You'd just want to make sure it had some type of contrast or it would look like a weird patch. In this case they did a different texture/pattern by overlaying the lace. I like the idea of a floral print like the other poster said (the one with the broken cap lock button).
I'm a professional seamstress & I didn't like the lace, either! If it was "tied in" like on a pocket or a decorative touch elsewhere maybe I'd have been more receptive! But it was a good common sense way to expand the waistband!!
Yeah, that confused me too. She started out with a piece of dark denim. Why not just stick with that? I don't understand. That would have given it a more natural look.

Why the heck would you use Guipure lace? The idea is good but I wouldn’t want some weird white patch on the back of my jeans. How about cutting the bottom of the jeans to make them cropped and use the cut fabric instead?
@@ericacousins9786 it’s an option dear. If you think you can keep you waistline, then there’s no need to be stretchable. If you want to prepare for possible additional measurement, then better the stretchy cloth.
I'm just going to add a quick comment here for all the people saying to just lose weight or buy more jeans. I know most people aren't going to read this due to the length of the post or because they don't care, but still. And I apologize in advance for any mistakes. This was done with speech to text and it likes to edit things or leave things out randomly. But I can't really edit them easily because my allergies are making my eyesight awful at the moment. Both of those are expensive options for people who don't have money. 95% of people who lose weight through dieting regain it within a year to two years because dieting only temporarily fixes those sorts of issues, and that's for the people who are actually capable of losing weight through dieting which is not as many people as you might think. And that's to say nothing of the fact that you have to be able to afford to diet in the first place which is not an affordable option for most people considering how much healthy food costs. That's also to say nothing of weight gained during pregnancy if you choose to have children or as a result of surgeries or operations that might cause swelling or other issues like lose muscles in the abdomen. And if you're trying to lose weight, you still need to be able to wear clothes in the meantime and most people can't just go out and buy a full new wardrobe as expensive as everything is now while they're doing that just for them to not be able to wear those clothes again after they lose the weight if they lose weight. If you're poor and can't just go out and buy another pair of jeans, this isn't a bad idea. I would just change the fabric to actually match or find a different cheap method of making the jeans fit. They probably fit when they bought them in the first place. I grew up wearing thrift store clothes. We had to make adjustments to them all the time to him them up in the leg so that they would be short enough and then let the seam down when I got older. There's nothing wrong with that. And besides, fast fashion is awful anyway. And that's to say nothing of the fact that a lot of clothes that are donated nowadays just get tossed out, anyway. A lot of people are still hemming or adjusting their own clothes. I'm literally 25 and grew up in the early 2000s having this done. It's not like this is some weird out of the ordinary idea. I don't know if the way she's doing it is typical, but the idea isn't strange at all. But you certainly would think it was based off of the sheer number of people who are utterly bewildered by the idea of adjusting clothing instead of just replacing them. How much you weigh and what methods are best for you to lose weight if that's what you're trying to do or between you and possibly a doctor. That's no one else's business. Being skinny isn't necessarily good for your health, either. Your height also plays a part in how clothing fits. Two people can be the same height and the same weight and fit totally different clothes, so this could be useful to make clothing fit better after you get taller as a teenager or something like that as well. Your health and appearance is not the business of other people. And your parents does not even necessarily mean that you are or aren't healthy. Too many people associate skinniness with being in good health when that isn't always the case, just like how being heavier doesn't always mean that you were in bad health. There are a lot of factors that go into it so just telling people to "lose weight" isn't a solution for anything besides fitting in the pants in the short term. Typically you need lifestyle changes or possibly medications and it's up to the individual to decide if those are things they want to do. In the meantime, there's nothing wrong with wanting pants that fit right, especially if you've just suddenly gained weight and just need your clothes to fit so you can go about your life and don't have the money to go out and buy a bunch of new ones. People used to fix their clothes all the time. And that was in very recent history. We're talking as early as the '80s that the idea of all this fast fashion and going to the store and just buying new clothes every time they wear out came into mind. Only a little while before we were born it was totally normal to just adjust your own clothes, and there's nothing wrong with doing that. And that was for all body sizes be short, tall, heavy, or thin. I personally just lost 15 lb in the last 3 months due to health problems. Before that my metabolism had suddenly disappeared after I had been skinny my entire life in high school. It happens. That's no one else's business, and it's not something that you should be judging people for. We don't know the entire life story of people and why they are or aren't a certain way. If they wish to share that with you, then that's totally fine. But there is no one size fits all solution to anything, least of all the health and well-being of individual people. I'm not personally a fan of this design, but I'm sure it could be helpful for someone. In the meantime, remember to just be kind to people. Everyone is going through a lot. And if you can't muster the basic human decency to do that much, at least keep your harmful opinions to yourself. Believe me, the people you're saying this to have heard it a thousand times. They don't need to hear it a thousand and one. I've watched too many of my relatives do things like take medications when they were younger at the then cause them weight issues later in life (The depo shot) or be totally skinny and then they're thyroid give out on them (Like my mother) or even my own health issues. It's just not your business. We don't know what's going on in other people's lives, and unless they want us to, we don't need to. Be mindful of what you say to others. You might be kicking someone further down the stairs who's just barely struggling to climb up the beach day in the first place. The world has enough negativity in it. You don't have to add to it. If you are fortunate enough for your weight not to be something you have to struggle with, be thankful for that. But don't weaponize it against others. Please.
I mean you probably could have condensed your thoughts. :P I'd add that some people like me, our body shape does not fit ready-made clothes so you have to figure out ways to alter it. I usually have the opposite problem store-bought pants that fit my thighs don't fit my waist! But there are those that have the issue of if they find something if it's their legs they're wasting to be bigger. Heaters can go elsewhere. Plus it's a cute way to make it your own!

This is not a proper fix. Cutting through the waistband and straight down into the back fabric?! No experienced seamstress would do that. Proper sewing by someone who actually knows how to sew is to carefully remove the waistband and open the side seams, add extra material or matching color elastic, then reassemble. Alternatively, carefully open the zipper seams, remove zipper, add elastic fabric and resew, hiding the addition.
The idea is good. Maybe the lace is just so the technique is easy to see???? Otherwise 2 inserts of white lace just screams to everyone "I'm too fat to wear my jeans!!!!"
