It's been 3 years since I last went to an NBA game but this game is the reason to this day, you can't buy a beer in the 4th quarter. The Pistons were the defending champions and pulled off 2 big upsets the previous season; The Pacers had the best regular season record and Ron Artest was DPOY and the Lakers had the best team on paper in NBA history. If this didn't happen, the Pacers would have met the Spurs in the Finals, but the Spurs ended up beating the Pistons in 7. I actually got to meet Ron Artest when he played for the Kings when he was doing an autograph signing session at the Best Buy off the Exit you would take to get to Arco Arena
Ironically, the dude in the white hat threw it, not the one he attacked. Arrest was suspended for the year, O’Neal and Jackson was suspended for like 12 games. Go watch the documentary on Netflix on Malice in the Palace. It explains it all.
A week after this, Ron was suspended for the rest of the season. Then he came to Sweetwater Sound in Fort Wayne and did his rap album with me for the next couple months. He was actually a really good dude. Just had a short fuse. lol

I remember watching this live. Pistons were the reigning defending Champs winning in June 2004 but early in the next season they were getting spanked by 15 with under a minute left in the game. That’s why he took such offense to the hard foul that Artest gave at that specific time. The video you have definitely cut out a lot of what happened because Ben Wallace tried to go after Artest a few times. Because they kept holding back Artest, he decided to lay down on the scorers table for a hot minute…that was until the the beer came flying on his chest. The guy who threw the beer was the guy in blue who eventually was grabbing and punching Ron Artest in the back. They left out the two chunky Mexican dudes who were literally on the court taunting Jermaine O’Neal to fight so he decided to blast one of the dudes straight in the face for a first round TKO lol and I believe an assistant coach swung on the other side. Artest was suspended 73 games which was basically the whole season since they had just started the season. Jackson got 30 games and they both were charged with assault but only got probation and had to do community service. All in all, a wild night that is truly the reason why the NBA now is so quick to T guys up for being physical and the style is less defensive.
Poor Reggie watched his last chance at a ring run into the stands with Artest that day. This pacers team was looking like a contender this year, still ended up 6th seed missing 2 key players for like half the season and Artest for the whole thing.
Artest went after the wrong guy, it was the guy in blue who put artest in the headlock that threw the bottle. That guy was innocent and artest guessed wrong
Ron Artest was on the scorers table counting to 10 backwards trying to calm down. Ben Wallace was an afterthought when the guy threw his beer 🍺 and It hit Ron. J O'Neal was there and my Bruh couldn't let him ride alone. Those 3 were run through and called Thugs and all context was lost after the Michigan crowd hit the floor. BEN SAID It was over the foul being too hard seeing they were down at the end of the game.

Pacers were gonna probably win the championship that season.
