Collin decdied to replace his $1000 Honda Civic with a much much cooler $1000 daily driver. Meet his new Lexus LS400. It has only traveled 188k miles, and was only $1000! It's obviously not going to be perfect, but lets see what is wrong with it, and also some of the really cool features! Really looking forward to making more videos with this, makes me want to get a cool super cheap car.

I have a 1998 LS 400 I've been driving since I was 16. I'm 27 and still love this car and can't get rid of it. I have almost 300k miles on it. They actually go past a million miles and people just get rid of them around 500k just because they want a new one. I really want a truck, but I cannot get rid of the reliability and drive quality of this car. Plus it has sentimental value bc my mom got it for me and she passed 7 years ago. She got a deal on it used when it was 10 years old.
If I have a son, I want him to drive this car. I'm going to run it until the wheels fall off. I also heard a rumor from a guy that worked at toyota that if you put 1 million miles on this car that Lexus will give you a current version model of the car possible in exchange for your million mile car. Not sure how true that is.

Hey beautiful, always a big fan of the LS 400 since I worked as a porter for the Lexus dealer here in Michigan. By the way FIY it is a 4.0 liter v8 , and around 01/02' it became the 4.3 v8 hence the the model name LS 430, so your model number denotes your engine in liters example, GS 300 3.0 liter inline 6, es300 3.0 v6 , sc 400 4.0 v8. But anyhow, and congrats man considering an LS after having many other used cars , those have been one of my favorite cars of all times thanx for sharing

Still drives beautifully but soon it will need a new starter motor, now that is not something to look forward to, it is under the inlet manifold so all the middle of the motor has to come off the top and the starter motor is deep down inside. I am sure they did that to make people like me very happy,,,, not. but well worth fixing and bringing up to a high standard regardless of the mileage. Hope you enjoy it and keep it a long time.

The base 1uzfe is extremely strong, fully forged crank forged rods, they'll take 1000 hp with proper upgrades built on top of the block as these engine blocks were built with expressed approval for Indy car races which never actually happened on the Toyota project at the time back then, so here is where they landed in the big luxury LS 400's. Basically it explains why the starter is where it is for the most part, it's origination was a race bred design, tamed down to fit nicely in luxury cars.

I bought my LS400 3 months ago. It's also a 1998 model, but here in the UK they ALL came out with the touchscreen unit. I paid the equivalent of around $1.750, and since then had to weld the roof as it rains a lot here and it rusted through just above the windscreen. New windscreen was installed too, some new trims etc. A bill of about $1.300. Then 2 weeks later the alternator and battery died the same day. New battery and rebuilt alternator set me back around $250. Considering that a good example would cost around $5.000 here, I call that a win. The only thing that needs done now is the backlight on a couple of small LCD's around the Sat-Nav, but I know a guy who said he would do the full LED conversion of all buttons and LCD's for around $120. Not bad at all.
