    Thank you m8! I will try this with the Abu Garcia vendetta to get the seat and lock to use on another rod.

    You can also hold it over a pan of boiling water for a few minutes. The reel seat will be reusable.

      Thanks Jerry. It's sure beats my grinding out the seat like I did last time. Save time and cleaning up the mess afterward. The lakes and ponds are iced over. Can't fish now😔

    Will this work with a plastic reel seat ?

    • @pakde8002
      @pakde8002 Před 2 lety

      By plastic I assume you mean graphite or nylon. If it's a store bought rod and the reel seat is actually plastic then you should probably throw the rod away 😂 Otherwise it's safe to use heat to soften the epoxy, just don't get crazy with it. A better option might be holding the reel seat an inch or so over a pan full of rapidly boiling water. Be sure to grab the hot reel seat with an oven mitt or thick towel.

    Let me understand, this procedure saves both reel seat and rod blank (in case my blank is not broken like yours)?

    • @GillsNThrillsFishing
      @GillsNThrillsFishing  Před 2 lety

      Depend on your blank material. Technically yes to both but how are you going to fit your blank into an oven? Thanks for watching.

      @@GillsNThrillsFishing yes, I would put the blank into the oven too (oven door wuokd be slightly open)

    Has a anyone ever tried boiling water? Thinking about using boiling water to remove a Winn grip.

      Had tried with boiling water for reel seat salvaging, work perfectly without defects on the reel seat. It'll take much longer than this oven method though.
