CLIP DESCRIPTION:
The President of the United States (Bill Pullman) gives a stirring speech to those going to fight the alien invasion.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
A group of intrepid humans attempts to save the Earth from vicious extraterrestrials in this extremely popular science-fiction adventure. Borrowing liberally from War of the Worlds, Aliens, and every sci-fi invasion film inbetween, director Roland Emmerich and producer and co-writer Dean Devlin present a visually slick, fast-paced adventure filled with expensive special effects and large-scale action sequences. The story begins with the approach of a series of massive spaceships, which many on Earth greet with open arms, looking forward to the first contact with alien life. Unfortunately, these extraterrestrials have not come in peace, and they unleash powerful weapons that destroy most of the world's major cities. Thrown into chaos, the survivors struggle to band together and put up a last-ditch resistance in order to save the human race. As this is a Hollywood film, this effort is led by a group of scrappy Americans, including a computer genius who had foreseen the alien's evil intent (Jeff Goldblum), a hot-shot jet pilot (Will Smith), and the President of the United States (Bill Pullman). While some critics objected to the film's lack of originality and lapses in logic, the combination of grand visual spectacle and crowd-pleasing storytelling proved irresistible to audiences, resulting in an international smash hit.

I'm 13, and I watched this when I was 8 or 9. I remember watching it and feeling so inspired like I could do anything. As soon as I heard it I took index cards from my backpack and a multicolored pen from my room and wrote down the whole speech, word for word. I memorized it and recited it to every grown up I knew, they went bananas for it every time. I still have those flashcards. In fact I came to this video to re-write it so I can use it as a memo to get into the fall play. I wish more kids my age knew about this spectacular movie.

I was so nervous as we lost our first son to a miscarriage the previous year which devastated us. For some reason I put this video on as I was getting ready to go to the hospital and it just seemed so fitting.
To me this finally felt like a moment where I could battle my inner demons and could undo all the hurt and pain I had felt since it happened. It was a chance to finally strike back against them. Almost like the final battle in Independence Day. Then we could finally bring happiness back into our lives once again after what was taken away. I’ve honestly never felt emotion like it before!

Things like this are only cheesy/corny if a movie tells us of their struggles without showing it. He'd be re-elected for life.
Well... if this actually happened they'd probably temporarily suspend the 22nd amendment since most infrastructure and massive amount of the population has been eradicated. They would need continued leadership to rebuild.
If they kept re electing new presidents during this period, all plans would keep going north, then south, then east, and then in to a wild loose cannon.
So while it may not be for life, President whitmore would probably have more than two terms.
Nick Riddle I agree. I started thinking a lot about it when there was talk of a sequel. My opinion, he should have remained president indefinitely until normal life was semi-restored. That or maybe tack whatever time was left onto the end of his presidency to get him to the 10 year limit.
Kevin Pennell Fair points, except the sequel implied that his encounter with the alien in the lab progressively drove him mad. So he probably served as president until his sanity began to degrade, at which point, he quietly retired with his dignity intact.
@@heatchills4093 I'm excluding the sequel. Haven't seen it yet but figure the events consumed him.

This is the speech captain America should've made before fighting Thanos in Endgame
Chris Evans doesn't have it in him to make a speech like this. Hes too much of a pretty boy
Father Leo lol watch the winter Soldier
Disney cut his balls off so they can appease the feminists with their new face, Captain Marvel.
Will you expect thanos to just stand there and wait? Probably no
Father Leo Tf you on about, he makes amazing speeches bro
One of the most powerful speeches in cinema history in my opinion! One of my absolute favorite scenes of the movie.
Watching this on Independence Day..
I'd follow this president to the end of the world
The sad part was how they all turned their backs on him in the 2nd movie. Fucking disgraceful that new generation was. Dude was a real patriot.
I would too
