- Rachel Zegler helped debut a first look at the upcoming live-action ‘Snow White’ at D23 Expo 2022! She spoke to ‘Extra’s’ Katie Krause about how this version updates the original. She also dished on the ‘Hunger Games’ prequel ‘The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes’ and said she’d love to meet Jennifer Lawrence!

I'm just impressed with how quickly and easily she gets new roles despite the fact that her very first big film has already failed, and the second is on the way to it.

She admitted in another interview she only watched Snow White once so her memories of the prince being a stalker are obviously nonsense she's spouting.
I can only assume she's confused and misremembering the prince and the huntsman as the same character.

@@JTUntamed The way she says it, her inflection and facial expressions as she says it all indicate that she thinks being motivated by love would be a negative thing and it's far better it's ''modernized'' for her to instead only care about being a powerful leader. Can't you read body language when people talk? it comes across pretty obvious in the interviews where she mentions it.
what rubs me the wrong way isn't even that there isn't going to be a love story but that she said "it's really really wonderful" there won't be a love story as if having a love story is a bad thing.

what really interests me in these so called PC movies is that the main actors and actresses do not try to fit in their roles and just try to be themselves. They always force everyone else to accept for who they already are, not for the role they are playing.

One of the biggest problems of her is the way she speaks. People who convey the same ideas with a completely different and more staid tone would get less dislike for sure. She just sounds like she is so awesome and everything she says is awesome. People can be bad at organizing their thoughts into reasonable words and make mistakes when they are saying things out loud but good at talking about their inappropriate ideas in a more humble tone, unlike Rachel Zegler, who is bad at both.
I think people, especially Boomers, are just terrible at interpreting Gen Z tones. I don't see anything of narcissism or lack of humility in her utterances, it's just a way of expressing that's different from the norm - appearing at first glance to be egocentric, it's more just an expression of confidence and being in vogue rather than an unwillingness to listen to others. Truth be told I think this manner of speaking only frustrates older generations with extremely sensitive egos that can't stand someone that is both young and what they see as overly confident marching into the scene and defying norms and traditions. Many of us are looking at it and thinking it's awesome to see the difference and something new.

She is confident which is great but she comes off as condescending as if the original is an inferior product as opposed to saying that they want to expand upon a different aspect of the character. She is just not expressing that, her tone and confidence is coming off as arrogance and obnoxious. Which is a shame because I do think she’s a good actress
@@Arroyo2099I don't see it as "the original is inferior," but I do think it's a general truism that ideas and concepts and culture fade over time. Maybe Shakespeare doesn't go away, but there are themes and ideas that get old enough where we reasonably poke at them - not condescending to say that we adapt over time, and that even our current works will one day be outmoded completely.
@@VesperAegis Oh i totally agree unfortunately Rachel is not getting that point across. The impression she is giving is of arrogance and judgment regarding the source material. I think a great example of a film that is doing what she is trying to go for is the Cinderella remake "Ever After". I wish more of those fairy tale remakes were more like that. Although I could have done without the Leanardo Davinci part of that movie.

Reimagining old concepts and films is fine but what's with the condescending attitude? It feels like instead of trying to make an interesting new version of a century old movie it's more of a vanity project to them. No matter how good your message is it won't land if you deliver it poorly.

I’m so pleased that Rachel Ziegler triggers manbabies by explaining them that their beloved classic from 1937 contains problematic aspects that should be corrected in the new remake (I mean, this is the point of the Disney remake, to make the story better).
How is everyone shocked to hear that when it’s been since Beauty and the Beast that the « good-looking creepy prince » from the pre-renaissance era is deconstructed to become the main villain there.
Also I don’t get why everyone is offended that an actress makes fun of the story of Snow White when the whole purposes of remakes like Beauty and the Beast, Lion King, and Aladin, is to make the exact same thing but with corrections of the plot holes and weakness of the first movies.

I would like to know what “problematic aspects” you’re seeing in these old classics. Sure, they’re not perfect. But as these remakes are “attempting” to “correct” these weak points, they actually insert modern mainstream propaganda and turn a simple story with a message into an undermining mess instead of letting a story breathe and come alive. I don’t see anything of the original Snow White being problematic. She is a kind and beautiful princess who is envied by her step-mother. The “fairest” of the land isn’t because Snow White is the most beautiful. It’s literally because her beauty is found within. Her character, her kindness, her willingness to change and show compassion to others when they don't deserve it IS what makes her beautiful. She’s a young girl dreaming of true love and a prince. And her dream comes true. It’s a classic fairytale for crying out loud! It’s THE fairytale that began this stereotype of girls dreaming of a prince and true love. Snow White never wanted to be a leader. She didn’t dismiss or think the prince was “stalking” her. In the original, the Prince joins in song with her. She is frightened at first but realizes that he is her true love. This wasn't a one-sided relationship. It was two people discovering each other and celebrating it through song.
So yes, I completely understand why people are upset because the actress of this modern take of Snow White does not understand the dignity and gravitas of the original classic 1937 tale and its impact not only in the film industry but storytelling in general. Zegler dismisses it as “outdated” and “weird”, when this movie’s themes and message could not be more relevant and relatable today. We need to be kind to those around us even those who hate us. That’s true beauty.

Yes, Snow White the original movie has a great outline of a story, with very colourful animation which becomes frightening from times to times, and the songs are amazing (despite some of the lyrics). So I can understand why people are upset that she criticises their movie. But you can’t blame a 21th century woman not to be in love with a movie where the princess get married to a prince she met for 1 minute and a half.
I don’t consider it to be very problematic but more of a standard of an old age not accurate anymore. But I don’t get why everyone is shocked by this when the remakes that blew up at the box office are the ones who took into account the critics of internet (“Belle isn’t progressive enough ? Okay so now we make her teach another girl to read, and we make her invent the washing machine !”)
No, I don't blame her. We all enjoy watching a romance story develop instead of a romance story that's 2 minutes long. However, the issue I have is the way Zegler handled the comparison of the old classic to the new modern take. She handles it with disrespect by calling it "outdated" which is "evidently so". She could have explained that the original had classic fairytale hallmarks in it, but this modern take takes a spin on the classic tale. Instead of dreaming of true love, Snow White wants to push the boundaries of what young girls are capable of doing vs what they "should be" doing.
Her attitude toward the original movie is akin to that of bratty smug teenager looking at a pager from the early 90s and saying how its absolutely boring and outdating and not necessary since we don't live in that era anymore. I'm not asking for Zegler to worship the original and sing its praises but at least have some respect when talking about it for it IS the reason why you have this role. Without the precedented original story, she wouldn't never had this role in the first place. Heck, without that story, Disney would not have even existed.
The whole "re-inventing Disney princesses with progressive ideals" is a different story in my opinion and I would personally rather have Disney invent new stories instead of rehashing these old ones but updating it for a modern audience.
I can't wait to see Rachel Zegler in the second remake of Maniac... wait. Snow White? Why is she talking about Maniac 1980? Like, I just don't think she's talking about Snow White? There's a whopping two scenes with the prince. He serenades her with a song. She's embarrassed about her tattered clothing. She none the less musters courage to face him. Kisses a pigeon, sends it over, the pigeon blushes, kisses the prince, and then she lovingly smiles and closes the courtains. This isn't fucking Maniac 1980!!!
I can only hope this kills her so called career and as she falls she drags Disney down with her.
