using documents with links to other documents. I'm sure between them that Libre Office and Rclone will sort this out.

So basically I have just added "-dir-perms 0775 --file-perms 0775" at the end of the command. The whole command that you specify as a start-up application should be:
    sh -c "rclone --vfs-cache-mode writes mount OneDrive: ~/OneDrive --dir-perms 0775 --file-perms 0775"

    Hello Fairly Basic Tech. Thank so much for your clear step-by-step video. I have just successful completed your instructions on a RaspBerry Pi4 running Ubuntu 21.04. Only a suggestion to make this video even better. You know Pi4 have small amounts of "Hard Disk Space" so you should also address questions on how to config on-demand files/directories so that we do not run out of space if one drive decides to sync all 1T content we have on cloud.

    A side note. Eventually, I have problems after closing the command.

      It makes it easier to access when the drive is automatically mounted at startup, but it's certainly not required. If you'd rather not have it automount, you'd just need to manually mount the drive before using it after each reboot.

    I tested this application for a while and I found it very slow in navigation and opening the documents. I was frustrated until I discovered Onedrive GUI. This sw it’s based on onedrive but all the configuration is made over gui which it’s very similar to Microsoft’s. This method is more fast and the navigation it much more fluid.

Will it auto sync with my existing One Drive Directory in Win 10, if they are on the same Microsoft account? Or 3) do I have to transfer existing files manually..if so what is the best method for about 200 folders & files?

    Thx, I was looking for something like this for so long. Basically one tool that can mount different cloud-services and it is so easy to setup, even though it doesnt has a GUI. Only thing Iam concerned, are the files that are mounted stored on the hard drive, so are they constantly taking space? Or can you choose to download/keep specific files just like in the native clients (e.g. for windows)?

    • @FairlyBasicTech
      @FairlyBasicTech  Před 4 lety +2

      Thanks! By default, this method does not make a local copy of the files, so no additional storage space is taken up on your computer. If you want a local copy, Rclone has further options that can do that. See rclone.org/commands/rclone_copy/ . Just be careful using this functionality because it's awful easy to accidentally delete something online when syncing this way.

    edit: also, is it ok to shut the terminal when the command is running? doesn't that affect future runs?
    update: I deleted and recreated the onedrive remote and it worked again. I think if I reboot I will have to do this over again. might create a script that does this every reboot

    • @FairlyBasicTech
      @FairlyBasicTech  Před 4 lety

      Yes. It essentially works like mounting a network drive. Anything you put in the folder is uploaded to the cloud, and anything put in your cloud storage from another device will show in your OneDrive folder. The only catch in setting it up this way is that you have to be online to access the OneDrive share. This method does not create a local copy that will be accessible offline.
